I assume that this is what the news report was talking about when they mentioned a brush fire, but I was left with the impression that the fire department was called to a brush fire.

JS Online:Industrial blazes doused at two sites
O'Connor said employees of the scrap yard told firefighters they were burning brush just inside the gates, a considerable distance from the actual fire. No one from the business could be reached for comment.

One station said that earlier in the day, there was a brush fire next to the scrap yard down the road. I have also seen a sign in the area that said something to the effect of "no more junk yards" referring, I guess, to the fact that there are two or three junk yards right in that area. (Between Sherman & Teutonia) It is a pretty industrial area, but there are homes just west of there (running west from about 39th or 40th street) and I seems that the people in the area may be fighting against some sort of expansion.

I suspect foul play in the Wednesday fire. I forget which TV station, but they reported that the junk yard owner had to go before the city or something to renew a permit the next day (Thursday).

With the price of gas, why would anyone leave any gas in any tank if they could siphon it out? :)

The explosions you heard were probably the tires and not the gas tanks.
