Lefties have told these folks, and even convinced some of them, to live with the constant noise and shadowy light flicker is to be a good and responsible citizen.  Meanwhile, had Guantanamo detainees been subjected such conditions, it would most certainly be called “torture.”  Too bad Cheney and Rove never seized the opportunity to green up Club Gitmo this way…

    That would drive me insane!!!

  2. Glenn D. Frankovis Says:

I was driving north on I-39 somewhere in north central Illinois about two weeks ago and off to my left was a wind turbine farm of about 60 turbines. The wind out of the west was blowing so hard that a motorcyclist ahead of me was in a hard left lean just to stay balanced, yet only about 20 turbines had their blades turning. The rest were dead still. I don’t claim to know much about these things, but isn’t the point of these wind turbines to generate electric power? And if that’s their purpose, wouldn’t it make sense to have them all operating on such a windy day?

  3. dad29 Says:

umnnhhhh, Glenn…..WTF does common sense have to do with this?

  4. HeatherRadish Says:

If you operate the turbines when the wind is too strong, the blades can break off.

…and now you know why hypocrites Ted Kennedy and his watermelon nephew RFK2 beat down the proposal to put a wind farm off of Cape Cod in visual range of their estates.

  5. Glenn D. Frankovis Says:

dad29, I freely admit that my biggest failing in life has been to give these people the benefit of the doubt where common sense is involved. (That is until I get to know them.)

  6. Patrick Dorwin Says:

That would drive me crazy. Flashing lights and things like that can also have an effect on people prone to seizures, I wonder if anyone has had these problems?

  7. Phel Says:

Patrick, that was my first thought.

Excellent post Roland. Treat people who are trying to kill us better than hard-working, tax-paying contributors in the Communities. More left lunacy.

  9. Albigensian Says:

The power output of a wind turbine is proporational to the cube of the wind speed; thus, an increase from 8mph to 24mph wind results not in a 300% increase in electric output but a 2,700% increase.

A strong, steady wind would seem to be ideal for a wind farm, but, because too much wind can damage a wind turbine, they shut down when it’s too windy.

Most people don’t seem to realize just how unreliable wind power actually is. Because of that cube-power rule, wind turbines don’t produce enough power to be worth the bother with a mild breeze, yet they also shut down when it’s too windy. The end result is, most of the power is input to the grid in short bursts, when a gust gets the turbine operating in its optimal wind-speed range.

The political reality is that the utility regulatory apparat in Wisconsin has been captured by environmental activists. Even the Wisconsin Citizens’ Utility Board– which claims to fight for “reliable and affordable electricity and telephone service on behalf of Wisconsin customers before regulatory agencies” is absolutely opposed to building any more electric generators powered the only two fuels available to produce low-cost, base-load electricity– coal and nuclear.

And so, in addition to high and rising taxes, Wisconsin faces the near-certainty of sharply rising electric rates for the foreseeable future.

Then again, demand for electric power should continue to fall, as ever more businesses leave the state.
