I see McCain is contemplating resigning from the Senate to run Full Time for the Presidency like Dole did in 96.
Will this affect your vote in the primary?
Do you think this will work any better for McCain than it did for Dole?
February 15th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
PCD, good question, but I really don’t think it will make much difference. It will be interesting to observe…
Here’s my question: With all the problems going on in Milwaukee, isn’t it odd that Mayor Barrett’s BIG IDEA is to bring back the circus parade? Does that seem odd to anyone else?
February 15th, 2008 at 12:50 pm
Well…as long as the bookmobile is part of the circus parade…we’ll be good to go.

If Democrats are for affirmative action, shouldn’t they all be voting for Barrack Hussein Obama instead of Hillary Clinton?
If not, isn’t it just another sign of how they are hypocrites?
February 15th, 2008 at 1:21 pm
Stalker,
Hillary being a woman qualifies for PC Affirmative Action. That gambit backs the Democrats into a corner. Who you going to pander to? The Feminists with a candidate who sets feminism back to the 20′s with her crying or Obama?
February 15th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
2, Augustine, when you are an empty suit with no morals, no respect for the people, of course when you hear your aides talk about “bread and circuses for the masses” you come up with such an idea.
February 15th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
Barrett is doing what he can to get seen by the people of Milwaukee as doing something for Milwaukee only because it is an election year for him. After the election, we won’t see him until next election time.
As for the Affirmative Action deal, that is why I would have liked to see Condoleezza Rice run. That would have taken care of both the first black and first woman President at one time.
February 15th, 2008 at 6:18 pm
Rice would have had no chance of winning. You seriously want all the baggage of the Bush administration on the GOP ticket? Plus, she hasn’t exactly distinguished herself as SecState.
February 15th, 2008 at 6:36 pm
More snow, and I’m about ready to move south and west. I’m not sure how smart it was to change jobs from Milwaukee to the Fox Valley, considering the weather we’ve had.
Job is great, better than before. Weather, well, it might be worth taking the Arizona Bar Exam
February 15th, 2008 at 6:45 pm
Not sure why, but I can’t reply to the thread on yesterday’s announcement about the budget shortfall. I blogged about it on my site instead:

Snow? Did somebody say its gonna snow? Say it isn’t so. Somebody pass me the Doans.

Imagine what it would be like without all this global warming!

House Democrats are crafting scaled-down immigration reform legislation despite the political minefields that surround the issue, with Hispanic Members seeking five-year visas for illegal immigrants who pay fines and pass criminal background checks.
Immigration reform had been left for dead after last year’s Senate train wreck, but pressures for at least stopgap immigration legislation have bubbled up within the Democratic Caucus.
It’s unclear if the behind-the-scenes discussions will actually result in a bill coming to the floor, but Democrats say drafts of legislation already have been written and are being vetted behind the scenes.
“There is the formation of a consensus,” said Rep. Joe Baca (D-Calif.), chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, who said he’s seen a draft bill. “We’re looking at some kind of a compromise. It’s still comprehensive in nature but not to the extent we would like.”
February 15th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
Well, it’s not like it’s just the Dems. They’re bad enough, but check out McCain’s buddies behind the scenes http://michellemalkin.com/2008/01/27/in-his-own-words-mccains-hispanic-outreach-director-preaches-open-borders/
Now Sentator McCain, can you say “Viva la Raza?” Sure, I knew you could.
We’re screwed. We might get to pick by whom, and what way, but we’re still screwed.
February 16th, 2008 at 1:19 am
congrats to the cops kicking some butt… 45 people being picked up is real nice…

Can’t have that kind of nonsense here in Wisconsin, can we?
February 16th, 2008 at 8:48 am
Andy, Barrett is running (virtually) unopposed, so I think he may genuinely be seeing the light as to the violence in Milwaukee (I hope).
Peter, I disagree on your thoughts about Dr. Rice. I think she would have been an outstanding nominee. I would still pay money to see her debate Hillary or Obama, she would make them look silly.
BHB, I love stories like that. It is always good to see thugs get what they truly deserve. I just wish he would have grabbed a gin with more than two shots, so he could have finished the job. Sounds like he has another surprise in store for the next thug that makes that mistake.

There is nothing dumber than the idea of bringing back the circus parade. It is a throwback to a bygone era, and not a very good one at that.
For those of you who have been around long enough to remember the reason we canned this thing in the first place, you’ll recall that the last one drew exactly three people, who insisted on putting lawn chairs in front of The Pfister a week in advance to save their spots.
If Mayor Barrett wants to gawk at animals, I say let him go to the zoo. At least there, they try to make it less traumatic for them.
If he’s looking for a reason to lean on people for philanthropic causes, how about some extra money to put a few more of these pothole patrols on the streets before someone loses their life (or an axle) to one of these craters. Give Ernest Borgnine a shovel and tell him to get cracking.

While burglars are ripping-off people on Monroe Street, and mulitple murder cases remain unsolved, a couple of police officers in Madison apparently found time to get acquinted at work.
http://www.madison.com/tct/news/stories/272665
The spouse suspecting his wife of cheating with another police officer begins to investigate, albeit in some instances illegally. Then the faithful spouse gets charged with a felony. About the only thing that can be said about this case is all the participants got screwed — some just more pleasureably that others. As a taxpayer, I have to wonder how all this love on the job affects police officer productivity? Do unsolved crimes increase when relationships nutured at work are fostered?

Bleeding heart update: concern for illegal immigrants committing crimes being identified to the feds by local law enforcement.
http://www.madison.com/wsj/topstories/272816
While there is certainly a place for discourse on the issue of illegal immigration, I would have thought a consensus could be easily reached regarding the two million illegal immigrants in this country who commit crimes, which should result in deportation.
The above link illustrates that I was wrong. The media and Hispanic activists are concerned that illegal immigrants in jail could catch the ire of the feds.
February 16th, 2008 at 11:40 am
ADD – the TWO million that commit crimes? EXCU-U-USE ME, but I believe all of the estimated TWELVE million illegal immigrants are committing a crime simply by being here. Did you mean the two million who commit additional crimes?
February 16th, 2008 at 11:40 am
Thanks for bringing that article to our attention ADD. I see nothing wrong with the following statement in that article and cannot understand why any chief executive of any law enforcement agency would not embrace it:
“We are focusing our efforts on identifying and removing from this country criminal aliens who are serving time in our jails and prisons, ” Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman Gail Montenegro said. “When you ‘re talking about an estimated 12 million illegal aliens, where better to start than those that are incarcerated? “

Dave from Sheboygan, there must be love potion in those squad cars. Last fall I remember a female deputy from Waukesha being taken to the wood shed for having sex on the job with a cop from Chenequa.
Up until now I thought of the Crown Victoria as an old man’s car, one of those vehicles my Uncle Arch drove in retirement.
I agree that these type of Peyton Place environments — no matter what kind of place of employment they occur in — are likely to decrease productivity.
February 16th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
BHB — the articled linked in post 22 correctly reports that being in this country illegally is not a “crime” but a “civil violation.”
To his credit, U.S. Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner attempted to classify illegal entry as a crime. Take a guess on how far Sensenbrenner’s legislation made it with the McCain-Kennedy pro-open borders types in congress.
Glenn is right that the representative from ICE gets it. What disturbs me is how any person would take issue with illegal immigrants who commit crimes — any crimes — being reported to the feds. This includes Chief Flynn, who continues to voice support for the Milwaukee Police Department’s current politically correct policy pertaining to illegal immigrants arrested for crimes.
Furthermore, I read the Journal Sentinel Op Ed today, which is ironic and, at the same time, very telling. The JS editorial board believes that police officers — prior to being convicted of ANYTHING — should forfeit their pay if an officer is charged with a class B misdemeanor and fired by the chief (absent a hearing of any kind or being found guilty of anything). This same JS editorial board, however, supports the MPD’s policy on illegal immigrants, which prohibits MPD personnel from contacting federal officials unless a “serious felony” is committed by an illegal immigrant offender.
The JS editorial board can spin it how they want, but, in my opinion, the people over at JS clearly believe that illegal immigrants have more rights than police officers; thereby, highlighting the inept and immoral beliefs of liberalism.

Mickey: It’s “Mr. Roboto”, right?
Do I win? What did I win? Am I caller 15?
February 16th, 2008 at 5:46 pm
Seth: I guess you could say those Crown Vics are “Love Machines” and they only work for people in blue. A parody of the old Miracles song.
But really, in all fairness to the police in general, the types of trysts described in the link in post 19 (and again below)
http://www.madison.com/tct/news/stories/272665
happened in work places all over this country.
For whatever reason, the Madison Police Department seems to be a real Payton Place. Maybe this type of stuff is just being Ignoblely ignored there, if you get my drift.
February 16th, 2008 at 6:45 pm
And the “Obamination” rolls on in Wisconsin to a packed house at UW-GB.
The hilarious thing is all the lefties in the Press-Gazette comment section are arguing amongst themselves. Too funny!

Hello Bruce, you are the 15th caller!!!

Another illegal immigration story. This one out of Rock County.
http://wkow.madison.com/News/index.php?ID=19054
First, we give the dairy farmer a government subsidy. Then the dairy farmer unlawfully hires illegal immigrants. The taxpayers then subsidize the education of the illegal immigrant’s children. The farmer walks away with a pocket full to cash.
The video from this story shows precisely what is wrong with illegal immigration.

The culture of political correctness has infected another American institution…country music.
One of the hottest country singer’s is 17 year-old Taylor Swift. She won the CMT’s Horizon Award last year. Her CD “Taylor Swift” has sold very well.
The CD’s big hits include “Tim McGraw, “Teardrops on My Guitar,” and “Our Song.”
The latest hit off Swift’s CD, “Picture to Burn”, has created a controversy that has, so far, flown under the mainstream media’s radar screen.
Here are the lyrics of the first verse:
“State of obvious, I didn’t get my perfect fantasy. I realize you love yourself more than you could love me. So go and tell your friends that I’m obsessive and crazy. That’s fine I’ll tell mine you’re GAY.”
The country music powers that be have now edited the word “gay” from the version of the song played on the radio. The words “I’ll say” have been dubbed in.
I see this as a knee jerk reaction for two reasons. First, Swift, who writes many of her own songs, didn’t use a slur, but instead used the PC crowd’s own term to refer to homosexual men. Second, consider the context by which the word is used. It’s something immature teenagers would actually do to retaliate against an ex-boyfriend.
After hearing Gretchen Wilson’s song, “Politically Incorrect” (which stands up for Americans proud of the Bible and the flag), I would never have thought country music would cave into the PC crowd’s litmus test. But, if traditional country music has caved, I think it’s safe to say conservatives have lost the culture war.

Hey Seth: What about that Kellie Pickler tune “Things that never cross a man’s mind“?
I certainly don’t recall that being
censorededited. It’s not exactly a flattering portrait of the average American male.As a sensitive, metrosexual, American male, I would like to register my outrage. I am deeply offended. This “Kellie Pickler” is filled with hatred and must be stopped.
February 18th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
I remember being in Florida in the winter of 79 or 80 and the song Sunshine go away today was on. They changed the lyrics to.
He can’t even run his own life I’ll be (BLANK) if he’ll run mine.
Now it’s not about gratuitious swearing or vulgarity, NOW, it’s about not offending a PROTECTED CLASS.
February 18th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
Bruce…Kellie Pickler is mad at her mother too. Is she smarter than a 5th grader? Probably not.
This past summer Kellie was playing down at the Summerfest grounds with Taylor Swift and Brad Paisley. Swift used the word “gay” in her song there. From what I gathered, no one living in the 3rd Ward complained.
In the song “Picture to Burn,” Swift also uses the word “redneck” several times. I’ll have to get a hold of Larry the Cable Guy and to see if he wants to make a compliant. Maybe the country music PC gurus will edit that term out next.

Could a new video allegation deal a blow — in more ways than one — to the Obama campaign?
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=56626
Is this an Obamanation? What are the chances of Obama will take the $100,000 challenge?
February 19th, 2008 at 9:09 am
Dennis,
I don’t give the Press-Geezer-ette even that much credit. They are just plain stupid in the editorial department.
February 19th, 2008 at 9:11 am
Bruce and Seth,
I saw Pickler on “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader”. She made dumb blondes resentful of how stupid she is.
February 19th, 2008 at 9:13 am
Oh, Dennis, about UW-GB, That place was Madison-lite when I went there. I left after seeing what a real college was like when I went on student exchange to the University of Idaho for my Sophmore year.
GB was so bad that I had trouble transferring my credits from GB to LaCrosse.
