We have people holding a rally for a drunk driver that got smacked up-side the head when he tried to run one of our police officers over with a truck, and the only elected officials we hear from are those SUPPORTING THE DAMN DRUNK!
Well, if our elected “leaders” are too scared to come out of their bunkers and support our coppers before the election, then screw them, I’ll do it myself, and proudly so!

Way to go, Patrick!

Awesome, Totally Awesome!
Thanx Bro! You have always been a huge supporter. You have stood up for the police when others have unfairly lambasted them. You have the respect of many as your blog provides one of the only true forums for unbiased news in the Milwaukee Market.

For those of you who haven’t taken the time to watch Patrick’s brief video on this topic, specifically his observations of his visit to yesterday’s “protest”, you can do so at this link. He did an outstanding job of putting the video together and it’s well worth your time. It’s also interesting to read some of the comments offered in response to the video from folks claiming to be members of the Hmong community who apparently haven’t exactly jumped aboard the Moua / Eisenberg bandwagon.
Also, Peter at Texas Hold ‘Em asks an interesting question with regard to the AP story that went national this morning with its claims of “police brutality” in Milwaukee…
March 30th, 2008 at 8:03 pm
You people don’t understand. It is the RIGHT of drunk Hmongs to drive and try to run over cops. You must be some sort of racists or something.. it’s a “cultural thing”.
While I was a hood bartender I dealt with situations not unlike this, you can’t back down to PC bullsh*t.
He was wrong, should be charged with drunk driving and attempted murder.
End of story. I don’t give a rat’s arse how many Hmong want to march.

Easy Corbin,
You do live in Wisconsin where “You’re Hmong Friends”.

Score another one for the good guys in this Mike Nichols column: http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=733699

Out-friggen-standing Mike Nichols! The man was so drunk that he thought the officer that hit him was white, but it turns out he was black… That says a LOT. Nichols is right, this isn’t about the drunk, it’s about Kevin Her, the executive director of the Shee Yee Community of Milwaukee!
On a side note, I like Nichols’ cracks about Alan Eisenberg, and his red fedora, but even before he got there, Bruce was sending me text message jokes about his red fedora, complete with feather!
Now let’s see of any elected officials in this city have the balls to stand up for what’s right!
March 31st, 2008 at 8:16 am
On the day Flynn stands up for his officer Hegerty sues the city. What a contrast in professionalism.
Nichols got it right. What street cops want is a chief to back them up if the officers follow the policy and procedure manual. When officers follow the P & P they should be backed-up 100%.
A couple years back I remember an incident where an officer in some jurisdiction up north tasered a kid in a high school. This wasn’t some typical 15 year-old. This kid was over 6 feet tall. Instead of just backing-up his officer, the chief ran to state investigators to provide himself with political cover.
Police chiefs need to grow some gonads and back-up their cops when they do the right thing. From his years of experience and political savvy, Flynn has figure this out and will tell activists to politely pound sand when need be.

Glenn, I just heard you on Charlie Sykes. Good work. I liked the bit about Mary Hoerig being on vacation with Nan “the man” Hegarty. Business as usual I guess.
March 31st, 2008 at 10:02 am
Bludhoudini, Flynn isn’t a wimp. He’s been around the block. He was Chief in Arlington, Va at one time. He’s seen the “Community” politics a time or 2.
I like the sound of Nanette Rodham Hoerig Hegarty.

Mickey, it’s obviously a hot-button issue with me that I’ve been trying hard to bury since she made her getaway, I mean “retired”. Now she shamelessly rears her ugly head once more to grab the loot she left behind. This is Hegerty’s “We flew in under sniper fire and had to make a corkscrew landing” moment, and it’s going to have the same devastating effect for her but she’ll press on because she’s the Milwaukee area Hillary.

She’s got about as much integrity as Sue and Lev Baldwin.

Hey beertender! I’ll have a Koua Moua shaken and beaten, not stirred.
March 31st, 2008 at 5:09 pm
Does that come with one of those pretty umbrellas?
March 31st, 2008 at 6:01 pm
Thanks for doing this Patrick. Too often an essential and distinguished profession is brow beaten by groups like this. Its a shame to see some elected officials backing the wrong side of this one and others remaining silent.
Even though I reside in ‘Tosa I am going to write Mayor Barrett and my County Supervisor, whoever wins that race tomorrow, and ask them to respond to back the MPD.

Good going Patrick

Anybody hear whether or not any of our aldermen spoke out publicly today in support of Flynn? Yesterday in an e-mail I was led by one of them to believe they were going to hold a press conference today for that purpose.
March 31st, 2008 at 7:31 pm
No Glenn, no umbrella on a swizzle stick. This drink is most commonly served with a bright red fedora on a dip stick.
March 31st, 2008 at 7:51 pm
Glenn…on Fox6 they had a story with some alderman (Donovan was one of them…I don’t recall the rest) that were supporting the Police/Chief. Donovan did say that Eisenberg’s record speaks for itself.
March 31st, 2008 at 8:39 pm
I think Eisenberg’s hat is more sane than Eisenberg. Five minutes with him and you have proof that sniffing glue has consequences.
March 31st, 2008 at 8:44 pm
Good ‘ol Bob Donovan, the man we should be voting for tomorrow in the Mayoral election!
It’s a shame that our officers can’t get any support, I expect that as soon as the polls close tomorrow, we will FINALLY learn what some of our elected officials think, but before the election, they don’t have the balls to talk about it, and that is sad. Leaders are supposed to lead…
March 31st, 2008 at 9:00 pm
My alderman, Joe Dudzik, e-mailed me yesterday and told me he was talking with Bob Donovan about holding a press conference in support of Chief Flynn today, so I suspect Joe was with Bob and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if Jim Bohl was with them too. These three aldermen are law and order guys who will support the cops against unfair criticism.
March 31st, 2008 at 9:15 pm
Yes….Jim Bohl was another one. I didn’t recognize the third…so probably Joe Dudzik.
March 31st, 2008 at 9:19 pm
Patrick and Glenn, I think you both know that Bob is a personal friend of mine. Bruce certainly knows. I attended a fund raiser for Bob a month ago and actually wrote a check to him. His wife Kathy is great, and Bob is a throwback. He’s like Jim Gantner in a A-Rod world. I’m proud to be his friend, and further, I’m proud of him because he is GENUINE. He isn’t phony in any way. If he ran for Mayor, I’d help him any way I could. I’m going to see him Thursday, and I have a “Fightin’Bob” award to give him. I told his wife and she laughed.

I’m sending a letter expressing my support and appreciation to Flynn tomorrow morning and urge the rest of you to do likewise. I know from personal experience how much that means to receive letters of support at times like this. There are also a couple letters of appreciation and support posted in tomorrow morning’s Journal Sentinel editorial section. That’s a good thing, and I can tell you that the cops appreciate that kind of public support too.
March 31st, 2008 at 9:34 pm
Yes, a letter is a great idea, I asked Annie Schwartz to pass along our thanks, but I’ll be firing off a letter to the chief too.
In case anyone is interested:
Chief Edward Flynn
749 West State Street

Patrick, I told Annie….. Anne E.
that I was a frequent blogger at your site.
She spoke nicely about you.

Once the group of elected officials comes out in favor of the chief, I will give them credit. I just ripped them a new bodily orifice for being yellow-bellied cowards and heading for the tall grass.
Why did it take days to figure out what the right thing was? This should have been a gut instinct.
Can someone YouTube the Fox6 video?
April 1st, 2008 at 9:13 pm
The paper has come down on the side of police.
Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn was not commenting on residents’ constitutional right to protest. He likely was exasperated — and for good reason.
