As the Conservative and Republican Americans do the happy dance after getting confirmation that John McCain has named Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his Vice President nominee, Barack Obama and his supporters will be trying to find something to smear her with.

Palin is a Conservatives Conservative, mother of 5, including a son in the Army and another that she knowingly gave birth to with Downs Syndrome, proving her strong pro life beliefs.

Palin has cleaned up the Alaska political machine, taking down republicans along the way, showing her strength of character, a true maverick willing to take on her own party hacks when they needed it.

This is such a home run. There were questions about the timing of this, Conservatives like Mark Belling feared that this announcement would be totally overshadowed by last night’s Obama speech, but I believe that this choice is a huge coup for McCain.

It is going to be interesting to watch the attacks on Palin, we know they are coming, and we know they will be vicious… Bring it on!

  1. Patrick Says:

You can read the official campaign press release here:

John McCain Selects Alaska Governor Sarah Palin As Vice Presidential Running Mate

ARLINGTON, VA — U.S. Senator John McCain today announced that he has selected Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to be his running mate and to serve as his vice president.

Governor Palin is a tough executive who has demonstrated during her time in office that she is ready to be president. She has brought Republicans and Democrats together within her Administration and has a record of delivering on the change and reform that we need in Washington.

Governor Palin has challenged the influence of the big oil companies while fighting for the development of new energy resources. She leads a state that matters to every one of us — Alaska has significant energy resources and she has been a leader in the fight to make America energy independent.

In Alaska, Governor Palin challenged a corrupt system and passed a landmark ethics reform bill. She has actually used her veto and cut budgetary spending. She put a stop to the “bridge to nowhere” that would have cost taxpayers $400 million dollars.

As the head of Alaska’s National Guard and as the mother of a soldier herself, Governor Palin understands what it takes to lead our nation and she understands the importance of supporting our troops.

Governor Palin has the record of reform and bipartisanship that others can only speak of. Her experience in shaking up the status quo is exactly what is needed in Washington today.

  2. Glenn D. Frankovis Says:

The Dem attack dogs are already shamelessly smearing her. Here’s a good one for all the Dem fanatics: CNBC has a female Dem strategist debating a conservative male talk radio guy. The conservative guy is making alot of substantive arguments in favor of Palin and citing specific examples of what she has done before and during her term as Governor of Alaska and what she brings to the ticket and, more importantly, to the country. The female Dem strategist just talks louder and louder and says nothing of any substance. Typical for the power at any price Dems.

What I find really revealing is that in about 1 hour more substance has been reported about Palin’s accomplishments and qualifications than any Obama supporter here or on any news program has been able to report on Obama’s accomplishments or qualifications. Let the hypocrisy begin Dems.

  3. Andy Says:

This IS the main thing people are talking about in my office today.

  4. Bruce Says:

Palin has a son in the military, a special needs infant, finished second in the “Miss Alaska” pageant in 1984, is a card-carrying member of the NRA, and enjoys snowmobiling, hunting, and ice-fishing. Her husband is a unionized oil-field worker who part-times in the commercial fishing business.

They were high-school sweethearts, and they’ve been married for twenty years. She supports drilling in ANWR, she’s pro-life, and she’s a devout Christian.

In addition, she owns her own float plane.

It’s as though they took everything that progressives can’t freaking stand and wrapped them up into one remarkably photogenic package. This is absolutely a fantastic choice.

I can’t ignore the contrast, the Dems have their own Messiah running against a ticket which now happens to include their anti-Christ.

  5. Glenn D. Frankovis Says:

Sarah Palin’s acceptance speech was reminiscent of a Vince Lombardi speech. She and McCain are going to crush Obama and Biden and bring some real change and integrity to Washington, D.C. And she’ll be around to carry the torch after McCain too.

  6. Jason Says:

McCain’s campaign just hit a home run! I was very apathetic of this election and now I am ready to work to get our first woman VP!!!

  7. Jaeson Says:

Don’t be too sure Glenn, America is filled to the brim with folks wanting to vote for Obama’s Monty Hall vision of America where government provides their every want and need, and doles out fabulous door prizes.

    People just want free stuff.

  8. FromTheHip Says:

This is a bold move by the McCain campaign that definitely puts him back in the game. What’s that sucking sound I hear over at the Democratic Convention? Oh yeah, it’s all the women voters disenfranchised with their party nominee being siphoned away by this surprise VP choice. Bet Obama is kicking himself now for not picking Hillary for VP.

  9. Jacob Says:

    MILF

  10. Patrick Says:

How long before Biden “gets sick” and can’t continue, opening the door for Hillary? Would she take it and play 2nd fiddle to Obama for maybe 8 years, or quietly let him lose and be there to save the party in 2012?

  11. Phil Says:

    McCain / MILF 08

Then we will get in 2012

    MILF versus Sea Hag (Clinton)

  12. Mr. Pelican Pants Says:

As liberals will now smear Gov. Palin, their true colors will shine through. They say they want more women in positions of power, but obviously only if they are liberal women.

    Palin will eat Biden’s lunch.

  13. Roland Melnick Says:

I admit that I am still reading up on Gov. Palin, but what I’ve read/seen/heard so far tells me that she IS the reform wing of the Republican party. I listened to the same segment of Mark Belling’s show that Patrick referenced above, and I am glad Belling was wrong about it being Pawlenty. Now is not the time for McCain to play it safe. This election was the Dems’ to lose from early on…and doing anything that looked like the same-ole…same-ole thing was not going to cut it.

This morning before the announcement, I watched the hacks on MSNBC downplay the possibility it would be Palin. Saying she is a nobody and blah, blah, blah. Later, the “oh sh!t” look on Andrea Mitchell’s face punctuated her verbal admission that Palin gave a good acceptance speech.

I am enjoying the liberal hens clucking their spiteful little jabs at Gov. Palin. So far, I’ve seen:

    * A whole bunch of jackasses over at Zsa Zsa Gabor’s website (Huffingtonpost.com) criticize McCain for putting an inexperienced candidate for VP a “heartbeat away from the Presidency.” Uh…hello, how is that worse than putting inexperience at the helm right away? What utter morons.
    (Citation:

Then there’s illusory tenant, who posted a story about Gov. Palin authorizing a pipeline deal with TransCanada Corporation…you know, because doing business with those Canadians is a bad thing.
    http://illusorytenant.blogspot.com/2008/08/canadian-welders-thank-sarah-palin.html

OK…I’m not really taking I.T. seriously. But it is interesting to peruse all the venomous comments on the liberal blogosphere calling Palin inexperienced, a beauty queen, a trophy veep, fresh debate meat for Biden, being “used” or “exploited” by McCain, etc, etc…along with all these assumptions that she is a pushover because she-is-a-she. After the feminist’s deafening silence in the wake of Slick Willie’s abuses, I suspected their whole movement was a hollow one. Seeing the Left’s reaction to Palin-for-VP just confirmed it.

    PS:
Patrick…an alternate headline for this thread could’ve been “Thunder…Consider Thyself Stolen.” :)

  14. meepos Says:

These comments are some of the funniest things I’ve read all week!

A “home run?” Really? A home run? Are you kidding me? A governor with less than two full years of experience from a state with one of the smallest populations in the union. And that’s a home run? I wouldn’t even call it a bunt. I don’t know if you guys are familiar with how baseball is played, but this is certainly not a home run.

Not for the Neo Con Republicans, anyway. The McCain camp did the Dems a HUGE favor by nullifying the “experience” arguement and giving us a pushover for the VP debate.

And this pick has got to go down and one of the tackiest in U.S. political history. The Republicans picking a woman for this election smacks of pandering for votes, desperation and panic. Any other election year would’ve been fine. But this year it just comes off as phony.

Pat yourselves on the back, you misinformed sheep! You’ve just handed the Dems eight solid years in the White House.

  15. meepos Says:

“OK…I’m not really taking I.T. seriously. A nobody from a state that America ignores for all else besides oil, does not steal thunder from anybody. Besides, why would you want to draw attention to such a poor decision?

And nobody’s discrediting her for being a “her.” We’re discrediting her because she has so little to her political credit. She was the mayor of Wassalia(sp?) Big deal.

And who are the Republicans going to blame for the loss? You guessed it, Palin; the goat for a failed presidential ticket. Palin, you’re fifteen minutes are almost up.

  16. Glenn D. Frankovis Says:

Like Delaware is some kind of huge metropolis. As for experience, maybe you can tell us what experience your candidate for President brings to the table. He certainly doesn’t want to talk about it.

  17. Jaeson Says:

A “home run?” Really? A home run? Are you kidding me?

Well, she does have an 80% approval rate.

    http://www.haysresearch.com/oc072508.htm

A governor with less than two full years of experience from a state with one of the smallest populations in the union. And that’s a home run?

Sure, but unlike the unexperienced Obama, she’s not the Presidential candidate, she’s the VP candidate. It’s far more important for the Presidential candidate to have experience.

The McCain camp did the Dems a HUGE favor by nullifying the “experience” arguement and giving us a pushover for the VP debate.

Nah. Again, there’s a difference bewtween the offices of the President and the Vice President. You may want to look that up.

And this pick has got to go down and one of the tackiest in U.S. political history. The Republicans picking a woman for this election smacks of pandering for votes, desperation and panic. Any other election year would’ve been fine. But this year it just comes off as phony.

So are you saying that conservative women are unfit for positions of power? That sounds like a rather sexist remark to me.

A nobody from a state that America ignores for all else besides oil, does not steal thunder from anybody.

For not stealing any thunder, you’ve sure written quite a bit about it.

We’re discrediting her because she has so little to her political credit.

    List Obama’s accomplishments.

Sounds to me like this has really struck a nervous cord in you. Perhaps you’re afraid that this will entice the disenfranchised Hillary supporters? Hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

  18. Jaeson Says:

The thought just struck me, just think about all the hit pieces MSNBC and other networks had produced and in the can ready to air on all the other Vice Presidential hopefuls.

This announcement must have the media scurrying around to quickly come up with something. Hilarious.

  19. Roland Melnick Says:

“A nobody from a state that America ignores”

People said the same thing about Bill Clinton.

meepos, I think people like you discredit her for being a her because you make the assumption that Biden will roll over her in the debates. Aside from your own prejudices, what could you possibly base that opinion on?

  20. Roland Melnick Says:

@Jaeson…I agree…the McCain camp deserves credit for playing it so close to the vest.

  21. Roland Melnick Says:

    Interesting info on Gov. Palin:

  22. meepos Says:

“Sure, but unlike the unexperienced Obama, she’s not the Presidential candidate, she’s the VP candidate. It’s far more important for the Presidential candidate to have experience.”

She’ll be a heartbeat away from the presidency. And that’s the weakened heartbeat of a 72 year old man who’s battle cancer four seperate times. To put such an IN(not un)experienced politician in that position shows great irresponsibility on behalf of McCain and the Republicans.

“So are you saying that conservative women are unfit for positions of power? That sounds like a rather sexist remark to me.”

Nice retort, bub. That’s not what I’m saying. But your response will be that of the Republicans. “You won’t vote for a woman? You must be “sexist.” The McCain camp CLEARLY based their gimmicky decision on gender. This to counter the diversity already established by the Democrats. In any other election year, as I stated, the Republican choice would’ve had some merit. Palin wasn’t even the most qualified woman on McCain’s short list. Kay Bailey Hutchison is far more experienced, had far more exposure as a Senator from Texas and has the military experience the Republicans drool over.

“People said the same thing about Bill Clinton.

meepos, I think people like you discredit her for being a her because you make the assumption that Biden will roll over her in the debates. Aside from your own prejudices, what could you possibly base that opinion on?”

By the time Bill Clinton was elected Pres. he had already established himself as a major player for the Democrats. He was a WELL KNOWN governor, even delivering a (now infamous) address at the DNC in 1988. Did you not read my post? I’m discrediting her for her lack of credibility. There’s no prejudice about it. Were you criticizing Obama because he’s black?

Don’t pull the prejudice card out so willingly, boys. It’ll will bite you in the rear before you know it.

  23. meepos Says:

    “List Obama’s accomplishments.

    Among the many:

    Sponsoring 152 bills and resolutions
    Cosponsoring 400+ more
    Lugar-Obama Bill
    Coburn-Obama Transparency Act
His ethics/lobbying reform bill (still in the process of being ratified)
    the Iraq War De-Escalation Act

He is on the senate committees for foreign relations; homeland security; veterans affairs; health, education, labor and pensions.

    Want more proof?

  24. Mr. Pelican Pants Says:

Obama doesn’t have enough experience to run a 5,000 person town in Alaska.

  25. anonymousinsider Says:

I don’t need to find any information to smear her. Her policy positions and overwhelming social conservatism speak for themselves.

And, since my fiance was a previously undecided voter and McCain’s choice sent him running over to Obama, I suspect that people doing their own research may reach the same conclusion.

I understand that this is a conservative board and I respect all who post here, but remember that the vast majority of Americans are neither left nor right, but moderate. McCain’s selection of Palin does little to drive independent voters toward his campaign.

  26. firelawyer Says:

I won’t belabor this with a lot of details. I’ll just say — from the bottom of my Democratic heart — thank you for picking Gov Palin…

  27. Mr. Pelican Pants Says:

Me thinks the liberals doth protest too much, which means the GOP have clearly hit a nerve.

  28. Ron Says:

I have a tingle running up my leg.

  29. Jaeson Says:

She’ll be a heartbeat away from the presidency.

Sure, but that’s better than actually being in the Presidency.

To put such an IN(not un)experienced politician in that position shows great irresponsibility on behalf of McCain and the Republicans.

Maybe so, but it doesn’t show nearly the level of irresponsibility on behalf of the DNC to put Obama in the primary position.

You’re so irritated by this that you’re nitpicking on typos. LOL!

So are you saying that choosing a female running mate is unacceptable?

Why would this choice not have merit only in this year?

But your response will be that of the Republicans. “You won’t vote for a woman? You must be “sexist.”

Please explain how this is different from, “You won’t vote for Obama, because he’s black.”

“Me thinks the liberals doth protest too much”

Exactly. They wanted Obama to have an easy ride, and now that may not happen. Tee hee!

    O.k.

    Some of Sarah Palin’s accomplishments:

Palin holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Idaho and minored in political science.

Palin served two terms on the Wasilla City Council from 1992 to 1996.

Palin followed through on her campaign promises to reduce her own salary, and to reduce property taxes by 60%.

Palin was also elected president of the Alaska Conference of Mayors.

Governor Murkowski appointed Palin Ethics Commissioner of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, where she served from 2003 to 2004 until resigning in protest over what she called the “lack of ethics” of fellow Alaskan Republican leaders, who ignored her whistleblowing complaints of legal violations and conflicts of interest.

She exposed the state Republican Party’s chairman, Randy Ruedrich, one of her fellow Oil & Gas commissioners, who was accused of doing work for the party on public time, and supplying a lobbyist with a sensitive e-mail. Palin filed formal complaints against both Ruedrich and former Alaska Attorney General Gregg Renkes, who both resigned; Ruedrich paid a record $12,000 fine.

Running on a clean-government campaign in 2006, Palin upset then-Governor Murkowski in the Republican gubernatorial primary, she won the general election in November, defeating former Governor Tony Knowles.

Palin became the first woman to be Alaska’s governor, and at 42, the youngest in Alaskan history.

She successfully pushed for an ethics bill, and also shelved pork-barrel projects supported by fellow Republicans.

She currently has an approval rating of 80%.

Palin has strongly promoted oil resource development in Alaska, but also helped pass a tax increase on oil company profits.

In March 2007, Palin presented the Alaska Gasline Inducement Act (AGIA) as the new legal vehicle for building a natural gas pipeline from the state’s North Slope and signed it into law in June.

In the first days of her administration, Palin followed through on a campaign promise to sell the Westwind II jet purchased (on a state government credit account) by the Murkowski administration. The state placed the jet for sale on eBay three times. In August 2007, the jet was sold for $2.1 million.

    Want more proof?

    You forgot voting “present.”

  31. Jaeson Says:

    meepos,

If you think this choice is a joke, that’s fine.

But if that’s the case, I don’t understand why you’d be so irritated with it.

You should be laughing as much as the Republicans did when Obama chose Biden.

  32. Hello Says:

    Jaeson,

GREAT point. I also would like to hear which who McCain should have picked!

  33. 3rd way Says:

And who are the Republicans going to blame for the loss? You guessed it, Palin; the goat for a failed presidential ticket.

That is an interesting observation. Palin is as green a rookie on the national stage as you can get. She is going to make some rookie mistakes. Tying your young political career to the sinking ship of an out of touch elderly centrist might be the biggest rookie mistake you can make.

It will be too bad if she is blamed for McCain’s loss. She offers the type of reform the GOP desperately needs.

  34. big_hairy_bubba Says:

A wise choice here, designed to appeal to disillusioned Hillary supporters as well as true conservatives. With a better than average chance of becoming president, or at least acting president, for a time, it will be interesting to see if McCain tweaks his “not ready to lead” pitch.

It will also be interesting to see if Oprah squirms now.

Ole Bubba may have to reconsider voting for Bush Lite now.

  35. John Says:

Gotta love Obambots. No matter what rock they crawl out from (I’m assuming Meepos crawled out of a sewer in a McGee district), they’ll sling mud and slander for anyone who dares to RWR — Run While Republican.

  36. Glenn D. Frankovis Says:

There you go BHB. I knew I could count on you.

  37. Murphee Says:

Meepos, what about the Obama-Rezko housing act. Or, as it’s referred to in Chicago, the buy a house from the crook and get the lot for free amendment.

Obama “sponsored” 400 bills. How many did HE author? Answer: none.

How much foreign policy experience does Obama have? Ah,none, unless you include his two years as an absentee senator on some committee, where he missed most of the meetings. He claims McCain’s military service means little, but hung out at an Ivy League law school and never donned a military uniform.

The left dislikes Palin because she is everything Joe Biden isn’t. She is as socially conservative as it gets. Maybe Palin can teach Obama and Biden how to hold a rifle.

  38. Roland Melnick Says:

It is a given that meepos and the rest would criticize whomever McCain picked. In fact many presumed Pawlenty was in and went on to do some pre-emptive bloviating about what a poor pick he would be…watching their scrambling to change gears upon learning they were wrong has been fun.

meepos…how does Palin lack credibility? Are you saying she is a fake? A liar? You presume Biden will crush her in the debates. We’ll see; Biden has shown a tendency to stick his foot in his mouth. If you say she is inexperienced compared to Biden, fine, I’ll give you that one, since it’s like comparing Obama to McCain.

Don’t pull the prejudice card out so willingly, boys. It’ll will bite you in the rear before you know it.
Granted…no one plays racial/gender/sexual preference politics better than you libs. I didn’t say you were prejudiced against her as a woman, I DID challenge you to back up you claim. If you can’t back it up, then you are presuming something about her…also known as having a prejudice. Besides, the only thing I’ve been called is a blasphemer for criticizing the Messiah!

    PS:
Keep using the experience argument…it’ll take you one step forward and two back.

  39. Martin Says:

Amazing how insignificant Alaska is until you want to drill for Oil there. Sorry to ruin the myth that Republicans or for that matter Conservatives don’t like women in positions of power meeps.

Just like the Ayers/Obammer contection, Libs really squeal when you hit a nerve!

  40. Gracelynn Says:

Go McCain /Palin. John McCain picked a VP I can respect and identfy with. Well John McCain picked A Wasington outsider,A consertative, A reformer , A female Scott Walker. Awesome Go Maverick.

  41. Martin Says:

Anon, I disagree that most Americans are centrist. I think at least 60% are more Conservative leaning to Conservative.

About the only time I see a “centrist” is a Democrat that is up for election!

  42. Patrick Says:

Note to Meepos, your reaction is exactly what makes so many Conservatives happy. This decision was not for you, it was for us. If it made you happy, it would be proof that it was the wrong pick.

I have been giddy all day, and I know that I’m not the only one.

Didn’t I hear something about someone making a speech last night? Maybe I was mistaken.

  43. John Says:

And keep pissing on the fact that Alaska is a small state. There’s several other smaller states in this Union — not just New York, California, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

  44. Patrick Says:

Oh, and with all of the excitement, I forgot to say Happy Birthday Senator McCain… Your next birthday will be in the White House!

  45. Patrick Says:

There is a lot of talk of the GOP pushing the convention back a week so they are not running while a hurricane bears down on the gulf coast, this would put the last day of the convention on Sept. 11th, and Governor Palin’s son also leaves for Iraq that same week.. Interesting timing. There is no worry about scheduling conflicts with the facility, the GOP has reserved the building until mid-September, but it would raise havoc with travel plans for the delegates… flights, hotels, time off work etc.

  46. Roland Melnick Says:

Next thing ya know…libs will be criticizing McCain for picking a VP from a State that brings in only 3 electoral college votes.

You get my last email, Patrick?

  47. HeatherRadish Says:

Gustav will probably mess up quite a few delegates’ travel plans all on his own; wind and rain can get pretty far inland. And, fairly or not, if they don’t delay the media will scream nonstop about Bush and McCain “partying with their cronies” while NOLA floods again. :\

  48. Tom Hacker Says:

The Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006 (S. 2590)[1] is an Act of Congress that requires the full disclosure of all entities or organizations receiving federal funds beginning in fiscal year (FY) 2007 on a website maintained by the Office of Management and Budget. This bill was introduced by Senator Tom Coburn, for himself and Senators Barack Obama, Tom Carper and John McCain on April 6, 2006 [2] and passed unanimously in the Senate on September 7, 2006 and was passed in the House on September 13, 2006. The bill was signed into law by President George W. Bush on September 26, 2006.[3] In August 2006, there was a “secret hold” on the legislation placed by Senators Ted Stevens[4] and Robert Byrd.[5] The Congressional Budget Office estimates S. 2590 will cost $15 million over its authorized time period of 2007–2011.[6] The website USAspending.gov opened in December 2007 as a result of the act.

  49. Tom Hacker Says:

I’ll add one more of Obamas bills. If you noticed in the last post Senator McCain was also one of those sponsoring this bill.

The Lugar-Obama Act (S. 2566) passed out of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee last Tuesday, May 23rd, and will proceed to the Senate floor. The bill, sponsored by Senators Richard Lugar (R-IN) and Barack Obama (D-IL) and co-sponsored by a bi-partisan group of 17 other senators, would provide $25 million in funding to prevent the proliferation of conventional weapons and $50 million to help US allies detect and interdict weapons and materials of mass destruction.

The bill has been modeled after the Nunn-Lugar Act of 1991, which established the Cooperative Threat Reduction Program. Although the Nunn-Lugar Act sought to secure nuclear weapons, the Lugar-Obama Act would expand the concept to include securing conventional weapons stockpiles. Of particular concern is the proliferation of shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles (Man-Portable Air-Defense Systems, or MANPADS) which could pose a serious threat to commercial airliners, military installations, and government facilities.

I guess this bill will stop the bad guys from mesing with us.

  50. sanford sklansky Says:

I am not sure how Palin helps McCain at all. It is kind of a stretch to choose some one with absolutely no experience with foreign policy. She backed Ted Stevens bridge to now where although she claims not to. It is interesting that he husband sits in all kind of governmental meetings when he has no place there. While I can’t find it at the moment, she tried to claim executive privilege for not releasing some e-mails, even though here husband was cc’d on those e-mails. He does not work at all for the government. Also interesting that after one day her son reedited her Wickiepedia entry. I can’t find it right now, but a smart computer person can find the original entery and compare it to the new one.

Her son did that by the way.

And lastly here is how she cost Wasilia a bunch of money.

Palin as VP is a brilliant move in that energizes the base. There are only so many undecided and independent votes up for grabs and they won’t carry an election if your base is AWOL.

A relative, retired NAVY in Minot, ND called today. He NEVER calls, but he couldn’t contain his enthusiam! Another friend kept e-mailing that she was in tears she was so happy and excited, and she was receiving similar e-mails from others. A volunteer from previous elections called wanting to know who he can contact to start doing doors. These are people that are now committed to volunteer – heavily and enthusiastically – that probably wouldn’t have before – and we all know that this type of enthusiasm is extremely contagious!

I predict attacks on Palin will be ineffective because Palin has done for the Republican base what Obama has done for the Democrat base, well with the exception of the PUMAs. I agree, Patrick, bring on the attacks.

BTW, very nice remodeling job of your site.

  52. Ron Says:

If Obama wins it’s for 8 years and then it will be time for “change”. If McCain wins Hillary has shot at 2012 since McCain is one term. That’s why Hillary-Dems will vote for McCailin, not because of the female issue.

P.S. The anti-spam word was ‘BROAD’

  53. sanford sklansky Says:

While she might have resigned over some ethics thing about whistle blowers, she did back Ted Stevens over the bridge to no where. She later denied that but it is on the record.

How ethical is it to reedit your wickepedian entry. She didn’t do it herself but it was traced to her son. This is against Wickepedia guidelines for family memebers to do such a thing.

I am sure most of you commenting here hate Daily Kos. But here is a piece about it. Follow the links. In the comment section there is a link that shows the prior entry and the reedited entry.

    http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/8/29/21034/4861/159/579549

She also cost her city almost two million dollars over a land deal to build an ice rink. The ruling may be appealed.

    http://dwb.adn.com/news/alaska/matsu/story/9055227p-8971221c.html

And as you know she is under investigation for trying to get her former brother in law fired. Allegedly there was some child abuse and if that is true I couldn’t blame her, but it seems there are other ways to go in the case.

She has tried to use executive privleges to keep some emails made public. I don’t have the link to that handy. But the thing of it her husband was cc’d on those emails. Her husband is not a government employee. He also sits in on many meetings which is certainly not his job.

And finally this is some what like the woman who called Hillary a bitch.

    http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/8/30/82113/4808/746/579971

Very nice laughing about a radio host attacking a cancer survivor and a republican to boot.

  54. John Says:

Hillary is a bitch. What’s your point?

Maybe we should pull the Daily Kos comments about the late Tony Snow and see who mocks who about cancer?

  55. Jaeson Says:

I am not sure how Palin helps McCain at all. It is kind of a stretch to choose some one with absolutely no experience with foreign policy.

If experience is of prime importance for the Number 2 position, then explain why experience is of no importance for the Number 1 position.

  56. Roland Melnick Says:

This whole “experience” issue is going to be a drumbeat mantra the Left will continue with. I call it a “mantra” because it is not a reasoned argument, but another one of their Jedi mind tricks in which they will try to repeat something often enough until people believe it or move on.

Biden himself is on record saying Obama is not ready to lead for Christ sake! His own party acknowledges an experience vacuum, which is why the long, long time Senator, Joe Biden was brought onto the ticket.

The Libtard Echo Chamber can prattle on about Palin’s lack of experience, but she wasn’t called on for her experience. McCain has more than necessary. Nor was she brought on with the assumption that all Clinton voters will stupidly see a female and automatically vote for her. I think Ron made an excellent point:
If Obama wins it’s for 8 years and then it will be time for “change”. If McCain wins Hillary has shot at 2012 since McCain is one term. That’s why Hillary-Dems will vote for McCain, not because of the female issue. Another reason, if not the prime reason, Obamanauts are worried.

But why should we discount all the Feminist arguments we’ve heard over the years? A female brings a different perspective; a new way of thinking and dealing with issues. Words that hold just as true, if not more so, when referring to a female Vice Presidential nominee.

Feminists sold their souls with their silence over Slick Willie’s affront to women. They continually treat women like Condoleeza Rice like outcasts. Why should we treat Feminism like it is its own movement? If you are going to pick and choose which women you champion, you are more like a run-of-the-mill Democrat.

    BREAK THE GLASS CEILING !!!
WOW … What a great pick!!! America should elect
McCain & Palin for the Whitehouse in November,
for a return to wholesome American values.
An experienced Governor for V.P. vs. a
community organizer for President … I pick Palin.
No Wright, no Farrakahn, no Ayers, no Rezko,
    no mean Michelle, NOBAMA

  58. murphee Says:

Sanford, there are 4 million reasons how Sarah Palin has helped McCain. After announcing Palin’s selection, the McCain camp pulled in a record $4 million in ONE day. It’s called rallying the conservative base. Believe me, Sanford, if Palin was such a poor selection, the lefties wouldn’t be making such a stink over her selection. Besides, unlike Obama, Palin has actually put together two budgets.

  59. Roland Melnick Says:

While she might have resigned over some ethics thing about whistle blowers…

    Palin was the whistle blower.

How ethical is it to reedit your wickepedian entry. She didn’t do it herself but it was traced to her son. This is against Wickepedia guidelines for family memebers to do such a thing.

Violating Wikipedia posting rules disqualifies you from public office? LOL…

I am sure most of you commenting here hate Daily Kos.

“Hate” is strong language, but you won’t earn any credibility here by citing them as a reliable source…they are as biased as they come.

And as you know she is under investigation for trying to get her former brother in law fired.

One piece of advice on this point, Sanford. You may want to wait until that “investigation” plays out, assuming it’s still going on. Because if she did try to get that guy fired because he is a child abuser, she’ll look like a hero and y’all will look pretty stupid for trying to scandalize her actions…but if you want to go out on a limb, be my guest.

As for your refence to the sports complex item…It’s a dispute, and ultimately looks like the city will pay for the land and the costs of the legal fight. What was her precise role here, and what did she do wrong?

  60. Jaeson Says:

This whole “experience” issue is going to be a drumbeat mantra the Left will continue with.

Only for a time until they realize that hammering Palin on inexperience only exposes the fact that the left’s Number 1 has less experience than the right’s Number 2.

Palin has used the veto pen, commanded the National Guard, rawn up budgets, in fact, she’s the only one on either ticket that has any kind of executive experience at all. It trivializes resume items such as “community organizer.”

When Hillary was elected as a Sentor from New York, the only experience she had was nosing around the White House.

  61. Ron Says:

Thanks, Roland. btw, I am trying to coin the term ‘McCailin’ :)

Operation Chaos + PUMA = NObama

So are you saying that we should also be looking into any potential wrongdoings on the part of Joe Biden’s children?

She also cost her city almost two million dollars over a land deal to build an ice rink. The ruling may be appealed.

This may be true. But at least she isn’t costing her consituency millions more with increased vehicle registration fees, increased driver’s license fees, increased property taxes, an unnecessary wheel tax, and on and on and on. That might have something to do with her 80% approval rating.

And as you know she is under investigation for trying to get her former brother in law fired. Allegedly there was some child abuse and if that is true I couldn’t blame her, but it seems there are other ways to go in the case.

She has tried to use executive privleges to keep some emails made public. I don’t have the link to that handy.

I am actually interested in learning more about this, but will reserve judgement until I have more information.

Her husband is not a government employee. He also sits in on many meetings which is certainly not his job.

Explain how this is different from Hillary Clinton sitting in on White House meetings and pushing for Health Care reform, while she was the First Lady.

  64. big_hairy_bubba Says:

Seems like both candidates have had their noses in the Koolaid pitchers (red or blue). Obama, campaigning on a need for a change, picks “Slow Joe Biden” as Veep, as much a part of the Foggy Bottom establishment as any choice he could have made aside from Ted Kennedy. McCain, slamming Obama for lack of experience, picks a Veep with much less experience than even Obama. And now McCain’s new hottie running mate may have the skeleton of a dismissed Safety Director in her closet.

Anyone care for a second helping of hanging chad?

  65. Jaeson Says:

McCain, slamming Obama for lack of experience, picks a Veep with much less experience than even Obama.

This actually just isn’t true. Palin is the only one on either ticket with any executive experience.

Obama was a community organizer, served as a state legislator, and as a U.S. senator.

Palin served on City Council, served as Mayor and as Governor.

The fact of the matter is, the right’s vice presidential candidate, has more experience than the left’s presidential candidate.

  66. gus Says:

The left has nothing left. They have been relegated to nothing more than hateful bigots.

  70. peaceisactive.com Says:

Latest polls not reassuring for the GOP VP pick:

“There is wide uncertainty about whether she’s qualified to be president. In the poll, taken Friday, 39% say she is ready to serve as president if needed, 33% say she isn’t and 29% have no opinion.

That’s the lowest vote of confidence in a running mate since the elder George Bush chose then-Indiana senator Dan Quayle to join his ticket in 1988.”

    Maverick/MILF ’08

  72. Jaeson Says:

    peaceisactive.com,

Could you please post a link to the source of that poll?

  73. Patrick Says:

Peaceisactive, would you care to look at the real poll numbers that show that Obama’s expected 10 to 12 point convention bounce was almost nonexistent? Zogby has a poll taken after “the speech” and after Palin was named that shows Obama & McCain in a 44%-43% statistical dead heat, and shows that 52% of respondents think Palin will help McCain, as opposed to 43% that said Biden would help Obama the day he was chosen.

Liberals are scrambling to find dirt, or create it if they have to. Everything from Palin faking her pregnancy with her Downs Syndrome child, to claiming that she in on Alaskan corruption, when she is the one fighting it, both against democrats and republicans. I even see some claim she wanted Sen. Stevens’ bridge to nowhere, when it was she that actually killed it.

Then we have those classy people like Wisconsin’s own Lt. Governor, Barb Lawton saying that McCain might die next month and some libs claim that he probably has Alzheimer’s and shouldn’t be elected because of his age and the cancer he survived… I hope America’s older population and women are watching to see what Democrats really think of you… You want them in control of American policy? How about your health care?

  74. John Says:

Meanwhile, you have a top Democratic official flying out from Denver talked to a friend and made a rather sick joke about upcoming Hurricane Gustav, which is poised to trash New Orleans.

After visiting my father who has Alzheimer’s, it is a cruel disease and I don’t wish it on anyone.
Barb Lawton’s comments are straight from Huffington, Kos and the other fascist hate mongers of the left.
But she forgot the other half of the equation, what if Obama has a heart attack and dies after a basketball workout? What if Biden’s brain aneurysms start to leak or redevelop, then where’s Obama at?
Sarah Palin as a governor has more executive experience than any of them, even McCain’s when he was a naval squadron commander. AGIA(gas pipeline through to Alberta), Northwest Passage shipping, discussing Arctic mining, drilling and environmental concerns with Russia and Canada. As an executive you have to make decisions, you can’t vote Present.

A woman who likes hunting and ice fishing? That’s got to guaranty a win in Wisconsin!

  80. firelawyer Says:

I see that comment #65 echoes some nutty talk I heard on the Sunday chatter shows, contending that Gov Palin actually has MORE governmental experience than Sen Obama.

Let’s just nip that in the bud with a little comparison…

    Barack Obama

    State Senator (8 years)
    State of Illinois
    Represented 212,000 people
Annual Budget of over $40 billion

    US Senator (4 years)
    State of Illinois
    Represents 12,500,000 people
    Annual budget of $2.7 trillion

    Sarah Palin

Council Member and Mayor (10 years)
    City of Wasilla
    Represented 8,700 people
    Annual Budget of $15 million

    Governor (2 years)
    State of Alaska
    Represents 683,000 people
    Annual budget of $9.8 billion

You can many things in support of the Governor of the Midnight Sun, but more experienced ain’t one of them…

[And here's an unexpected prediction about Gov Palin's first debate with Sen Biden -- my anti-spam word is "toast"]

    Cheers~

  81. Jaeson Says:

    Firelawyer,

If you’re going to nip it in the bud, you have to include all the information, as opposed to cherry picking information.

For instance, the nature of the experience itself, again, Palin is the only one, including both Obama and Biden, with any executive experience of any kind.

To paraphrase Jesse Jackson, the only thing Obama has ever run is his mouth.

Second, it has to be recognized that Obama’s experience also largely includes being an absentee legislator. this is something that isn’t possible when you are a mayor or governor, and decisions have to be made and lived with on a daily and sometimes even hourly basis.

Furthermore, you’ve ignored many of the private exective experience on her resume.

So, nothing here has really been nipped in the bud, primarily because there’s really nothing to nip.

  82. Patrick Dorwin Says:

firelawyer, he was a state senator (one of many, never actually managing anything and voting Present 130 times so as not to take a stance on many issues) for 7 years, and in the US Senate (again, one of 100, not managing anything), it was less than 2 years before he started running.

And let’s not forget the sleazy ways he has won all of his elections, compared to Palin, in defeating established “old boys club” Republicans and bringing true reform instead of just getting on the good side of all the special interests that run Chicago politics.

  83. firelawyer Says:

    OK, OK, I concede…

Serving as President of your PTA chapter is executive experience which prepares one to be President of the United States.

Serving as US Senator is really just joining a debating club and does nothing to prepare one to be President of the United States.

Is this REALLY the most effective line of argument Palin supporters feel they have?
