Please take 15 minutes to watch this video (in two parts). This speech was made yesterday, Sept 19, 2008 in Blaine Mn. John McCain speaks to 13,000 Minnesota voters. The whole thing is very good, he addresses the financial woes we have seen the past week, something Obama refuses to do. But the last few minutes are particularly inspiring. He relates two incidents, one happened at the rally in Green Bay this past Thursday.
Turn up the volume and multi-task for a few minutes while you listen.

I think its a shame that he chooses to do that. There are troops who have fought in those wars on both sides of the aisle, some who believe in Obama, and some who believe in McCain. Some who believe that going to Iraq was right, and some that believe it was wrong.
I have a hard time with what he does because it creates this idea that somehow if you support the troops, you have to support him… when the fact is, not even all the troops support him. And that doesn’t change anyone’s patriotism.

I don’t agree with Nick’s comment at all. I believe McCain was sharing the story to explain what inspires him to keep going. You can see the love he has for this country when he speaks.
He has not implied that others are not patriotic. He’s just not afraid to let everyone know that he is a patriot and that he love this country. It comes across as very sincere knowing what he’s already given for our country. It’s amazing that he’s willing to keep on giving.

I agree with Trudy. What’s so shameful about talking about and showing respect and gratitude to the men and women who put their lives in danger to make sure America is a safer place?

Depends on how you define “support the troops.” If to you, that phrase means “never deploy them for any action more complicated than Grenada” and “feel sorry for them ’cause they were too stupid to get a real job”, yeah, you can’t “support the troops” and support McCain. QED.

Supporting the troops does not mean supporting the idiotic decision to fight a war in Iraq. There’s a host of reasons that war is a bad idea, but I’m unlikely to change anybody’s mind on that score. Suffice it to say that I do not include Afghanistan and the border raids on Pakistan in my list of foolish Dubya decisions.
Supporting the troops means acknowledging and honoring their sacrifices even if in the course of conducting a war of which I do not approve. It means I will not tolerate others spitting upon our returning troops and calling them “baby killers” as happened to our troops returning from Nam. And that I will do everything I can to support their re-integration into our society upon that return.

So McCain urged Congress to do something about the corruption at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac 2 years ago, and Obama did nothing except take their money? This should be getting more attention.

Obama was elected in 04, and took office in ’05 I believe. January ’05 until February 10 ’07, Obama was U.S. Senator. 2 years. Obama recieved this type of payback in just 2 years or less on the job.
Today Obama said he didn’t want to “postpone” Friday’s scheduled Foreign Policy debate, because The President of the United States needs to be able to handle more than 1 thing at a time.
HELLO? Mr.Bereft Obama? You aren’t President. You are still being paid handsomely to execute your duties as a U.S.Senator.
Obviously Obama was so successful as a “community organizer”, that Chicago was fixed, and America needed him to fix America.
This guy is magic. He just skips on past the duties he was elected to handle.
This crisis requires the skills of the Senate and Congress, plus the President. Obama said he would go to Washington, if he got a call telling him that he was needed.
HOLY SHIT BATMAN. This guy is nuts.

Excellent information, thank you. I wonder what the chart would look like if it only included the past 2-3 years? Who would be at the top? I’ve been backtracking to this post on my blog as well, because this is relevant. How Obama can be getting a bump in the polls over all this is beyond me.

John McSame seems hellbent on claiming “country first” as his mantra.
I’d give credit to the Lipsticked Chihuahua for that too, but I don’t
think an understanding of that fits within her five-week-experience
handful of neurons.
So, that said, let’s go through the list of what is _not_ “country
first.”
1. Changing your mind about your plans for the country as president
every few days is not putting “country first.”
2. Placing the country in the position of possibly having yet another
dimwit as a president when you’re so statistically close to kicking
the bucket is not putting “country first.”
3. Voting 95% of the time with a president whose approval rating is
the lowest in the history of the country is not putting “country
first.”
4. Advocating deregulation even when the entire planet is reeling from
the economic consequences of exactly that is not putting “country
first.”
5. Having a VP who claims you know how to win a war, when the only war
you participated in was one we lost, and you only spent two months of
it in active duty, on a carrier, is not putting “country first.”
6. Thinking you can exchange frequent stay points at the Hanoi Hilton
for nights at the Oval Office is not putting “country first.”
7. Spending your birthday on the yacht of a known international con-
man, accompanied by your campaing manager, is not putting “country
first.”
8. Claiming you have “command experience” when in fact all you have
under your belt is 12 months as the CO of some Navy squadron in
Florida, and in reality what you really did was spend the year
screwing around on your crippled wife, is not putting “country first.”
9. Expecting to run the country the same way you run your campaign and
the same way you run your gambling habits in Vegas is not putting
“country first.”
10. Standing by as your running mate uses racial and religious hatred
as a campaign tool is not putting “country first.”
11. Trying to wash your hands of your involvement in the S&L disaster
by claiming it was just “poor decisions” is not putting “country
first.”
12. Acting to cover up information about hundreds, maybe thousands of
POW’s left behind in Vietnam is not putting “country first.”
13. Claiming you’re going to “change Washington DC” by putting
lobbyists who are not only still active but lying about the money they
are receiving from companies like Fannie Mae is not putting “country
first.”
14. Setting an example of how women should be treated by calling your
wife a “cunt” is not putting “country first.”
15. Voting against expanding medical insurance coverage for
defenseless, innocent children is not putting “country first.”
…and finally…
16. Pissing off Letterman by lying to him that you were headed to
Washington to do squat about the credit crisis, when in fact you were
hiding in Katie Couric’s set preparing for an interview, was
incredibly stupid and definitely not an example of putting “country
first.”
