Interesting, John McCain thinks it is more important that Senators do their job and return to Washington to work on the financial bailout. No word yet from Obama… He’s caught flatfooted again, he needs his handlers to tell him what to do and give them time to put it on the teleprompter.

  1. ALERT: MCCAIN: ‘Tomorrow morning, I will suspend my campaign and return to Washington’… | Right Voices Says:

  2. Kate Says:

With all the hoopla leading the local news the last few days, I kind of doubt the folks at Ole Miss are going to want to postpone anything.

On a side note, I’d like to know why only 50 seats are available for the students? :?

  3. firelawyer Says:

No different than a school boy being thankful for a blizzard saving him from the math test for which he is woefully unprepared…

  4. ross Says:

wow, if you really believe that firelawyer, can I get some of what you are on?

  5. Patrick Dorwin Says:

You think McCain is unprepared for foreign policy debate against Barack Obama?

  6. Kevin Says:

John McCain is walking the walk of “Country First” and he is going to be able to use Obama wanting to go ahead as a clear indication of the differing priorities.

By the way, I notice you are able to trackback to Michelle Malkin’s blog, I am a registered poster there but have never been able to get a trackback to work, can you maybe tell me how you do it? I click on the trackback link but don’t get a proper trackback URL, this happens on every one of my computers.

    Thanks

  7. grumps Says:

Senator Obama offers an olive branch to McCain as he slides by and McCain shows his gratitude by playing to the grandstand.

McCain skipped four months of the regular session to campaign. If you believe this is anything other than showboating you may need to re-evaluate your political savvy.

  8. K. Carpenter Says:

My suggestion… Since Obama insists on continuing with the debate on Friday, perhaps he and Biden can debate each other.

Clearly those Obama and Biden have some issues to work out these days.

  10. Mr. Pelican Pants Says:

An interesting study in the character of the two men.

    From one: Country First.
    From the other: Me First.

  11. michaelp Says:

so, if we vote for McCain can we see headlines like:

“McCain tells generals in Iraq he can’t work on Iraq war strategy since he has to work on the market crisis.”

Please. This bailout was announced several days ago, what’s changed? That is, what’s changed other than McCain’s poll numbers trending downward?

  12. K. Carpenter Says:

The Dems are in hysterics. Here is a thought- why doesn’t everyone head back to Washington, do there jobs and resume beating on each other on Monday.

  13. gus Says:

Listen to the libs spin, it’s hilarious.
I smell something and it stinks. It’s either Grunts or liberal fear. Or both.

  14. Roland Melnick Says:

This bailout was announced several days ago, what’s changed?

Pelosi and Reid declaring “We haven’t got a clue so we ain’t touching this one right now!”

McCain’s probably trying to show some leadership…as for the showboating charge…OMG, a politician showboating?!?! That’s a first!

  15. Deibert Says:

(I had to comment since the anti-spam word was “dan”)

Just wondering why the Dem leadership hasn’t yet called for major hearings on the issue. They are normally ready to call for hearings on ANYTHING. Well, anything that will make GWB look bad.

So, wonder why no big push. Wonder who would look bad in the deal. Hmmmm……

  16. Patrick Dorwin Says:

Dan, of course they don’t want people to learn where the blame really belongs…

  17. folkbum Says:

I think it’s great that, after casting his last vote in early April, McCain finally remembered what he does for a living. :)

  18. Deibert Says:

I know he won’t do it, but part of me wishes McCain would just vote “present” on whatever bill ends up sitting before the Senate. Love to see how The Obamanauts would handle that one. :-)

  19. Henry Dubb Says:

Please olive branch? Obama was outfoxed pure and simple. I didn\’t think McCain had it in him.

The rumor is Palin does not want the VP debate unless its open to all ballot qualified parties. That would include Greens, Nader, Lib, Constitution. There is no reason all six of the VP candidates should not be in the debate. If this is true, I applaud her stance on behalf of open debates. I believe the Constitution Party is the national equivalent of the AIP the liberals were so up in arms over.

  20. Fired Up Says:

Just another political ploy by McCain. If I have learned anything about McCain it is that he will pull out all the stops to win this election. One two hour debate won’t hurt his participation in this experiment in socialism that we are undertaking.

  21. Bruce Says:

Oh yeah, “Fired Up”, you are sooooooooo right on. McCain is the master of the political ploy. Democrats NEVER use “political ploys.” McCain is a genius when it comes to spin and posturing.

You, sir, are clearly the “sharpest knife in the drawer.”

If almost every member of the media was in the tank for your opponent, wouldn’t “pulling out all the stops” be within your rights? I mean, what else is the dude going to do? Just wondering aloud.

  22. 3rd way Says:

This is pure political gamesmanship by McCain. He doesn’t want to debate because the debate is no longer going to be focused on the one issue where he has an advantage… foreign policy.

He won’t debate until it is guaranteed that they will only talk foreign policy. His dream scenario is to put it off until it postpones or even cancels the beat down that Biden is going to give Palin.

    Go Green Party

  25. Dan Says:

Ok, here’s my conspiracy theory. By not running advertisements, he is saving money to spend later.
I don’t blame him for going to Washington and that is good strategy, but to stop running ad’s seem to be a bit much.

  26. gus Says:

I agree with Obama’s take on this vital crisis.

If he is needed in Washington in his capacity as a UNITED STATES SENATOR, he can certainly change his plans, if someone “calls him” and tells Obama that his presence is needed and crucial.

Who does Obie think ought call him???

This man is so clownish as to make P.T. Barnum proud.

  27. mjonthemove Says:

My vote is it’s totally a political move on McCain’s part. Look at the JFK-Nixon debates. McCain’s afraid of going on TV, looking really old next to Obama and losing the election by more of a margin in November.

Does that mean that Obama, given some other similar situation wouldn’t also act like a politician? No. Of course not. They are politicians. It’s odd that conservatives call democrats afraid of McCain or defend him to the hilt as “doing his job” when they know it’s really a political move.

I mean I’m perfectly comfortable saying that when I saw Obama speak at the Midwest Express Center last February and he said he would fix America, I rolled my eyes because I knew it was political blather.

    Geez, people.

  28. grumps Says:

McCain has missed more votes than everyone except the poor guy who had the stroke and now he thinks he’s necessary to the process?

Sorry, John. The deal is going to be done without you.

Heckuva nice try at cancelling the Palin smackdown, though. Now that David Blaine is done with the title “Dive of Death” maybe you can lease it for your campaign slogan.

  29. Jaeson Says:

McCain has missed more votes than everyone except the poor guy who had the stroke and now he thinks he’s necessary to the process?

    I vote present.

  30. big_hairy_bubba Says:

McCain is desperately trying to shed his earlier remarks about the healthy state of the economy. He’s out of touch, but he’s far from dumb, and this move caught Obama flatfooted.

  31. Gina Says:

    LEADERSHIP VS. SELF INTEREST …
Our country is facing the worst economic disaster since the great depression.
    Even Obama says so.
It’s the responsibility of the Senate to come up with an answer.
The answer has to be decided in a few days.
The answer will dramatically affect Americans for generations to come.
McCain, Obama, and Binden are all U.S. Senators.
Throughout the campaign, Obama has turned down the chance for 10 townhall debates.
… and now, Obama refuses McCain’s request that they both postpone the debate to work
on the economic recovery package … and Obama declines, in order to campaign???
I think the facts speak for themselves …

  32. big_hairy_bubba Says:

Obama is correct that the President cannot concentrate entirely on one issue to the exclusion of all others.

McCain has done a passable job of hijacking “change” and is now trying to do the same with the nation’s economy.

Come November, I will once again have to decide which two-faced liar is likely to do the least harm in the next 4 years.

Btw, what happened to lipstick as a campaign issue?

  33. gus Says:

Bhb, if you are looking for lipstick, you might find it on Obama’s ass. Check the shades, you’ll find Katie Courics for sure.

  34. Ron Says:

BHB, Then you must agree that a president can read a book to school children and contemplate the repercussions of the 9-11 attacks.

  35. big_hairy_bubba Says:

Of course a president can read and think about something else at the same time. Had Dubya been reading to the kids that afternoon or the next day, I’d have no quarrel. Continuing to do so at the precise moment when he got first word of the attack gives me cause to wonder about his understanding and judgement. OOn the other hand, it might just have been a really good book and he wanted to see how it ended.
