Given the current tightening of purse strings (except at MPS) that’s going on these days, is the Milwaukee Common Council doing the right thing here by deciding not to fund the “Plain Talk Initiative?”  This is another example of a program losing its Fed dollars, leaving localities to decide whether or not to pick up the tab.  The Mayor wants to re-direct Fed monies for other projects to this, but as yet this “other project(s)” has yet to be named.  So far, Alds. Hines, Bauman, Witkowski and Dudzik have voted to not fund the PTI.  One might argue, given a peek at some stats provided in a JS editorial , that the program wasn’t accomplishing its goals, or maybe things would be a lot worse without it.  Given the cuts going on in essential city services (police and fire), is it unreasonable to find cuts in other areas?
