In its endorsement of John Gard for Wisconsin’s 8th District congressional seat, Esquire magazine recently wrote:

“This Green Bay rematch promises to be close, not least because freshman Kagen manages to stick his foot in his mouth with regularity.”

Milwaukee’s WTMJ-AM played some audio this morning which it had apparently captured from a recent call-in “question and answer” session with Congressman Steve Kagen at a Green Bay radio station.

In the audio, a caller queries Kagen as to why he would have “embarrassed” the residents of his district by intentionally calling Laura Bush “Barbara”, which Kagen boasted about shortly after his congressional freshman orientation in a chest-pumping attempt to impress a room full of peace activists.

In reports published in January 2007, Kagen claimed that he had intentionally called Laura Bush “Barbara” within earshot of the president because he believed it was “the most offensive thing you could do to another gentleman.” In the same meeting, Kagen claimed to have cornered Karl Rove in a White House restroom, holding the door closed as Rove tried to exit, asking him, “Do you recognize me? I’m Dr. Multimillionaire, and I kicked your ass.”

The incident even earned Kagen kudos from his progressive brethren at DemocraticUnderground.

Later, after the White House issued a press release calling Kagen out on his rather grandiose claims, Kagen admitted that he had “made the stories up”, in what he called “a mishandled attempt at humor.”

Yet Kagen told the caller to the Green Bay radio program (presumably, one of his constituents) that she essentially had her facts wrong, claiming that “confusing Laura and Barbara Bush is a mistake that happens all the time.”

Even the Journal/Sentinel, in a recent feature on Kagen, acknowledged Kagen’s gaffe, and his subsequent admission that the story was nothing but a fabrication.

Thus, Congressman Kagen’s answer to the call-in questioner was at best a lie, and, at worst, delusional. Which is nothing new for Kagen.

This is the same Steve Kagen who allowed a staffer to copy and paste the code of another congressperson’s website while constructing his own, directing his Green Bay constituents on how to contact their congressperson — A Republican from Nebraska. Oh, and it’s hard to forget those shirts he had made up with the giant logo “Steve Kagen: Congressman” embroidered on the pocket, almost as though he didn’t believe it himself, and wanted to be reminded every time he looked in the mirror.

Residents of Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District, send “Dr. Multimillionaire” packing. He may be a doctor, but he’s a moron. And he’ll undoubtedly work even harder to be an embarrassment to the State of Wisconsin after his party is handed the keys to the country.

  1. John Says:

If Gard doesn’t take him out, reapportionment down to seven seats in 2011 eventually will.
