Madison…Madison law enforcement officials today are searching for a child sex predator who was granted work release privileges despite pleading no contest last month to repeatedly sexually assaulting a young child near Madison. After learning of the disappearance of the child sex predator this morning, State Representative Scott Suder (R-Abbotsford) and State Representative Mark Honadel (R-South Milwaukee) immediately drafted an amendment to their Wisconsin’s Jessica’s Law to bar state courts from granting work release privileges for all child sex offenders awaiting sentencing in state courts. Suder and Honadel said they were outraged by the court’s decision to allow this monster to walk back out onto the streets of Wisconsin unsupervised while he was awaiting sentencing for his attacks.

“Thanks to a ridiculous decision by a Dane County court this monster is now back out on the street instead of behind bars where he belongs,” Suder said. “This unfortunate case highlights the fact that our criminal justice system is failing to protect the public from these monsters. That is why we must immediately pass Jessica’s Law and Project KidSafe to protect our children from these predators.”

For example, journalist Dan Rather left the anchor chair at CBS News after Internet reporters revealed he had used forged documents to criticize Bush’s military record in September 2004. The forgeries, which Bush now calls a conspiracy, ended up helping his reelection campaign, he acknowledged in the Oval Office interview.

“It looks like somebody conspired to float false documents,” the president tells author Bill Sammon. “And I was amazed about it. I just couldn’t believe that would be happening [and] then it would become the basis of a fairly substantial series of news stories.”

He added: “Then there was a backlash to it. I mean, a lot of people were angry that this could have happened. A lot of Americans are fair people and they viewed this as patently unfair. So in a funny way, I guess it inured to our benefit, when it was all said and done.”

I didn’t realize this was happening today, I planned to discuss it when I heard back from my Alderman, Joe (smoking ban) Davis, asking just what it was about the change that he opposed so strongly, since he held three “town hall” meetings on the issue, but my request was never answered.

The Milwaukee Common Council voted today to undo a nearly 30-year-old rule restricting the placement of group homes for people with disabilities, based on court rulings that had already rendered the 2,500-foot-spacing rule largely unenforceable.

The council voted 13-2 on a measure that lifts the rule on homes for people with mental or physical handicaps. Aldermen hope that will make it easier to retain the restrictions as they relate to drug treatment centers or halfway houses for released criminals.

Aldermen Joe Davis and Jim Bohl opposed the change. Both cited concerns about the concentration of such facilities in their northwest side districts.

I would still like an answer, perhaps of Alderman Davis would like to answer here, feel free, here is a copy of the email I sent on February 18.

Alderman Davis, I recieved your Winter Newsletter a few day ago and
noticed that you are quite opposed to group homes and the possible
changes that may increase the number of these facilities on our
community. Could you explain your opposition? Is there a particular type
of facility that you oppose or is it any residential group home facility?

To be honest, when I first read the newsletter, I thought I may have
missed something, thinking that you were opposing group homes for
released criminals or something, but after rereading, it is clear that
you are opposing group homes for the disabled.

I work for one of the companies that run the counties Transit Plus
program, we provide transportation for the elderly and physically and
developmentally disabled, so I am in many group homes each day, and I
find them clean and well maintained inside and out and they do a great
job for our disabled citizens. I have been in the business long enough
to remember what it was like when these disabled people were forced into
large facilities like The Jackson Center before they and others were
closed down and I would hate to see us regress to that point again. We
have a lot of elderly and disabled that are in vastly better places in
group homes where I see them getting the loving care that they deserve.

Again, perhaps I am missing something in your stance, if so, please
clarify, if it is the homes you oppose, can you give me the reasons why
you oppose them so strongly?

I am a Blogger and am interested in this subject and will probably write
about it, but I first want to understand why it is that you are opposed
to more group homes being allowed.

John Mercure, someone I have mentioned and linked to video reports several times during my coverage of sexual predators in Wisconsin, has started a new Blog! Mercure Uncut

Mercure has become one of my favorite reporters because of his hard hitting investigations and he is an awesome addition to my blogroll! The best thing about his Blog is that he is even more outspoken than in his news reports. In his post today on Brian Homz, this sick disgusting pile of shit that raped the 5 year old daughter of his girlfriend, then tried to place the blame on the child’s grandfather, because his girlfriend refused to have sex with him one night, Mercure get’s quite detailed on what the punishment should be… And I agree totally, I’ll bring the rope!

Go check him out, he will be a regular visit for me.

The paper has noticed that a move toward smaller county boards is catching on. Their column isn’t as detailed or fact filled as Bruce Murphy’s piece, WHY ARE WISCONSIN’S COUNTY BOARDS SO BIG?, two weeks ago, but still worth the read.

With 35 members, it qualifies as the 11th largest county board in the nation, out of some 3,000 ranked by the National Association of Counties.

It is larger than the county boards operating in St. Louis, Houston, Atlanta, Cleveland and San Francisco combined.

But is it too big?

ALSO! This smoking ban will NOT EFFECT the casino, so you can count on the Potawatomi expanding their bar area in the casino if this goes through.

Kenosha County Senator Bob Wirch is telling constituents that he will now vote No on the Ethanol Mandate. Also, the fact that the bill still hasn’t been scheduled for a vote, proving that opponents to this terrible legislation are having an effect, so keep those calls to your State Senators going!

A third actor has passed away.

Comic genius Don Knotts passed away Friday night. Knotts was one of the truly funny people, unlike what passes for comedy these days.

One of the most prolific, but never really famous character actors Darren McGavin died Saturday.

And today we learn that Dennis Weaver of Gunsmoke and McCloud fame has also passed away.

A few weeks ago, Chanel 4 News did a story that showed released child molesters living in very close proximity to schools, you can watch the video here.

After that story I did a little exploring and wrote a few letters to see what could be done to get some action on SB-176, a bill that would limit where these released predators could live. Today I got a note from Senator Judy Robson’s office that “Senate Bill 176 is scheduled for a vote by the Senate Judiciary, Corrections and Privacy Committee on Wednesday, March 1st.”

The long time head of the Bradley Foundation, Michael Joyce has passed away and Milwaukee and Wisconsin has lost a Conservative leader… or should I say, an icon?

School choice, W2, Miller Park, none of them would have become a reality without Joyce. He has been called “the godfather of modern philanthropy” related to conservative causes, by Irving Kristol. Paul Gigot said of Joyce, “Michael Joyce is the closest thing to the original source for what Mr. Bush is trying to accomplish.”

In using the second to promote the first, he became a central force in shaping the way Milwaukee and Wisconsin evolved and a pioneer in pushing conservative philanthropy and advocacy nationwide.

Friends said Sunday that Joyce, 63, died Friday after a long battle with liver illness.
