Moron

Oliver Stone doesn’t seem to think that car bombs going off in America would not be a big deal, I mean the British fought the IRA for a hundred years, so why can’t we deal with terrorists the same way, huh?

Oliver Stone is disgraced & ashamed of America because:

“We did not fight back in the same way that the British fought the IRA or the Spanish government fought the Basques here. Terrorism is a manageable action. It can be lived with,” said [Oliver] Stone.

Another bloody weekend in Milwaukee, but don’t tell the Mayor

Saturday, September 30th, 2006

JS Online reports that 4 people were shot overnight. One was shot by police after he rammed their squad with his stolen car, that tried to run down the cops.

Mayor Barrett still doesn’t think there is a problem…

Outstanding website update for Fox 6

Friday, September 29th, 2006

Milwaukee’s Fox 6 News website was terrible, it used frames and to link to anything was a real pain in the @ss, but when I went to the site today, I was greeted to a whole new look, no more frames, lots of video, stories are linkable, just like a real 21st Century website! The URL has also changed, but if you use the old Fox6Milwaukee.com, it will automatically kick you to the flashy new MyFoxMilwaukee.com.

They even have an interesting blog feature that allows people to comment and talk about the news… Very interesting.

Update: I even set up a personal blog on their site, you can see it here.

Latest WSJ poll numbers

Friday, September 29th, 2006

The Wall Street Journals latest poll numbers show the Wisconsin Gubernatorial race is a dead heat.

Doyle: 45.7%
Green: 44.4%
Margin of error: +/- 3.4 points

After the two weeks of constant mudslinging by Doyle and his hatchet men, Mark Green has closed the gap. It seems clear that Doyle’s desperate attempt to win at all costs is not working.

Hat tip to Andy!

Sometimes even a blind squirrel finds a nut

Friday, September 29th, 2006

Blind SquirrelProof that even a blind squirrel occasionally finds a nut, the Milwaukee County Board made the right decision and sold a parcel of the old Park East Freeway land on the northern edge of Milwaukee, to a company that will build a luxury hotel, condominiums, offices and retail space.

I was sure that they would choose the plan that was going to put in a cheep hotel, a gas station and a convenience store that would have brought the county substantially more, in taxes, construction jobs and in the land purchase price. Good job County Board, do you think you can use the same good judgment and approve Scott Walker’s new budget plan that calls for the 5th straight property tax freeze?

JS Online:Park East plan wins approval

A $104 million proposal for a luxury hotel, condominiums, offices and retail space in downtown Milwaukee’s Park East area won approval Thursday from the County Board, which voted to sell a county-owned site for the development.

The board voted 16-3 to sell the parcel, bordered by N. Old World 3rd and N. 4th streets and W. Juneau and W. McKinley avenues, to a group led by Ruvin Development Inc. and Dallas-based Gatehouse Capital Corp. Their plan calls for a 175-room hotel, 70 condos, 55,000 square feet of offices, 31,000 square feet of retail space and a 330-car parking structure.

In making that decision, the board rejected a rival proposal from Rana Enterprises. Rana proposed a 202-room hotel, a gas station/convenience store, 14,000 square feet of offices, 9,000 square feet of additional retail space and a 400-car parking structure.

[…]

An internal study group that included county development officials recommended the Ruvin/Gatehouse proposal. Those county officials said Ruvin’s proposal would generate annual property taxes of just more than $2 million, compared with roughly $626,000 that Rana’s development would generate each year.

Ruvin would create 500 construction jobs, while Rana would create 131 to 154 construction jobs, according to the developers. Ruvin offered to buy the parcel for $2.9 million, compared with $2.8 million by Rana.

Wisconsin A.G. race

Thursday, September 28th, 2006

Hey Wisconsin, the race for governor is in the spotlight, but remember that we have to keep an eye on the Attorney Generals race too. J.B. Van Hollen is really racking up the endorsements, even from Democratic District Attorneys and Sheriffs from around the state, and even The Milwaukee Police Association.

It is obvious that Catch & Release Kate is feeling the pressure, she has begun to try to slime J.B.

She still hasn’t answered my question either…

The biggest news wasn’t even in the story

Thursday, September 28th, 2006

This is a really interesting observation from Mark Belling today. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel ran a story in their paper talking about next years schedule for Champ Car (formerly CART), one of the two open wheel racing circuits in the United States. They talk about the return to Road America and mention several other cities and tracks, but the real news is what they did not print.

Champ Car and CART before it, has been racing at The Milwaukee Mile since 1933, and as far as I can tell, it has been held almost every year since with the exception of the World War 2 years. They have certainly been run for each of the past 27 years since the name was changed to Champ Car.

The Milwaukee Mile is the oldest race track on the nation, it has held at least one race each year since 1903, and until this news, the Milwaukee Mile was the only race track in the nation that held races for NASCAR, the Champ Car World Series, and the Indy Racing League.

How can the Milwaukee news paper run a story on this without mentioning a huge local angle?

Dow hits all time high

Thursday, September 28th, 2006

The Dow hit 11,724.86 this morning, but the headline in the MJS points out the negative:
Stock prices fall after Dow milestone

Notice that they just can’t bring themselves to see a new record as proof that out economy is strong.

If a Democrat were in the White House, does anyone doubt that this would be front page headline news?

Oh great, just what we need

Thursday, September 28th, 2006

As if the heroine on Milwaukee streets wasn’t potent enough, now we learn that the powerful painkiller Fentanyl is hitting the streets here. This drug is mixed with heroine to make an even more potent drug.

JS Online: Deadly fentanyl seized in Milwaukee

A powerful drug that when mixed with heroin has been traced to the deaths of 200 people across the nation has surfaced in Milwaukee, police said today.

Last week, vice detectives seized 6.5 grams of pure fentanyl- a legally produced painkiller that is 80 times stronger than morphine in a bust on the city’s north side, said Lt. of Detectives Robert Stelter.

They thought they were getting heroin and were surprised to learn it was fentanyl, which the suspect was selling presumably to be cut into heroin, he said. It is Milwaukee’s first seizure of the drug and the largest in the state to date, he said.

If I owned WalMart, know what I would do?

Thursday, September 28th, 2006

If I owned Walmart and had to undergo attack after attack the way they do, I would make the critics happy and fire all 1.8 million employees, take my $~billions~$ of dollars of economic activity, and just leave the United States. I would then sit back and watch the same people that vilified me for running a successful company, producing almost a million jobs, providing a product that consumers obviously want, giving $245 million to local and national charities then laugh at them as they talked about how mean and heartless I was for devastating the economies of entire communities and thousands of families.

This move would put more than 225,000 African American employees, more than 150,000 Hispanic employees and more than 240,000 seniors out of a job… Do you people really want to see that happen?

If you can’t win, you might as well enjoy your self.

Milwaukee Wi-Fi — Back on track?

Thursday, September 28th, 2006

This should have been up and running already, but it looks like some progress will FINALLY happen. I was hoping that when the city started talking to other vendors, things would move along. I honestly expected that the city would allow one of the larger companies take over since Midwest Fiber didn’t seem to be able to get started. I hope things can now go as planned, but I honestly have lost confidence in the system working as we have been told… Time shall tell.

JS Online:Wi-Fi deal swings back to local firm

After months of negotiation and repeated city threats to bring in other wireless Internet companies, Milwaukee’s citywide Wi-Fi system will be built by the same local start-up business that first proposed it: Midwest Fiber Networks Inc.

Mayor Tom Barrett said he signed a contract Wednesday to allow Midwest Fiber to use city facilities to build a privately funded $20 million Wi-Fi system, starting with the area near Marquette University.

By next week, Midwest Fiber will have crews on the streets of the city’s near west side, mapping out sites to mount antennas and working out engineering details for the first phase of the system, said Donna Raffaelli-Meyer, a Midwest Fiber partner. Within the next few weeks, the company will start announcing which Internet service providers will be available through the system, she said.

Oh Man! That was sooo good

Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

I have been thinking about a big pot of chili since the weather started cooling off, and today I finally indulged my craving and made a huge pot! It was very good, but it always tastes better the second day!

Damn, I almost feel sorry for the people that I have to work with tomorrow… Notice that I said “almost”
