Remember Coop’s Tiny Tap? While it seems like something from another lifetime, just a little over a year ago, it was a thriving, popular neighborhood watering hole on the far west side of Milwaukee… with a tenured, “friend-to-all” bartender, Pam Roberts.

Then, in the blink of an eye, the bar, and the neighborhood it was in, changed immeasurably. Well, I guess we can now deduce who that suspect being held in Roberts’ murder last March was.

According to the Journal/Sentinel late today, a suspect, Joel Cecil Cain, taken into custody in the days immediately following the killing, has been charged with Roberts’ murder.

From the Journal/Sentinel‘s report on Cain, who is presumed innocent until proven guilty:

“Cain was identified as a suspect a few days after the killing, said Milwaukee police Lt. William Jessup.

“As we began interviewing family and friends of Cain, we became more convinced that he was involved,” Jessup said.

A number of people who viewed the surveillance video - including Cain’s wife, Sara - told investigators they believed the man in the video was Joel Cain, based largely on his clothing, physical appearance and distinctive walk, the complaint says.

Cain’s wife told investigators she and her husband had been in financial trouble for a few months before the killing and said her husband was addicted to cocaine and gambling, according to the complaint.

A man who sold cocaine to Cain in the bar told investigators that Cain had said Coop’s Tiny Tap would be an easy place to rob, the complaint says.

Cain, who owed the man about $400, paid the man $98 in cash the night of the killing, the complaint says.

The man also identified Cain as the man seen in the surveillance video, the complaint says.”

I drive by the former Coops quite often, and unfortunately, it’s too late to rescue the now-abandoned business from the events of one terrible afternoon which sealed its fate. But, a testament to the aptitude of the Milwaukee Police Department’s Homicide Division, in this city’s murders, sooner or later, they usually bring charges against a suspect.

And, unlike some other troubled cities in this state, when MPD Homicide has someone in their sights, they rarely look the other way.

Bruce. At the time, you and I both acknowledged our vague affiliation with the Tiny Tap, and we both found the story creepy. As both of us grew up in adjacent Tosa, and both of us had ‘Hung’ there at one time or another, it HIT HOME.
MPD isn’t infested with numerous Charlene Hardin’s. MPD is a professional law enforcement agency. MPD virtually ALWAYS GET’S IT’S MAN.
Mike Mathias will be heartbroken, as will most libtards.
I’m happy that this case appears to be solved.
    And WITHOUT RACE controversy!

I used to live over by 44th and Vliet for a time, and used to frequent the Tiny Tap from time to time.

It was a nice little place.

It sounds like the Tiny Tap was a good place to score cocaine. If you allow that kind of stuff to happen in your bar you can’t be surprised when your bar is full of thugs and criminals.

Talked to some people in the know today…this is going to be a tough case for the State. I wish them well.
