This week over at the D.o.D. Buzz website, writer Colin Clark asks “Pirates Take US Ship; Prosecute or Plug Em?”
I offer this simple plan for President Obama:
The resources:
- 1) A container ship rigged to look like a car carrier;
- 2) A platoon of US Marines;
- 3) Two Harrier jets;
- 4) A couple of high altitude surveillance UAVs.
The plan: Have intelligence and diplomatic sources carefully spread misinformation that a shipment of specially ordered luxury vehicles is enroute up the coast of Somalia enroute one of the oil kingdoms. Lure the pirates several hundred miles out to ensure the involvement of one of the more sophisticated piracy groups that utilize a “mother ship.” Load the Harriers and Marines onto the decoy container ship. Drive the ship into the target area and put the UAVs overhead. When the pirates swift boat approaches, track it from its source. When it arrives, let the Marines greet them. Send the Harriers to dispatch the “mother ship.” Lather, rinse, repeat.
