Just a quick follow-up to yesterday afternoon’s shooting of two Milwaukee PD cops on the streets of Walker’s Point:

There’s been an outpouring of support from our community for these two recovering heroes and their families. But, MPD’s Anne E. Schwartz tells us this afternoon that the best thing you can offer these two men, right now, are your prayers.

Also, as pointed out by our own Captain Glenn D. Frankovis (MPD, Ret.) those wishing to send cards and well-wishes to the officers can do so in care of their District Two Station:

245 W. Lincoln Avenue
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
53207-1115

If we hear anything of a fund established for these men or their families, we’ll pass the info along to you.

A “Thank You Milwaukee Police Department!” event will be held all day June 20 to benefit the two Milwaukee officers gunned down and seriously wounded when they stopped a man on a bike earlier this week.

Organized by Steny’s Tavern & Grill and Bell Ambulance, the benefit will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at S. 2nd St. and W. National Ave. in the city’s Walker’s Point neighborhood.

A Web site for the event, http://www.tympd.com, has been set up to feature the day’s activities and to allow visitors to make contributions to help Officers Bryan Norberg, 21, and Graham Kunisch, 26, who were both shot on Tuesday when they stopped Julius C. Burton, 18, for questioning. Burton remains in custody on $1 million bail on two counts of attempted first-degree intentional homicide, use of a dangerous weapon.

Norberg was released from the hospital on Thursday. Kunisch remained in critical condition on Friday.

The day will include a 9 a.m. blue plate breakfast followed by a full day of family-friendly activities, live music, and food and beverages.

Anyone interested in contributing to the fund by mail may make checks payable to Police Officer Support Team Officers Fund, which is tax deductible. Those may be sent to TYMPD.com c/o Bell Ambulance at P.O. Box 070550, Milwaukee, Wis., 53207-0550.
