Just out today is a press release by Alderman Bob Donovan in which he objects to Mayor Barrett using Chief Ed Flynn at a fundraiser for the Mayor on July 21st at the Italian Community Center.
In the letter, which you can read at this link, Alderman Donovan details his concerns about this unprecedented use of a Milwaukee Police Chief.
It is well recognized that Chief Flynn is an excellent speaker and is also no secret that the Mayor is his boss and paved the way for his appointment in an application process that was closed but then reopened to accept Flynn’s application, however I do not recall any Milwaukee Police Chief ever being used in such a capacity as Barrett will be using Flynn and can’t help but wonder if this isn’t some kind of payback for previous favors rendered by the Mayor. After all, how do you say “NO” to the guy who made it possible for you to get hired and supported you during a recent well publicized crisis without alienating yourself from him? Then again, how do you say “YES” to Mayor Barrett and “NO” to another Milwaukee politician who may ask the same favor of you in future elections?
Maybe one of our Milwaukee aldermen will consider a run against Mayor Barrett and want Chief Flynn to speak at his/her fundraiser. I think Chief Flynn would be better advised to remain neutral in politics and focus his talents on the job for which he was hired.

Proof that Chief Flynn’s Adultery is accepted and praised by the dysfunctional community of Milwaukee?
I would say the uncaring morals and values are what is wrecking Milwaukee, but if Chief Flynn’s Adultery is accepted, then what else is acceptable, as long as no one is hurt?
I don’t think the Chief would be the best person to ask to help speak at a fund raising event, but Doyle and Barrett are a little choo-choo twisted.

Glen, FYI “at this link” does not show the letter just the press release.
Donovan is correct that the Chief should not be brought into the political game as the position is not an elected, political one.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention Don. It’s taken care of now. The link will take the reader to the “Press Releases” website, then look for the date July 15th and over to the right is the link for the letter.

Flynn can not control Poverty, he will not be able to re-educate by silly tv advertisements like they’ve tried for busing and drunk driving. Hasn’t worked for thirty-years, complete waste of money. He will not be able instill good morals and values in uncaring people, if he himself is uncaring and has bad morals and values.
He needs to send the officers into the city before school starts, knocking on doors to insure the kids get to school with lunch in hand, the ones that are being neglected, the one that will be outcasts, the ones that will be unemployable, the catalyst. Tom and Flynn should talk about getting the kids to school and/or fund raise for SEED program. 49% truancy rate = future for little
or no chance for job = guaranteed poverty = great potential for choosing path of crime.
The main problem is that if he knocks on particular doors the deadbeat parents (the problem) will complain.
Better to not pretend that we can fix a problem with other peoples money, when problem is most apparent.

Glenn, Since Flynn has become Chief, I have noticed more joint press conferences with Flynn and Barrett, than with previous Chiefs. The press conferences are probably mutually beneficial. Especially for Barrett as the MPD is perceived as successful in reducing reported crime.
Although I agree that the Chief’s position should remain distanced from politics, I think that in this day and age, it is almost impossible. The Fire & Police Commisssion picks the Chief, but the Mayor picks the Fire & Police Commissioners. And the Mayor, (going back to Norquist)always gets their pick as Chief, right?

I suppose. He obviously understands how important it is to stay on the right side of the Mayor based upon what happened to him out in Springfield and to Chief Bratton in New York City. (Kind of reminds me of an Al McGuire type as opposed to the straight forward Bobby Knight type. Both were successful. One knew how to work people and the other was just right up front. I liked both but preferred Knight.) If this is the way it’s going to be, then I would like them all to dispense with the smoke and mirrors about the FPC being an independent body. Those of us on the inside always knew it wasn’t, but the media keeps supporting the myth they are spoonfed by the Mayor’s Office and the FPC.

Thanks Glenn for the re-link to the letter. Very interesting moment for the Mayor.

Flynn sleeps with a woman who is not his spouse. Jones sleeps with a woman who is not his spouse. Hegerty sleeps with a woman who is not her spouse.
If all that happened, nobody should be surprised.
I would be surprised to hear that it affected Flynn’s job performance, like it did with Hegerty and Jones (if it happened).
I’m not sticking up for him, and I disagree with many of the things he has done, but I don’t think him boinking Jessica McBride really had or will have anything to do with his job performance.
How many others in law enforcement boinked Jessica McBride without hurting their careers?
It’s his relationship with the mayor that is causing problems.

This is by no means the first time Ed Flynn has had an affair, check with Springfield, MA. Interesting that who ever was responsible for vetting Flynn didn’t do such a great job, guess they were overly impressed with his “intelligence and charm.” Tried to warn you…..

stalker3 does not make sense.
Adultery is a crime in Wisconsin, if Flynn can commit crime and gets away with it, then how can he hole anyone else responsible for their crimes. Adultery or not?
Now if he fined himself the 10,000 dollars and paid it, then maybe I would agree its not affecting his work, because restitution was paid. Sleeping with the neighbors does not build good communities, usually someone ends up dead.
You have been fooled by the media to think this is ok, when it really isn’t.
