Wisconsin & Illinois are the only states in the nation that does not allow the concealed carry of firearms, even by people that spend a career doing so, out retired police officers. But that will soon be changing.

Flynn wants to let retired police officers carry guns
Soon, hundreds of former MPD officers in Wisconsin also could be able to carry concealed weapons, under a federal law that allows retired officers to be certified annually and carry their guns in any state.

The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act was passed in 2004, and many other Wisconsin law enforcement agencies have been certifying their retirees to carry guns for years.

Wisconsin and Illinois are the only two states that do not allow any form of concealed carry. The federal law for retired officers would override those bans.

Hopefully this will soon be a moot point, as under a responsive state government, we will all be allowed the right to defend ourselves in the near future, but the thought that a retired law enforcement officer not being allowed to carry a gun if they wish to, has always struck me as incredibly stupid. Their training over a lifetime of service to the community could be invaluable in a crisis situation.

But Patrick, Joel “Moe” McNally of the Shepherd’s Express says Wisconsin will turn into Dodge City if it passes “concealed carry.”

You know, I’ve heard that talking point from him and many of the LibProg Squawk Brigade. It bothered me until I realized that it is merely evidence of their parochial mentality. If the other 48 States have it in some form, why haven’t they turned into the Wild West? Clearly they have not.

Roland, many Libs have been loathe to admit that gun control is an utter failure as an issue for them. Nice to see Flynn step up and address the issue though! If Clarke would do something similar, I’d be even happier! But I’m not holding my breath.

The problem is the Doyle Admin. Through Training and Standards, has been passing the ball on whose responsibility it is to provide the training, what the standards are, and what the Policies should be. Smaller Departments have been doing certifications for retired members since the law was passed without any issues.

Roland the same argument was made in Minnesota. We were going to shoot each other over parking spaces etc. I am on my second five year permit now. Have yet to even think about drawing my pistol.

Russ Feingold was on the fast Eddie Shultz show.

    Still blaming Bush.

jay: Lost in the left wing hysteria about Arizona’s illegal immigration law was another law that Gov. Brewer signed.
It was a fundamental right to carry a firearm, similar to VT and AK laws.
In Arizona, you can now carry openly or concealed without a permit unless you are ineligible under federal law. A permit is still available if you travel to other states that have reciprocity with AZ.

There have been no reports of wholesale slaughter from AZ, at least by US citizens and legal residents.

  6. jay Says:

We( the pro carry crowd) are making progress mr. parker. The anti’s keep making the same predictions no matter how many times they have been wrong.

The 48 States allowing carry now is only part of the story. Many of those States have gone from may issue to shall issue MN is one of those States. Other’s have removed certain restrictions like carry in restaurants and bars.

As soon as WI gets a reasonable Governor I am sure that concealed carry will pass. Just make sure that you hold on to your right to carry openly without a permit.
