Bike rack use averages 1,178 per month, Milwaukee bus system reports
Riders utilized the bike racks on Milwaukee County Transit System buses 9,400 times in the first eight months of the new service, according to a release from MCTS.Without a sharp increase, the service use would fall well-short of the 200,000 annual figure touted during earlier debates about the purchase and maintenance of the racks. That number was one of the projections generated by the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin, based on the increased ridership reported in other cities that installed bike racks.

Maintenance costs for the racks have totaled $19,000. The racks and installation cost $405,000.
What an asinine waste of money — $650,000 for this

Just think what $600,000 could have bought if it had been applied to upgrading customer service? One thing I’d do if I was Bus God would be to have an electronic system by which a bus rider at a stop waiting for a bus could dial on his/her cell phone a #, enter the bus line # (like whitefish bay to downtown bus) and enter the bus stop # (put it on the stop shelter) and find out how long the next bus will come-Each bus must have a gps already and the computer could calculate time from bus to that stop. A lot of riders are bummed out when they wait and wait for a bus, especially if there is some unknown hold up.

The bike usage according to their figures average out to 39 bikes per day-
