When I saw this photo, the thought occurred to me that those same employees with their signs could just as easily be openly criticizing Barrett. Of course they aren’t, really. As we’ve seen, heated rhetoric is reserved solely for Scott Walker. A fact that I pointed out to a friend of mine who is an AFSCME member. His counter to my point was that maybe it was a matter of scale. It’s not that Barrett hasn’t instituted furlough days…he has…and Jim Doyle has issued even more…but Walker issued more days than either one.
The number of days is a fact that can’t be argued. My question to him is which would-be Governor is more likely to get the massive State level shortfalls back in line? Walker has a track record submitting zero-increase budgets…it’s just too bad that the MilCo Board couldn’t abide the tough decisions.
If they can’t say no when money is tight, when can they? Or better yet, why should they? Chris Larson, MilCo Supervisor and wholly owned union subsidiary, just beat incumbent Jeff Plale after a bitter Democrat primary. An uber-liberal who will undoubtedly fight any and every tax-cutting, cost-saving proposal from Governor Walker. Being a “true Democrat” didn’t hurt Larson, so don’t expect him to wake one day on the side of the taxpayer. By the same token, don’t believe for a second that Russ Feingold’s or Tom Barrett’s new found fiscal conservatism in their campaign rhetoric will survive the first week of November. The unions wouldn’t support such a prospect.

“Herd mentality” is an interesting thing.
