You know the drill, if you think there is something that needs discussing and it hasn’t been touched upon, this is the place for you to bring it up.

Another one rolls on McGee

November 15th, 2007

The Alderthug has had another of his co-defendants (Little Al Stewart II) roll over and plead guilty, apparently taking a plea bargain the way Dimitrius Jackson did. And interestingly enough, Little Al Stewart II is the only one that has been out on bail this whole time.

McGee co-defendent seeks to change plea
The second of two co-defendants with jailed Ald. Mike McGee Jr. in the beating conspiracy case that led to the politician’s Memorial Day arrest requested Thursday a chance to change his not-guilty plea.

Little Al Stewart II, who like McGee and Dimitrius Jackson was charged in May with two felony counts of plotting the beating of a man, has been scheduled for a plea date Nov. 29. Up to the point of the request, Stewart, 52, has maintained a plea of not guilty. He has been out on $20,000 bail since June.

Court records indicate the request was by mutual request of Stewart and prosecutors, but no further information was available about the request.

Guardian Angels begin patrols in Milwaukee

November 15th, 2007

Guardian Angels from Green Bay (I didn’t know they were there either) and Chicago will be patrolling the near south side neighborhood where last weeks gang shootings included two police officers.

On Saturday, Ald. Zielinski said the Guardian Angels will announce the appointment of a Milwaukee chapter leader, Derek Smith, and a chapter spokesperson, Willie Brooks. Both were original members of the Guardian Angels when they were here in Milwaukee in the ’80’s. They have also acquired a building for a headquarters and training facility.

Guess who has been indicted?

November 15th, 2007

* Barry * has been indicted, the third paragraph of the Fox News story below is devastating news for *Barry* because it clearly means that he is talking to the feds.

Homerun Superstar Barry Bonds Indicted on Perjury, Obstruction of Justice Charges
Barry Bonds, baseball’s home run king, was indicted for perjury and obstruction of justice Thursday and could face prison instead of the Hall of Fame for telling a federal grand jury he did not knowingly use performance-enhancing drugs.

The indictment, culminating a four-year investigation into steroid use by elite athletes, charged Bonds with four counts of perjury and one of obstruction of justice. If convicted, he could be sentenced to a maximum of 30 years in prison.

Shortly after the indictment was handed up, Bonds’ personal trainer, Greg Anderson, was ordered released after spending most of the past year in prison for refusing to testify against his longtime friend.

Milwaukee’s new Police Chief is…

November 15th, 2007

The new Police Chief will be named today, feel free to use this as an open thread to comment

There is more than one way to stop an investigation

November 15th, 2007

The investigation of the latest pension scandal is being placed on hold while those with the most to hide try to curtail the scope of the investigation. So instead of the process moving forward, it is being successfully stalled.

County pension investigation stalls
Three months after Milwaukee County pension officials initiated a sweeping search for pension-system improprieties, the fledgling probe is grounded indefinitely.

The review, prompted by a Journal Sentinel investigation on improper pension “buybacks,” is not dead.

But the two former federal prosecutors from Chicago hired to head the probe have halted their work while the county and its Pension Board battle over the scope, timing and control of the investigation.

County officials apparently fear an open-ended investigation might hurt the county’s hopes for a large award or settlement in its pending federal lawsuit against its former actuary.

This summer, County Executive Scott Walker and County Board Chairman Lee Holloway heartily endorsed the open-ended and independent review approved by the Pension Board. Walker even talked of getting a year-end report from the investigators, and he raised the specter that criminal conduct might be involved in the granting of some buybacks. The full County Board also backed the investigation.

If they don’t get this right, the IRS will come in and do it for them… Maybe that is what should happen here.

Leaf raking notice

November 14th, 2007

Due to the large amounts of leaves still on the trees, Milwaukee has extended the time you can rake leaves into the street for pick-up until November 25.

Pedro Colon wants to fight crime, but how will he pay for it?

November 14th, 2007

State Rep. and City Attorney candidate Pedro Colon has issued a plan for getting the City Attorneys Office more involved in crime fighting. But it is basically the same thing that current City Attorney Grant Langley supports, but there is no money for the program. Colon doesn’t address the cost or where the money will come from… I guess you don’t have to deal with those realities before you are elected.

In the same press release, Colon addresses the issue of the City Attorneys Office handling things like repeat driving after revocation cases instead of the D.A. handling them as criminal cases. I fear that this is just another attempt to restore driving privileges to people to irresponsible to take care of their past commitments. This re-issuance of suspended drivers licenses is a stance held by many Milwaukee Liberal leaders that claim that this is some sort of racist plot… Yeah I know, it’s a load of crap.

Time for action

November 14th, 2007

This afternoon, the Milwaukee County Board will act on Scott Walker’s budget vetoes, so the time is short, but all Milwaukee County residents should call your County Board Supervisor this morning and tell them that they must sustain Scott Walkers fiscally responsible vetoes.

Update: Board overrides most of the vetoes
Brian Fraley has the gory details, but to sum it up, bend over Milwaukee taxpayers… INCOMING!

I’m sure you will be glad to know that Milwaukee County still have its very own fish hatchery.

Inappropriate and unprofessional behavior in MPS school

November 13th, 2007

This afternoon I was in Marshal High School on about 64th & Hope, and while I was waiting one of the MPS Security people was there with a group of students, they were all laughing and joking around, but I was surprised to hear the language from this adult when talking to the students, he used both the F-word and the N-word in the few seconds that I was there… I can’t imagine hearing anyone in my high school using that kind of language, it was totally unprofessional… Then to top it off, he told one of the students not to cuss.

We need to get us some ‘gators

November 13th, 2007

We need to get us some ‘gators!

A man who allegedly was fleeing police was attacked and killed by an alligator in a pond, Local 10 reported.

Miccosukee police, assisted by Sweetwater canine units, responded to a call on the Miccosukee Indian Reservation about vehicles being broken into.

Local 10’s Todd Tongen said police captured one man, but another fled on foot and dove into a retention pond. Signs warned of the danger of live alligators in the pond behind the casino and hotel.

Eyewitnesses said they were shouting to the man to swim back to shore. When the man finally spotted the alligator, eyewitnesses said he screamed but then disappeared under the water.

Wisconsin’s Laughingstock (yes, I mean Sheboygan) is at it again

November 13th, 2007

Now up in Sheboygan, an alderwoman that is a supporter of the thug mayor is trying to out-thug Perez by intimidating a fellow member of the Common Council that had the audacity to question Perez.

Political spat goes public
Ald. Bob Ryan claims he was threatened by Ald. Vicky Meyer
[Ald. Bob] Ryan said [Ald. Vicky] Meyer warned him — in comments he immediately wrote down — that he better “be careful with what you say because there are all kinds of rumors out there about you.” According to Ryan, Meyer then detailed several such rumors, including that Ryan drinks excessively; spent a week in a local hotel at the request of his wife; and ran for alderman against the wishes of his family, some of whom were concerned about whether he would have time for the family business if he were elected to the council.

What are you folks electing up there?

Retired MPD Detective Larry Powalisz is still making a difference for young people

November 13th, 2007

Larry Powalisz didn’t initially set out to write a children’s book after retirement from the Milwaukee Police Department, following nearly 30 years on the force. His “rise through the ranks” is truly a Milwaukee success story. He started as a patrol officer, a graduate of the Milwaukee Safety Academy in 1976; later, he was promoted to detective, with stints on the Tactical Enforcement Unit, the Robbery Task Force, and the Gang Crimes Unit, just to name a few of the challenges he accepted in his distinguished career. Powalisz also served for 20 years as a military special agent with the US Coast Guard Reserve.

Powalisz told me recently in a phone interview that he had plans to write a different sort of book after his retirement from MPD. “It would have been a collection of cop stories, written by retired cops”, Powalisz said. Then, while attending “Book Expo America” several years ago, Powalisz hit upon a different idea. He would combine recollections of family trips to Hawaii (one of his main characters, Aloha Jack, is actually modeled after a Hawaiian Shave Ice) with a positive message told to young readers through an adventure story. What took shape became The Island Treasure Hunt, the first in a series of books featuring Powalisz’ “Boyz of Aloha” characters, which Powalisz tells me proudly was “written in Waukesha County, with graphics created in Elm Grove, and printed in Menomonee Falls”. It is a book filled with colorful illustrations of Powalisz’ original characters, designed to appeal to the young reader, and an animated version of The Island Treasure Hunt is also in development.

Wasteful Spending at MPS

November 12th, 2007

On the 10:00 pm news tonight, Channel 4 will be airing what is promising to be a much talked about I-Team Report, in which they discover millions of dollars in travel expenses. This after another large tax increase, because they are just cut to the bone… Follow the above link for a video preview of the segment.

Ch. 4 is good about posting their video on their website, so I will add a link to it in the morning. I suspect that this story will get a lot of coverage on tomorrows talk shows as well.

UPDATE:
Here is the Channel 4 I-Team coverage, click the blue link for the video.

I-Team: On the Road with MPS

It would have been nice to see this report a week BEFORE the tax hike was implemented, instead of a week to late.
