This revelation hits close to home, as many BadgerBlogger.com readers and visitors interact with the key players involved on a regular, perhaps even daily, basis.
So, I’ll just throw this out there: Does Flynn survive this?

Yes, he survives, but loses some credibility. Besides Mayor loves him.

AHHHH!!! WTF!!
Just when you think that there’s some positve progress in the city, stuff like this happens.
I think this may be a case of electro – mechanical genitalia. An irresistable force that drew the two of them together. Yeah, that’s it.
It couldn’t be two supposedly intelligent people thinking this would be a good idea. Right?
Data driven my a$$

He survived it in his previous job, where it was widely understood that his $75,000/yr assistant, brought to Springfield with him, had more than a professional relationship with the Chief.
Flynn’s ethically challenged at every turn, but the rank-and-file and the mayor are big believers in him and so far he’s been found doing nothing directly illegal.
In short, he’s a small-time Bill Clinton. He makes you sick to your stomach even as things are running better than they did under the previous regime. And we know Clintons always survive.
Eventually he’s going to do to Milwaukee what he did to that reporter, but anyone with eyes and ears knew that when he was hired and this new revelation doesn’t change that.
Cranky
PS Go read the original profile now and try not to throw up. Especially when you think of the guy’s poor family.

McBride’s family counts, too.
He survives. She’ll find something to do.
June 19th, 2009 at 10:28 am
I just read the Bice story despite telling myself I wouldn’t. AHH!!! Printed emails? Even my dinosour ass knows that once it goes out on the internet, IT NEVER GOES AWAY!
Don’t type in an email, what you would not shout down a hallway.
Viva Viagra! AHHH!!
June 19th, 2009 at 10:35 am
I hope he survives it. Yes, his personal credibility takes a hit, but I think he’s done a good job at what he is being paid to do – reduce crime in Milwaukee.
June 19th, 2009 at 10:42 am
Of course McBride’s family counts too. There’s a huge sad trail behind both of these people.
I don’t know if he’s reduced crime in Milwaukee or pressured for creative reclassification of crimes. That was a frequent charge in his previous jobs.

Get ready to read (with great interest I hope) the 3 points below…
1) C’mon. Seriously? Chief Edward Flynn of Milwaukee is a man who has (supposedly) brought a values based system to the MPD and finally he’s been caught violating one of the most fundamental of those values – the sanctity of marriage. Everyone makes mistakes (including the married Jessica McBride Bucher), but what must also be realized is that some mistakes cannot go without impunity – especially when the violator holds such a position of power and influence. The Mayor should be ashamed also. He brought this snake oil salesman and his consulting cronies to our city and now (for obvious political reasons) is “standing by his police chief”. Rubbish. It’s high time for our city to be lead by leaders with VALUES and high moral standards rather than the silver-tongued MANAGERS that we currently possess.
__________
2) Chief Edward Flynn of the Milwaukee Police Department really needs to consider leaving. While it’s true that he possesses some talents he obviously lacks the moral courage to simply do the right thing. Too bad. He seemed to hold so much promise. Yet slowly, some insiders have been witnesses to what most have not, could not or would not – and that is an egotistical police manager (not leader) who has already clearly surrounded himself with YES people (as evidenced by a majority of his recommended promoted members) and quite frankly, he has comprised his entire office of women (I’ve been on his floor at the police headquarters). I’m sure many of us can’t wait to see what our hard earned money (tax dollars) will buy in terms of his in-coming (and lovely) Chief of Staff (Judy Pal – Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police Department in Savannah, Ga.). I’m sure it’s a necessity that she be a highly paid (new) city employee even in these times of (existing) employee furloughs. It’s time for us citizens of Milwaukee to wake up and hold our elected (and appointed/anointed) officials accountable!
_____________
3) Regarding Police Chief Edward (Ed) Flynn of Milwaukee and his ex-marital affair with reporter and lecturer Jessica McBride Bucher, I, as a tax paying citizen and concerned member of this community certainly hope that Milwaukee’s Fire & Police Commission pay much closer attention now and in the future to who they are told to hire as Chiefs (Fire and Police) and possibly even more importantly to whom they approve for promotion to positions of higher authority within those departments – as we will be “stuck” with those employees far longer than any Chief. Best of luck Commissioners!
P.S. – He probably will survive – se la vi…
June 19th, 2009 at 11:12 am
Flynn CAN survive, he won’t. There are posters here at B-B that have suggested that Flynn is using Milwaukee like he has used other cities.
I don’t necessarily disagree. He is not from here, he is not even from the midwest. He is like a ballplayer. He is playing for the team that paid him. Good ballplayers move along, bad ballplayers move along. Flynn has an ego. He cannot stay here long now.
Shame on both of these 2 “professionals”.
My 8 year old knows right from wrong. Apparently these 2 don’t.
June 19th, 2009 at 11:26 am
Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t Jessica McBride the “other woman” in the affair Paul Bucher had with his first wife? Seems like she just can’t keep her pants on.
June 19th, 2009 at 11:30 am
I guess she was slurping down on a little more than the Kool-Aid!
June 19th, 2009 at 1:27 pm
Flynn will survive. However, I think in light of the revelation, I question the addition of his new chief of staff. A look at the facts: 1)Allegations were made about his relationship with his former chief of staff in Springfield – a woman. 2). All his chiefs of staff in Milwaukee have been female. 3). His working relationship with the chief of staff is going to be inherently close. 4). The person being brought in is not unattractive.
Anyone seeing a pattern here?
The chief will insist that the relationship is and will be professional, but I would think he would want to avoid the hint of impropriety at a time like this.
June 19th, 2009 at 2:06 pm
Heinrich Flynnler survives, McBride doesn’t. Cherchez la femme
Apparently he has no friends to hurt, she has hurt plenty. My sympathies to all of them.
June 19th, 2009 at 2:41 pm
Wanna bet Sheriff Clarke won’t comment negatively about Flynn’s off-duty activity????
June 19th, 2009 at 2:58 pm
Milwaukee residents should be disappointed in Chief Flynn. He was brought here to make the city safer for residents and visitors, plus raise morale and professionalism in the MPD. That’s a full time, 24/7 job. Having time for an affair means he has taken his eye off the job and what it means to him and the city.
I am also disappointed in Jessica McBride. She has let down those who respected her for her blog and radio times, plus done wrong to her husband and their sweet young daughter.
June 19th, 2009 at 4:00 pm
I come to Milwaukee and I all I got was this lousy affair.
Shame on both of them and prayers for their families. McBride and Flynn has lost their creditability within the community and how do they ever get it back?
June 19th, 2009 at 5:33 pm
All Flynn has to do is keep the crime issue out of the paper so the Mayor can win his next election. He is an appointee, sadly it doesn’t matter if he is good, bad, moral or immoral. His wife should divorce him.
McBride should be fired. She is media though and probably won’t get fired. Her husband should divorce her.
How Milwaukee and the Magazine handle these situations will say a lot about them.
June 19th, 2009 at 6:07 pm
I got into this very argument today with my vietnam veteran barber… we had a vehement disagreement.
He claims that anyone over the age of 21 can do anything legal they want and it’s no one’s business.
I told him that if you choose to do stupid crap in your personal life, what makes you think they would refrain from doing it in their professional life ? (PAID FOR BY TAXPAYERS, AND ELECTED OR APPOINTED).
He then came up with a retarded argument about a hypothetical roofer working on his house doing his neighbor.
Too bad, I had hope for Flynn, he’s gonna slowly go down for this, as he probably should. When you place your standards to the level of saying “well he/she didn’t kill anyone” — you as a society are done.
Of course I’m not exonerating the media for them completely disregarding any “minority” discretions.. heaven forbid. If you’re a minority you walk on water cause you picked cotton or some such nonsense last week.
June 19th, 2009 at 7:51 pm
“Anyone seeing a pattern here?”
What?
That Ed Flynn has a very healthy sex drive?
June 19th, 2009 at 9:19 pm
Me thinks Flynn will take a self-imposed suspension without pay. The Barrett puppets at the Fire & Police Comm. will agree. What’s the big deal! Adultery is just a Class I felony. Asst. Chief Monica Ray will be in charge during his absence. With her in charge, she’ll make Milwaukee more Detroit-like, giving Flynn less off duty time to cavort when he returns, trying to undo what Ray did. I’d sure like to know who snitched on Flynn to Dan Bice and what the REAL motive was for doing that. If this expose continues and reaches back to Mass. (I think it will) & similar dirt is found there, Flynn could be a bye-bye-guy!
June 19th, 2009 at 9:28 pm
“milwhowie,”
Your “snitcher” was far more local in nature. You needn’t look outside state lines to find the angler you refer to.
Trust me. This was locally-generated motivation. Nothing more, nothing less.
June 19th, 2009 at 10:00 pm
I think “Teflon” Ed will survive, even though he will have to do a lot of damage control. Flynn is an excellent public speaker and can talk himself out of anything. We all saw his charisma during his swearing in ceremony at city hall and the words he uttered. These words are now coming back to haunt him…”What I expect in return from you is integrity, courage, competence, commitment,
compassion, restraint, and respect, for your department, yourself, each other and your
community. I expect you to be leaders. You are as responsible for the morale and
reputation of this department as I am. You must be the custodians of the honor of
policing. I not only expect you to refrain from misconduct, I expect you to prevent it. Too
often, we in the police are defined by our worst examples, not our best. Every act of
misconduct undermines respect for everyone who wears a badge and for the rule of law.”
Flynn is a ladies man and I have a feeling another shoe will drop in the near future. But even if Ed Flynn does not survive this headline, the people of Milwaukee should not fear that the police department will not self destruct. People within the police department know who the true chief is, the one who barks out all the policy changes and the one who is the brain child for the re-organization of the police department….it is none other then the person hired by Barrett….Robert Wasserman.
June 19th, 2009 at 10:42 pm
I don’t feel an ounce of pity for Jessica McBride or Ed Flynn, because ultimately their families are the victims in this.
And in regards to Chief Flynn’s behavior, I might be misinformed, but I thought I was told an extramarital affair violates some tenet of the professional conduct code in MPD.
June 20th, 2009 at 3:15 am
In The Steamy month of August 2003, Jessica Mcbride showed all of us how she was a media whore, assassinating the character of a decorated officer Michael Lutz. After taking the statements of known felons, and proven liars, and treating them as gospel, she twisted words to make Mike the enemy accusing him of shooting an unarmed man. She quoted Marvin Pratt as being critical of Mike for having numerous Use of Excessive Force Reports, a report that has never existed in The MPD. Mike had never been punished for excessive force.
In the end, Mike was exonerated, and the “media whore” had already done her damage, but got her story. Now her journalistic integrity has properly been called into question. She has shown that her journalistic integrity is greatly lacking, and her status as a “media whore”, may be taken to new levels. She should resign, and work in another field. In the words of Ted Knight, “The world need ditch diggers too.”
I take comfort in the fact that she was completed, and hope it was worth it. I pray for the families.
Oh yeah, and God Bless Mike Lutz. You owe him an apology beeaaattcch!

All the indignation!!! I’m shocked.
Maybe if Flynn had held a news conference on all stations at Prime Time and wagged his finger saying…
“Ahhh did not have sexual relations with that woman Mizz McBride”.
Then he lied about it before a Grand Jury and ht Fire and Police Commission….everything would be ok???
Please folks what standards do we have???
Let’s keep it simple. If it’s wrong, it’s always wrong. If it’s not wrong, then it’s not wrong.
I choose to call it WRONG.
June 20th, 2009 at 2:21 pm
Somebody that smart should have known to be a bit more discreet.
A classic case of do as I say and not as I do. Ladder climbers always step on hands and fingers on the way up. Then, when they get on top they get bored, arrogant, and the attitude that I can do what I want when I want or I’m gonna take my ball and bat and go home. Maybe a case of “bipolar” where I’m gonna fix things up, but it is going to be my way or the highway. Along with a case of hey, everybody look at me, and who can give me a better offer. Then again, police work done well is a single person’s job, cause you don’t always get done it eight hours and because crime does not take a holiday. I’d better stop, because I may end up contradicting myself. My point is that Flynn is doing a balancing act of some things good and, I think, more things bad.
June 20th, 2009 at 3:49 pm
It may be true Roscoe. I mean sending someones private e-mails to Dan Bice can be seen as indiscreet on a couple of levels. But can you please name me just a dozen or so people that Mr.Flynn or Ms.McBride stepped on on the way up?
I mean your post was chock full of facts.
And which laws did they break?
I believe that what they did is morally wrong and their behavior makes me sad for their families. But tell me Roscoe, which of your RULES did they break?? Or is this just more clap-trap political cheap shot nonsense.
I do not defend them for what they did, but spare us from the stepped on toes nonsense. If you have ill feelings toward Flynn or McBride just say so and enumerate what it is that they have done that you disagree with.
June 20th, 2009 at 3:54 pm
I can’t believe that a good looking, smooth talking cop cheated on his wife.
I can’t belive Jessica McBride slept with a cop.
I am in shock.
June 20th, 2009 at 3:57 pm
corbin sez: “I told him that if you choose to do stupid crap in your personal life, what makes you think they would refrain from doing it in their professional life ?”
Precisely.
It is simply a matter of judgment, and failing this test – what is really quite a simple test – then it is known there is most likely other capacities in which the judgment would be screwy.
Ya’all willing to take that risk?
June 20th, 2009 at 6:23 pm
Hey, I have an 8 year old too, Gus!
WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
June 20th, 2009 at 8:59 pm
Of course Flynn survives this. Heck, the mayor loves him so much I thought THOSE TWO were going to have an affair before long.
June 21st, 2009 at 3:01 pm
Short term I think he survives it. Long (relatively) term? It may make it just a bit harder to leap frog into his next job. Maybe if he brought an ethics expert on to his team of consultants…. Either way he’s at least a little tarnished by this.
As for Jess…I hadn’t remembered her role in the mudslinging against Lutz…in that case, she can turn slowly on hell’s rotisserie for all I care.
Is it true that Paul Bucher cheated on his previous wife with Jess? If it is, I’ve got no real sympathy for him either…just their kid. I have more tolerance for personal or private indiscretions unless children are part of the equation…when they are, people need to grow the hell up.

You can’t build good communities by screwing your neighbors one way or another.
This guy is a lying community wrecker, like Bill Clinton, how can anyone believe anything that comes out of his mouth. What motivates his decisions now?
When he says a neighborhood is good, what does that mean? Especially whens its a documented high crime area where you would be considered crazy to leave any doors unlocked and all buildings around you are boarded up!
