A Milwaukee Alderman is feeling the heat for sponsoring the Rental Property Inspection ordinance. The Remove Kovac Committee is being formed to explore the possibility of recalling Third District Alderman Nik Kovac from office.
We reported on this issue, which amounts to a back-door tax on renters.
At a time when Milwaukee is looking to cut fire fighters and furlough police officers, we should NOT be looking to hire more bureaucrats in an attempt to generate revenue for the city by sticking it to the taxpayers.

But that’s what the City of Milwaukee does: stick it to the taxpayer.
Cut the police (a furlough is a cut), so that the taxpayer doesn’t see the police because the police are responding to the non-taxpayer who refuses to solve his or her own problem. Call a tax a “fee,” which is not voluntary, so the taxpayer can’t claim the property tax on his federal tax. Tax the landlord (while ignoring slumlords like Lee Holloway), under the charade of taking care of the renter who will soon see his rent raised. Benefits so some city worker can take care of his boyfriend. Stick it to the small business owner, forcing them to provide benefits for their employees in addition to the agreed upon rate of pay.
Why are we losing jobs? The city and the state appears mismanaged.
