Most of Courthouse custodial staff calls in sick

19 of the 25 county custodial workers called in sick today in an obvious job action… I’d mail their last check to their home address.

Sorry Patrick – It’s a public employee union. They have snortin’ rights!

Just makes the case for more privatization, doesn’t it?!

  2. PCD Says:

Reagan fired the Patco strikers, these janitors are no different.

Maybe they volunteered at a nursing home or homeless shelter? …hahahaha

  4. Pancho Villa Says:

I don’t blame them. If I was in their shoes I would have called in sick also. They are most likely going to get screwed out of all their earned sick time so they are better off burning it all before they get fired.

Wait a minute…you mean that place is cleaned by “professionals?”…WOW!! From the looks of it, I thought they did away with cleaning all together.

This mentality, in this economic time, is really kinda funny. Talk to the private folks who are out of jobs completely after busting their butts. Talk to the employers who had to let them go. I don’t think you’ll find much sympathy for the GOVERNMENT UNION WORKERS.

One thing to add…I spent a work related day down there recently…about 8 hours worth. I saw one custodian walking the halls constantly with a cell phone embedded in his ear and other times texting. Two times I saw the guy with a bag of garbage and maybe a spray bottle. Those times he was pretending to work. Would like to see the accomplishments for him that day!!

Public building janitors are great at appearing down-trodden and over-worked. When the manager is done microwaving his burrito in his office, he’ll get right on them.

  8. Albigensian Says:

Perhaps the real reason why they fear privatization is because they know that a private contractor could (and probably will) get the job done with half as many employees??

Since you’ve interviewed Scott Walker in the past, tell him I’ll work for Milwaukee County at the 35-hour work week, pay into my retirement and health insurance, and not call in sick all the time.

I need a job and I’d be grateful to have one as decent as working for the County…

I couldn’t even get a $12/hour tech job with a master’s degree in engineering when I was unemployed.

I won’t go so far as to say Milwaukee is a shit hole. It does have some sections that could fit that bill, but it does have some things going for it…just not the public schools, efficiency of government, integrity of most public officials, job market, business climate, etc…

But we do have a nifty hunk of orange iron at the East end of Wisconsin Avenue!!
