I have been following this story on the news since these boys disappeared just a few blocks from my home. If you don’t know the story, an 11 and a 12 year old boy were playing basketball at a local park. When they didn’t come home, police were called. Neither boy has ever been in trouble or has ever run away, but it has been over 48 hours now with no sign at all, and police say it is really unusual for 11 and 12 years old runaways to be gone without a trace for so long.
JS Online:Search for missing boys intensifies
The search for two boys, missing for more than 48 hours, continues to intensify, Milwaukee police said this afternoon.Several other agencies have joined the search for Purvis Virginia Parker, 11, and Quadrevion Henning, 12, who were last seen near their homes in the 4900 block of N. 53rd St. at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, said Anne E. Schwartz, department spokeswoman.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, the Department of Natural Resources, Oak Creek Police Department and Milwaukee police auxiliaries were assisting dozens of Milwaukee police officers in the search for the boys, she said.
The boys were supposed to be playing basketball at a playground near their house, but never came home, their families said. The boys live three blocks apart and have been close friends since summer.
This has to be terrifying to the families involved and other parents with children in this area. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of Purvis Virginia Parker and Quadrevion Henning.
I hesitate to post this next part, but it is something that has to be kept in mind as awful as it is to think about. The map below comes from MapSexOffenders.com, the blue spot is the approximate location where the boys were last seen, the red spots are known registered offenders. It makers me shudder to think about having a missing child in Milwaukee.

NOTE: News reports now say that Police have searched the homes of all sexual offenders in the area.
Listen to the press conference held by Police Chief Hegerty.

Confirmed: Police have searched the homes of registered sexual offenders in the area.
Also, police are dragging McGovern Park’s lagoon just to make sure, they have no evidence pointing there, it is just a precaution.

News choppers are hovering over my neighborhood as police search McGovern Park and Havenwoods. It’s a depressing sound knowing that there has been no sign at all of these two boys.

I Am The Force is also covering this and Brian Fraley has has talked about it on the radio the past two days as he sits in for the Early Spinners, as have most of the talk shows.

A Child Is Missing, a group out of Florida is helping by calling all phone numbers within a mile of where the boys were last seen and playing a recorded message. Also the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and America’s Most Wanted have both put the boys pictures on their websites.

John Mercure notes that police are getting NO calls at all, which is really unusual in cases like this.

We’re 5 miles to the south-southeast. I’ve seen the flyers around this area in the course of errands here.

I have comments and the audio of the latest police statement in which they say that they have information that leads them to believe that someone has information but has not come forward with it yet. That post can be found here

I live in Alabama, and i heard of the missing boys on the news, it is sad that these boys have gotten hardly any news coverage about this, but they stay talking about Natalee Holloway, I guess when white people are missing its a big story, but hardly any blacks get news coverage, and its sad.
My heart goes out to all the families, and i will keep your little boys in my prayers.

Thanks for the interest Lateefah, I agree, it is a same that people can’t get equal coverage, we call it Missing White Woman’s Syndrome, and I have talked about it a few times in the past.
Now, I think prayers are all that will help these boys. The searchers aren’t giving up, but it is harder and harder each day.

I too think it’s terrible and wrong that these two young boys have gotten NO coverage. It’s bad when you have to search the web for information on these two. We are praying for their safety in Bloomington Indiana.

They are getting some national coverage, not close to people like that girl in Aruba, but they get some. CNN was here early, and America’s Most wanted gave them a mention, I believe it was 2 weeks ago, and I understand that they will be featured on tonight’s AMW as well.
It has been huge locally, although, there is little anyone can do at this point, there is just no clues, police are still dedicating huge amounts of resources to the case, but there just is no new information.
Also, today, they are holding a benefit concert at The Riverside Theater and proceeds will go to the reward fund that is well over $60,000.

I would like to know why the Amber Alert was not in place at the time these two children disappeared. It is a sad day when you have to search online and hear virtually nothing on the news channels regarding they’re disappearance.
April 15th, 2006 at 11:05 am
No Amber Alert was called because they didn’t have the needed criterial to call it – a suspect and a license plate number.
I have been following this case daily, and I’m from Michigan, so it had been reaching outside news medias.
