The Wisconsin Attorney Generals office made arguments before the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, the state won the case. But in a very unusual move all three judges blasted Peg Lautenschlager and the Wisconsin DOJ for the quality of the legal work, the irresponsible arguments that were made in it and the lack of respect shown for the Supreme Court of the United States.

The attorney for the state made a number of arguments, including commenting on a Supreme Court ruling on a completely unrelated case, and he also went on an anti-war rant

Mark Belling has more details in his coverage here.

Channel3000.com: Appeals Court Blasts Lautenschlager, Aide For ‘Bizarre’ Argument
A federal appeals court Friday blasted Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager and an aide, calling arguments they made in a case “entirely out of line.”

The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago said a legal brief signed by Lautenschlager and Assistant Attorney General Richard Moriarty defending the state in an employee lawsuit was at times “bizarre” and “disrespectful.”

The court judges urged the state to adopt a more appropriate tone in future briefs filed with the 7th Circuit.

The admonishment came as Lautenschlager, a Democrat, is seeking a second-term as Wisconsin’s top law enforcement official. A key role in the job is defending the state against lawsuits.

Lautenschlager spokesman Mike Bauer said the attorney general’s name goes on briefs drafted by other attorneys. Moriarty’s voice mail Friday said he was out of the office.

This woman is an embarrassment and must go!

You forgot to mention she is also a drunk ;P I for one am going to miss Peg the Keg when she is thrown out of office.

Chris, that would explain why she doesn’t read the Appeals Court briefs before she signs them… unless of course, she also believed in everything that DOJ flunky said to the 7th Circuit ;-)

While some can’t stop their blind GOP following, some facts about the GOP Atty Gen candidates clearly define what the GOP has to offer.
And what they offer is far less than expected than the lawyers who are ambulance chasers.
The State Ethics Board lambasted Van Hollen for filing frivilous lawsuits which were overturned unanimously!
But that didn’t stp Van Hollen from playing the blame game…
“It is logic-defying, incumbent-protecting decisions like this that have led many, including myself, to call for the dissolution of the Ethics Board and the creation of a new entity to monitor elections and elected officials. ” -Van Hollen.

This did not sit well with the Ethics Board, who replied:
“It is disturbing that a candidate for attorney general, in order to jockey for a political advantage, would want a government agency to ignore the facts and misapply the law.”

A Democrat complaining about Republican’s ethics in Wisconsin… especially with a Democratic A.G. like Peg the Keg… Does anyone else have a hard time reading Joe’s comment without laughing out loud?
