This morning on The Early Spin, there was quite a bit of talk of Rep Frank Lesee’s proposal that would allow well trained teachers and school staff to carry a gun in school. Every time to topic came up, you could hear Nicole Devin’s voice going higher and faster, and by the time they actually spoke to Frank Lesee, I had this mental image of Nicole with her hands pressed against her ears, her eyes rolling in her head and she ran around the studio screeching “All Guns Are Bad! All Guns Are Bad! All Guns Are Bad!…”

You can listen to the Early Spin as they are joined by Frank Lasee.

Two Rivers, WI –Manitowc County Supervisor Robert Dobbs was appalled by the press release from Representative Frank Lasee concerning the introduction of legislation allowing teachers and staff in our schools to carry a concealed weapons.

Supervisor Dobbs stated “Representive Lasee has clearly shown his disregard for the recent school shooting events in the United States and further has demonstrated his lack of concern for this issue by stating we should allow concealed weapons in schools. No weapon of any kind should be allowed in our schools and further more, legislation to severely punish those who do bring weapons within our school boundaries should be pursued instead.”

Representative Lasee mentioned the schools in Thailand but he has clearly forgotten the recent military coup in this country and the suspension of civilian authority, implementation of martial law, and suspension of civil rights under the current military dictatorship.

Supervisor Dobbs further stated “Representive Lasee now is showing his true colors with a lack of competition in this fall’s election. Representative Lasee is truly out of touch with his district and needs to leave office if these statements are his true beliefs. Representative Lasee demonstrates with these statements of intent to introduce legislation his total disregard for the safety of our children in our schools. I cannot fathom that any school principal, administrator, teacher, or other staff personnel would allow themselves to carry concealed weapons into a school. The safety and security of our schools must be paramount without the introduction of weapons in schools. We cannot allow vigilantism to pervail over the rule of law and I cannot see any member of law enforcement agreeing with this.

    TR’s Dobbs to challenge Lasee

Calls gun proposal for schools ‘idiotic’

TWO RIVERS — Manitowoc County Supervisor Robert Dobbs calls Rep. Frank Lasee’s proposal to allow school staff to carry weapons “idiotic.”

On Thursday, Dobbs, 38, of Two Rivers, announced he would run as a Republican write-in candidate in the Nov. 7 general election against Lasee, R-Bellevue, for the 2nd Assembly District, which includes Two Rivers, Mishicot and the town of Franklin. There are no other candidates for the seat.

“Frank has gone over the top this time,” Dobbs said. “You don’t put guns in schools. You train teachers, administrators and counselors to deal with problem students.”

State Sen. Alan Lasee, R-De Pere, a distant cousin of Frank Lasee, said he adamantly opposes the proposal.

“Let me be perfectly clear, as long as I am the Senate president, this proposal will not see the light of day in the state Senate,” Alan Lasee said. “This proposal is nothing more than a poorly thought out, knee-jerk reaction to the tragic events of the last few weeks. Even though Representative Lasee and I share the same last name, we do not share the same ideas.”

School shootings have become frequent in recent weeks in the United States.

Last week, a disgruntled student killed a high school principal in Cazenovia.

Earlier this week, an Amish schoolhouse was attacked in rural Pennsylvania. Five girls were killed.

Last month, three Green Bay teens were arrested after allegedly plotting to attack Green Bay East High School.

In Colorado in mid-September, a teen was killed after a gunman stormed the school and held several students hostage.

Frank Lasee on Wednesday said he would propose legislation early next year that will allow school staff to carry guns. He said armed staff will dissuade attacks at schools.

“I know this is a controversial proposal,” Frank Lasee said Thursday. “I think it will take some time for people to warm up to this. I think we’re, unfortunately, going to see other violent acts in our schools.”

Dobbs said instead of arming teachers, problem students should be removed from schools and districts should invest in police liaison programs that provide officers in schools.

Dobbs said there are other issues he wants to challenge Frank Lasee on, including the state budget and the gasoline sales tax.

“We have to look at a lot of the fiscal issues,” Dobbs said. “While other states’ gas prices are dropping, our are staying high because we have one of the highest gas sales taxes in the country.”

Dobbs said he’s also tired of Frank Lasee, “putting Wisconsin down.”

“There’s a lot of really good things happening here,” Dobbs said.

Frank Lasee had no comment on Dobbs’ write-in bid.

Dobbs is in his fourth two-year term as county board supervisor. He previously served two years on the Two Rivers Common Council.

On Thursday, Dobbs faxed and mailed a letter to the state elections board in Madison announcing his intent to run. With just more than one month before the general election, Dobbs said he plans on meeting as many residents in the district he can.

“I want the people to have a choice,” Dobbs said. “Rep. Lasee now is showing his true colors with a lack of competition in this fall’s election. Rep. Lasee is out of touch and doesn’t listen to the people in his district.”

Frank Lasee, 44, was elected to the Assembly in 1994 and has been re-elected since 1996.

Despite criticism of the proposal from legislators and the public, Frank Lasee said he still supports his proposal to allow school staff to carry guns.

“I think this a reasonable proposal for the decent people of the Midwest,” he said. “I believe it can be done safely.”

Oh look, an anti gun nut moonbat liberal is using my blog to get out his press releases now. Hey Mr. Dobbs, what would have happened if the teacher in the Pennsylvania school would have pulled a gun and shot the murderer of 5 little girls, would you have been angry?

Or how about in Colorado where a man kidnaped and sexually assaulted several girls and murdered one, what if the principal would have had a gun and stopped him before he harmed them? Would you be indignant?

Or let’s say that kid in Green Bay didn’t tell anyone about what those kids were planning to do in school and they would have carried out their plans to shoot up the school, and what if there had been a gym teacher that seen them before they started and would have pulled his own gun to hold those punks until police arrived? Would you want to lock him up because all guns are evil?

And what if Weston Schools Principal John Klang would have been able to draw a gun and hold Eric Hainstock, instead of having to physically wrestle with him to get the gun away? That brave man would be alive today, but I guess people like you would want to crucify him…

It is moron anti-gun nuts like you that don’t realize that a gun is nothing more than a tool, it is the person in control that decides what to do with that tool.
