The day before the election, the Milwaukee County Board passed a 3.6% tax increase on it’s citizens, this is on top of the 5% hike from MATC and 7.7% tax hike from MPS… I sure am glad that Doyle passed that tax freeze. They passed this hike when they did, during the flurry of the election coverage, in an attempt to sneak this past us under the radar.
In speaking with County Executive Scott Walker last night, we discussed what we need to do to uphold the upcoming Walker vetoes that he will be announcing next week. The tax increase was passed with a veto proof majority, so to uphold a veto, we need to change the votes of two tax raising supervisors.
Scott expressed how important it is for Milwaukee voters to contact their County Board Supervisor, especially those that have in the past, shown that they supported responsible government restraint in the past, most notably Lynne De Bruin, who really surprised me when I seen her name on the list of those that voted to increase your taxes, and the disappointing Ryan McCue, who was actually elected in the wake of the Tom Ament scandal that lead to several recalls. If you live in their districts, you MUST contact them and tell them that you demand that they change their stance and uphold the upcoming Walker vetoes.
So if Milwaukee taxpayers want to curb our tax bill, you MUST contact your supervisors! Here is a list, with links, to all of the supervisors that voted to increase your taxes. Each page has contact links, so make your phone calls! If you don’t know who your county supervisor is, you can enter your address on this page and it will tell you how to contact your representatives.
