I am happy to see that the local Milwaukee media is picking up on the story broken here, of the inappropriate comments made by Alderman Michael McGee / Jackson Jr. The comments were made while speaking of his political opponents working to recall him from office, and the most inflammatory of which was directed at former school board member and mayoral candidate and long time leader in Milwaukee’s black community, Leon Todd. McGee said that Leon Todd “needs to be hung… Straight up, for his betrayal of the community.â€
Listen to the McGee commentsOther bloggers and talk radio hosts Mark Belling, Charlie Sykes and Jessica McBride had picked up on this from the beginning, and now the MSM (main stream media) is picking up on it too. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has articles on it today, one from the All Politics blog from yesterday afternoon, and a column from Greg Borowski, “McGee under fire for criticism“. This column includes comments from both ViAnna Jordan and Leon Todd.
Tim Cuprisin, the papers radio & TV reporter also comments, “McGee show’s bombs make smaller blasts.” Cuprisin talks more about the comparative size of the McGee audience compared to the other big talk radio shows. But if anyone thinks that the size of the audience decides what is and is not news, then Michael Richards, the guy that played Kramer, going off on his racist rant in a small comedy club with maybe a few dozen people present made national news for days, why wouldn’t this sort of thing from an elected official be local news?
As far as coverage from Eugene Kane? Well, he’s trying to sit this one out, but he logs into his blog long enough to say move on, there is nothing to see here, it’s just some Conservatives with “silly manufactured controversies about political incorrectness aren’t worth our time.”
TV news is picking up on the story as well, WTMJ, Chanel 4 news had coverage, including the use of the audio, and you can view their coverage here.
