My best friend just died. Bud, who was born on my birthday 7 years ago was sick for the past day, I was going to take him to the vet tomorrow morning to have him checked out because he was just laying around instead of driving me crazy with his tennis balls.
This evening when I got home, we went outside, something he usually loves to do, but all he did was lay down. After a while we came back into the house, he laid down next to me, I heard him take a deep breath and he was gone…
Good night Mr. Bud

Hey Patrick, I’m sorry about your loss. That is beautiful picture.
My sisters Westie, turns 14 today. My nephew is taking him to McDonalds for some HASH BROWNS.
Dogs are beautiful intelligent warm beasts. Unfortunately I’m allergic.
God bless.

So sorry Patrick. Our pets are like family and a loss is deeply felt and mourned. What a wonderful companion you had – I know how much you will miss him.

My condolences Patrick. The loss of a loyal companion is extremely difficult. Hang in there.

Patrick:
As a guy that calls his pet “my little girl” and who has nursed her through two bouts of deadly anemia and now congestive heart failure. My wife and I have spent days crying over her diseases.
Fortunately, we’ve had the ability to have her treated by the great vets at Wisconsin Veterinary Referral Hospital and she’s still with us.
I dread the day that the time will come. The hole in our lives will be enormous.
I’m sure that tonight you will experience sadness that you may not have ever felt. It won’t pass for a long time.
Know that people are thinking about you.

The sentence that I failed to finish in the first paragraph ends with “allows me to say that I understand your pain and feelings tonight and you have my best wishes.”

I’m sorry, man. I dread the day I lose my dog.
On the other hand, I’ve got a couple of cats I could lend you…if you think they might make you feel better.

Pat,
Condolences. I don’t have a dog but I live with one, if he died I would be sad. They can be so nice to come home to.
Sorry for your loss.

Condolences Patrick….Not a day goes by that I don’t look at my Jack Russell and some times take her for granted as she bounces off the walls, but I love her like she was my daughter….she’s gotten me through some rough times……
And she came to me via TWO Human Society shelters….can you believe that? Two states later and she’s got a home…..and I’m not giving her up for nothing….thought I was a month ago…but not anymore…..
My thoughts are with you…pets DO grow on people more than we tend to realize….

That is sad. I’m sorry for your loss. I’m glad he died next to someone he loved.

I’m so sorry. I know how hard it is… but at least he went peacefully.
March 13th, 2007 at 9:00 pm
My condolences. Dogs are often better people than most people and it can be tough when they leave us.
March 13th, 2007 at 9:05 pm
Wow, thanks everyone. Many non-pet owners don’t understand how thoroughly these hairballs entwine themselves into your life.
I am glad it happened while I was here, at least he wasn’t alone. I am of course kicking myself for not getting him to the vet tonight…

I’m so sorry, Patrick.
March 13th, 2007 at 9:13 pm
Just damn.
I remember when my sister had to put Rocky to sleep because his hips just went so far he couldn’t even get up anymore. It’s tough.
March 13th, 2007 at 9:14 pm
Don’t feel guilty…you couldn’t have known what was wrong was so serious. Be thankful for the wonderful, special time you had with him.He sounds like he was a great friend, so take care.

As someone who has lost several very good four legged friends/children over the years, my heart hurts for you. Be strong.

We all have fond stories of our furry friends. Just ask and we’ll give stories.

I’m so sorry for your loss…I was just thinking the other day how much I take my two golden retrievers for granted. They are so forgiving and ask so little…
I’m glad he was next to his buddy when he went.

My husband and I lost our black lab, Spooky, last October. She was 14 years old and even though we knew she wouldn’t be with us much longer, it was still very difficult when it happened. Take care…
March 14th, 2007 at 7:48 am
Sorry to hear it.
March 14th, 2007 at 8:21 am
Patrick, my heart sank when I read this. My thoughts are with you.

I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your special friend. A few months back, my parents had to have their cat, the cat that they had since I was 10 years old, put to sleep. Even though she was 19 and had health issues, it was still a very big loss. Pets can bring so much joy into our lives. They become like your children (quite frankly,I think we should be able to claim them as dependents on our taxes!). My thoughts and prayers go out to you.

Sorry for your loss. My goldens are 11 and 7 and I dread the day when they’ll be gone.

RAINBOW BRIDGE
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

I just want to take a second and thank you all again, your sentiments are very appreciated. You are all awesome! You even made my mother cry reading the comments you have left behind.
GoPackers, I read the “Rainbow Bridge” some time back, it is very moving,I couldn’t read it again today but I will enjoy its meaning and comfort in a day or so. Thank you, and thank you all!

Sorry for your loss. That’s a great picture of him. I bet you’ll have a lot of good memories.
March 15th, 2007 at 8:23 am
My sympathies, Patrick. It is always tough to lose a pet, especially suddenly like that. At least his passing was peaceful and comfortable next to his best human pal.

I’m sorry for your loss.
It might be premature, but when you are ready to adopt again, drop me an email if you want a rescue dog. I can set you up with a breed rescue organization for just about any breed.
All my best to you.

Patrick, I am so sorry for your loss. After what seems like the shortest 10 years, I had to put my dog, Durango, to sleep last Thursday. I really miss my “little man” and waking up in the morning or arriving back home after work just isn’t the same. The only thing that makes it bearable is knowing that he is in a better place where he can once again run and play like he did so long ago with me. My deepest condolences go out to you and everyone touched by Bud’s life.
March 15th, 2007 at 3:35 pm
Wow, so sorry my friend. I dread the day Mrs RDW and I lose our pooch, Licorice.
My sincere sympathies.
