I hope this doesn’t get to confusing, I want to use this post to merge two other posts from earlier today, first was the post about the two murders that happened during a violent night that seen at least 6 shooting. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the innocent 4 year old girl that was gunned down as a thug shot her while trying to murder someone else. The second post that I want to include in this was the Mayor finally labeling thugs, thugs. This original post also dealt with the murder of young Jasmine “Juicy” Owens.

First of all, I think that the placement in the paper of all of this violence is telling. We have become so desensitized by all of the shootings, that even the murder of a child couldn’t break the front page, this story was buried on page 3. During a press conference scheduled to announce a new plan to crackdown on violent crime, Mayor Tom Barrett had this comment.

“Some gutless thug decided he would solve his problem by shooting a 4-year-old girl. What a tough guy. He can brag about that to all of his buddies that he took out a 4-year-old girl.”

Good lip service Mayor, but you have shown time and time again that you are unable, or unwilling to do what needs to be done to actually combat this sort of crime.

Another person that has always offered talk, but has never really supported the tough policing needed to combat these thugs, is Alderman Willie Hines. In a press statement issued today, he had this to say.

My heart goes out to the family of the four-year-old girl who was fatally shot as she sat outside her home on the 2800 block of N. 29th Street. This tragedy occurred in the 15th District, which I represent. It occurred in a neighborhood that I know intimately. How we got to this point is perhaps a matter of opinion, but the action we must take is not. There is a time to build community and there is a time to strike with decisive force. When fouryear- old girls are gunned down as they sit on their front stoop, we are well past the point of relying merely on our own grassroots community-building initiatives. We must strike fear in the hearts of criminals. We must put aside all differences and focus the full brunt of our police resources on making our streets safe once again. I implore citizens of Milwaukee and the 15th District to collaborate with police officers, especially those from the Fifth District. And I implore the Milwaukee Police Department to seek out innovative partnerships with concerned citizens, clergy and commercial entities.

If any individual has any information pertaining to the murder of the young child on 29th Street, please contact law enforcement representatives at the Fifth District Police Station: (414) 935-7252. Citizens can report anonymously.

I pray to God that he means it this time and is willing to support “the full brunt of our police resources on making our streets safe once again.” But Alderman Hines has a reputation for talking a good game, then failing to support the police trying to do their thankless job. Remember when Captain Frankovis, a proven crime fighter with a proven track record, who, after one of his cops was threatened by the thugs and was transfered out by Hegerty, Hines was one of his most vocal critics. Let us hope that this tragic death of a child has Alderman Hines ready to put his money where his mouth is.

We must strike fear in the hearts of criminals. We must put aside all differences and focus the full brunt of our police resources on making our streets safe once again.

The really frustrating thing is, after every particularly heinous crime like this, we get politicians posing for holy pictures and talking tough, then organizing a march through the neighborhood, and a week later it is all but forgotten.

Milwaukee needs tough policing, just like Hines called for, but we need to realize that this is not a short term thing, we need to hit the thugs where it hurts and keep at it. Maybe a good way that the Milwaukee Common Council could show their support for the police is to revisit the anti-loitering ordinance that they didn’t have the guts to enact last year. This would give our officers another tool that they can use in combating the thugs that have taken over our streets.

Getting back to Chief Hegerty’s plan, she filled us in today on her proactive policing, the sort of things that Captain Frankovis proved worked, the sorts of things that Alderman Bob Donovan, Sheriff David Clarke and retired MPD Captain Glenn Frankovis proposed a few months ago, and were immediately told by the chief, that she was already doing those things. The next thing you know, she will call for the National Guard and claim that it was he plan all along.

That didn’t take long, local NAACP president, Jerry Ann Hamilton is already questioning the new policy, while they support an increased police presence, they fear racial profiling. The police don’t need to racial profile, they need to THUG PROFILE!

  2. Peter Says:

Figures the NAALCP — National Association for the Advancement of (Liberal) Colored People — would side with the thugs.

Police Chief Glenn Frankovis sounds better and better every day.

  3. John Says:

Why do we need racial profiling? It is not like people from one race are committing overwhelming number of crimes?

  4. Vern Says:

Look, all the whining we do will mean nothing unless the people who actually live in these areas band together and show their outrage. Moaning and groaning from people who live in safe areas of Milwaukee and the suburbs means little to these people.

  5. HeatherRadish Says:

    Meanwhile….no snitching!

A 26-year-old man on the sidewalk near Jasmine was wounded in the leg; police said he appeared to be the intended target of Monday night’s attack. The man was treated at a hospital and taken into police custody on charges of obstructing an officer. Investigators suspect the man, who they do not believe had any connection to Jasmine, may have been in an altercation with riders in the SUV before the shooting.

However, he was refusing to help investigators, and no further arrests had been made as of late Tuesday.

Police should release the man’s name and address so the “community leaders” can go do some investigating of their own.

  6. mickey Says:

When he drove by and “capped” the precious little 4 year old, it’s a damn good thing he wasn’t speeding, because if he was speeding Michael McGee Jackson (I’m going to kill yo azz) Jr. would have “Bricked” him.

  7. Glenn D. Frankovis Says:

I hope this works out for the sake of the good people, but don’t make the mistake of equating Hegerty’s plan with what I was doing as Captain of District #5 and #3. Not enough room in this forum to explain, but anyone who has studied war can tell you the difference between “saturation bombing” and “laser guided bombing”. Surgical precision makes a world of difference. And remember, violent crime occurs throughout the year – not just Memorial Day to Labor Day.

  8. mickey Says:

Heather, his name would be released only if he turned in MUSLIM TERRORISTS.
I should add that his arrest is public record.

  9. mike Says:

The Milw. crime situation has gone on far too long and the current Police dept is caught in a situation of being so politically correct that they can’t even be effective. How pitiful.

The Mayor finally “talks” tough even uses the “thug” word, oh my! Well Milw. residents you get what you voted for.

Who would want to even work for that Police Dept? Look at how they treat their own Police officers.

Then read the ridiculous statement the NAACP made about fear of racial profiling, in an area that must be over 95% black. Who else would be the expected perp?

Milw. residents trust my words and do EVERYTHING you can to move away from the City of Milwaukee. I saw the writing on the wall and left 20 years ago and am happy I did. It sure has gotten exponentially worse. Until the Milw. resident vote in the people that can cure this problem it will continue downhill.

  10. mickey Says:

It appears that the murdering “thugs” have been racially profiling for years.

  11. Patrick Says:

Guess which Alderman thinks that more police in high crime neighborhoods is a bad idea?

    Yep, that’s the one.

  12. mickey Says:

Let me guess, it’s not Bob Donovan??

  13. Shelly Lambert Says:

Is it the one who “is the only person actually ‘pounding the payment” trying to make a difference”?

  14. mickey Says:

Yeah, is it Mr. No Snitching???

  15. profiling_by_gender Says:

The common theme in 98% of all of these crimes is….(let’s see if you object to my non-politically correct revelation) that most of the perpetrators/thugs are MALE. Yes, until women stand up and demand change and demand that something be done about this, nothing will change. However, most people wish to be “politically correct” and ignore this or protest that this is horrible to even suggest. But the facts are there. Do we wish to ignore it or change it? are you liberal minded p.c. babies or true conservatives?

  16. Roland Melnick Says:

Two “leaders” of the black community, Jerry Ann Hamilton (NAACP President-Milwaukee Chapter) and Alderman Michael Jackson-McGee have made it known that their main concern is that the MPD will be violating people’s rights.

Yes, that’s right. Police harrassment is #1. What about Jasmine Owens’ right to live? Where were you on that? I know, I know…it’s all whitey’s fault.

These so-called “leaders” are frauds. McGee has his “Rapid Response Team” out there to respond to someone’s call that the police are harrassing them. Oh sure, he claims his RRT will be on the lookout for “activities by people who may be on the other side of the law.” I’ll hold judgement until the Summer Initiative is over. BUT, my prediction is I will be able to count how many times the RRT HELP the police on one hand by summer’s end.

McGee doesn’t want a troop surge in his district, fine…..send em to my hood. I’ll put a pot of coffee on for them.

  17. Roland Melnick Says:

In reading McGee’s press release, he says the $2.2 million budgeted for police overtime would be better spent on helping 88,000 people looking for jobs.

Well, to employ people for 3 months this summer, assuming 22 days per month, 8 hours a day…that equals 528 work hours per person. At $10/hour, we could employ 416 people full-time this summer, with some change leftover for a Labor Day pizza party. Unfortunately, 416 is a far cry from 88,000. Unless he would rather cut a check for $25 for each jobless person.

Again, another example of a critic posing as a leader.

  18. Peter Says:

    Roland,
My preference would be to wall off Junior McGee’s district and let ‘em kill each other off. His RRT will do nothing to chase claims of police harassment.

And it isn’t my responsibility to help bums on welfare, crackheads and gangbangers look for legitimate employment. Because they don’t want it anyway.

And what jobs are going to be moved into that upholstered toilet, with all that crime?

  19. Roland Melnick Says:

Peter…I was illustrating the absurdity of McGee’s comments, not endorsing them. Your other comments are kinda harsh, but the fact is that they ARE killing each other (or trying to) every day…I won’t argue there.

  20. Peter Says:

    Roland,
I know you weren’t endorsing them. Illustrating absurdity by being absurd is good skill.

  21. Roland Melnick Says:

    Oh…ok….I’m good at that ;)

  22. Deep Cover Says:

Jobs for thugs? This is a common theme that comes up everytime we have another horrendous crime. HELLO! These thugs are making more money working the streets then an experienced welder makes with overtime. They DO NOT WANT JOBS! My job is to help people get employed and I can tell you not many street thugs come in for employment. Also the folks who do want jobs and who are holding their MPS diploma aren’t going to get jobs because they can not read and write.Think I’m kidding? We test people in BASIC SKILLS and most do not attain a 3rd grade math or 4th grade reading. Some are lower. And if you want Barrett to take over the MPS schools, look at the pitiful task force he has assembled for economic development and workforce- all old has-been administrators who wouldn’t know a work program from their hind end. This city is screwed. Clark should look good to anyone who wants to save Brew Town.
