Thanks to Brian Fraley, we learned of the attempt by the County Board to slip a pay hike through with no one noticing. Now we learn that city officials are gearing up for their own pay hike.

The mayors pay would leap from $143,883 a year now to $147,366 in May, and to $161,525 in 2011, and the pay of alderman in Milwaukee would go from $71,506 now to $73,237 after the election and to $80,274 by 2011.

Has life in the city of Milwaukee improved over the past few years to warrant these pay increases? Violence rules our streets while these “leaders” sit on their hands… and they want a 12.3% pay hike over the next four years? I say no… Hell No! They haven’t done anything to earn a raise!

I am sick and tired of watching underworked and overpaid politicians that do nothing but collect paychecks getting these types of annual pay hikes while we, the taxpayers keep getting shafted deeper and deeper each year.

It is time for City of Milwaukee taxpayers to call your Alderman and tell them that until they improve life in Milwaukee, they don’t deserve a pay raise!

Well, ya know, 3 percent is about what most employers are doling out, falling a little further behind cost of living each year. If these guys were even mediocre performers, I wouldn’t so much mind it. Yet, in any for-profit enterprise, most of these folks would be earmarked as dead wood in need of performing. There’s also the cost of perks. My employer tells me each year how much the cost of health insurance has increased. I feel sure the city is experiencing similar increases, more so since all “baby daddy” type relationships seem to be covered in addition to traditional families.

We need to address the MPS goons and these clowns both in the upcoming elections.

BTW, since I’m rambling anyway, how about a little attention for “Traveling Joe” Davis?

WOW.. 71K for a part time job.. how can I get in on that gig.

And big hairy bubba is right, 3% is about standard and is considered ” a good raise” by private industry standards even though the rate of inflation is around 3.8%.

these publicly funded bufoons need to be THROWN out of office and forced to get real jobs.

  3. Roland Melnick Says:

I agree with Bubba…3% is roughly the going rate for annual increase for many public employees…which is not to say I don’t understand and share Patrick’s sentiments.

I saw the tv interview of Andrekopoulos after the heated taxpayer meeting. He’s now talking about suing the State for monies he feels MPS is OWED! Cutting costs and increasing efficiencies of the operations NEVER even come close to entering the minds of these bureaucrats. THAT is the major difference between public and private sector leadership. It’s sad….always just more-more-more.

If these publicly funded buffoons were forced to get “real jobs”, no one would want them because they never learned how to actually WORK at anything!

  5. big_hairy_bubba Says:

Yet Andrekopoulos never once talked about challenging the state funding formulas until he first tried and failed to get his pound of flesh from the local property tax. Anybody who thinks the taxpayer saved any money with the scaleback to 9% increase needs to looks closer. It seems no real spending was cut, just contributions for pensions and such, where the liabilities continue to accrue unfunded for a future budget to address. The only way you saved anything with this protest is if you get the hell out now.

  6. Patrick Says:

$70K+ a year going to $80K for a part time job, not counting the monthly car payment… and if you are charged with a few federal crimes, you still qualify for a public defender… Don’t ya love Milwaukee.

Liberal Media Censorship Coming to New Berlin NOW?…

Check out these links for a case of the the NOW/CNI/JS "powers that be" censoring a conservative…

  8. big_hairy_bubba Says:

Whether the current rate of pay is warranted is almost a separate question from the amount of the proposed raises. I’d not begrudge the wages, even for a part-time job, if I felt the job was being done well. Stop and think – if crime were dropping even 10% a year for the last 4 years, if property taxes were holding steady with inflation insteading of outstripping it, if MPS students were reasonably well behaved, literate, and graduating, if businesses were clamoring to move into the community… but instead we got the crap we got. There’s about 4 that may be worth keeping – throw the rest out!

That’s just their way of saying…
    “Screw you, middleclass losers!”

Most of us actually think Aldermen are people we should respect. We think that because they are in a position of power and authority that they have achieved something.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
McGee is easy and obvious. But there are several others, in fact almost ALL of the common council that I wouldn’t hire as a part time check out clerk. These con men count on the apathy and ignorance of the public and run for the job simply for the pay and benefits. Donovan seems to care, and obviously works hard. Most don’t. They cruise they collect the pay, the collect the bennies, they take nice vacations and they DO NOTHING TO HELP MILWAUKEE.
    And we let them.

  11. michale Says:

Our taxes get raised by MPS, our “fees for services” that should be included in our tax bill increase and services and the aldermens response to constituents decrease. God bless Milwaukee.

At least the alderthug, when he is re-elected, will have a nice pay increase when he gets re-elected.

  12. Dan Says:

I know I am going to get ripped on this, but I think the mayor’s pay raise to the proposed is probably right. Not that Barret has earned it or deserve it, but the mayor is the CEO of Milwaukee and the mayor does have a lot of responsibility and oversees many departments. Teh mayor’s pay is low for a private company CEO.
As for the aldermen, no, they don’t deserve a raise but instead should get a pay cut.

  13. mickey Says:

Dan, Mayor Van Winkle is not a CEO of a private company. The CEO of a private company would be fired for sleeping on the job.

  14. milwhowie Says:

The other night I heard from a Milw. PD Sgt. that there is a staph infection epidemic within the City Jail in the Police Admin. Bldg. 6-8 cops have been infected and went on sick leaves. Anyone else here hear about this??
