I gave my thoughts on the local races this weekend, but didn’t touch on the Presidential primary, and to be honest, I am still undecided. But since Wisconsin is an Open Primary state, we have the ability to “cross over” and vote for people in any party. So do I just vote for McCain, the man I will be voting for in the general Election, even though he is not my first choice? Maybe I could vote for Mike Huckabee as a protest… No, Huckabee is a phony, I won’t give him the honor of my vote. I could vote for Mitt Romney as a protest vote, he will still be on the ballot, even though he has suspended his candidacy.
But I think I will indeed cross over and vote for the Democrat that I think is most beatable, but that raises questions too. Is Hillary Clinton, with her sky high negative ratings the easiest one to vote, or would that be Barack Obama? The man has no experience, he was a back-bencher on the Illinois state senate and has only been a US Senator for two years and has absolutely no accomplishments he can point to. He gives a good speech, but does that qualify him to be the leader of the free world?
I have to consider what would happen if John McCain were to lose in November, who among the Democrats would best lead the nation… It is a possibility, and for the good of America, it must be taken into account. Hillary Clinton, very liberal, bordering on Socialistic with her desire to confiscate profits from successful businesses, wants to socialize medicine, raise taxes, take from the successful and give to those that won’t even try to succeed. Ans she is very weak on the war and defending freedom… even though she supported sending our troops to war.
Contrast that to Barack Obama, he is even more liberal, probably the most liberal senator in America, if anything, he will take Clinton’s ideas to an even more disastrous level. And he is willing to surrender in Iraq! He would be willing to throw away the gains they have made and waste the lives we have lost, just when things are looking better than they ever have there. We can NOT support a man that wants to surrender what our troops have fought so bravely to attain. This can not be allowed to happen.
So many Democratic voters seem not to care about the substantive issues, they are more impressed with a good speech that ‘inspires” them, even though when you look at what he said, you see that there is no “there, there.” He talks and talks, without actually saying anything substantive… Shouldn’t a presidential candidate tell you what his core beliefs are? What he sees for the future of this nation? And how he plans to get us there? The danger of this inexperienced man, is so many Americans will follow him solely because he looks and sounds good, even if it is a total con job. Ask his supporters why they support him, and they speak of inspiration and hope, but ask them to name a specific thing he has ever done or that he will do, and they look at you with a blank face… They can’t name anything that the man has ever done, but they don’t care, they will vote for him anyway.
I believe that I will be voting for Hillary Clinton tomorrow. I despise her, and the thought of Bill Clinton being back in the White House turns my stomach, but I actually think she would cause less damage to the country as President if she were to be elected. But the real reason I will vote for her is that I do believe she is the most beatable. She has an incredibly high unlikeability factor. She would likely help generate more conservative support for McCain because more of us will rally behind ANYONE over Hillary. Moderates and Independents have low ratings for Clinton too.
In the end, I will vote McCain in November. There is to much at stake not to. To have either Hillary or Obama naming federal judges that will serve for the next 30 or 40 years is not acceptable, their destruction of successful businesses and insane tax and spending policies are not acceptable. Having a President Clinton or Obama with Nancy Pelosi, who is personally responsible for endangering this nation by refusing to allow a vote on the terrorist surveillance program, which would have passed with strong bipartisan support, and Harry Reid in Congress, is not acceptable.
And the thought held by some on my side, that they would rather have the country driven into the ground by a baying moonbat liberal rather than voting for John McCain, just so we can maybe get the next incarnation of Ronald Regan the next time… That is NOT ACCEPTABLE.

What about Ron Paul.

I voted for Huckabee in the MN primary for a host of reasons. I’m not a big fan, but I don’t think he’s phony either. McCain was my second choice, with Romney a distant second. Romney has great economic credentials, but the waffling over the issues was too much for me.
As far as Clinton vs. Obama, I agree with your decision to vote for Clinton between the two. Sadly, she’s more beatable.
February 18th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
Chalk me up as voting for Hillary just because she would be more beatable in November. This headline appeared in JSOnline tonite: CLINTON: Makes visits on the fly….
Must be something Bill taught her as a result of his relationship with Monica Lewinsky.

I don’t think I’ll decide until i have to declare a party tomorrow when I get to my polling place.
I think McCain has a very good chance of winning the election in November since he’s going to be viewed as a moderate, and therefore the lesser of three evils. But there’s a lotta’ road to travel between now and November.
I just can’t see voting for (B)hillary since I believe she’s already going to lose in WI.
p.s WTF is the JS doing publishing a guide to the issues Sunday? They did not even cover the candidates stance on national security…

I think there has been far too much “home spun” logic on whom to vote for and why.
If people think voting for Rodham makes her the nominee and ergo easier to beat in November, they are putting their faith in others conspiring likewise.
Let the Libs sort out their candidate.
The conventional wisdom in prognosticating is usually flawed. I.E. Senators never win the White House. Our next President is going to be a Senator.
We should not, we must not, I WILL NOT, vote for a lib tomorrow.
Sound familiar?
Seriously. Imagine your theory is to vote for Rodham because you think she’s the easier opponent in November, and then somehow she wins the nomination, and the ELECTION.
OUCH. I don’t want that on my conscience.
If you want to gamble go to Vegas or Potawotomie.

The discussion over whether Obama or Clinton is more beatable (by McCain) must be focused to reflect Wisconsin’s pervasive (but still thinly coated) blue state mentality. In the November general election, Wisconsin would seem to be a more Clinton friendly state than an Obama friendly state, vis a vis McCain. But this is an unusual year in many respects, and much can change by November. But when all choices are ill, one should not encourage illness, but seek to endure it.
February 19th, 2008 at 1:26 am
Mr. Wasserman, I tend to agree.
Wisconsin has tended to be BLUE. And in this political season, ONE would believe that Rodham OR Obama would have an edge.
But…….Rodham is not popular nor sensational with anyone. Obama is (my opinion) THE KNACK, a one hit wonder (My Sharona) and off to the scrap heap.
But I’ll be honest…because there is NO conservative left running, there will be no PASSION from the RIGHT. None. That HOWEVER, does not make a OVERBLOWN, VAPID, VACCUOUS OBAMA the winner.
I’ve got a vacation paid for and planned for D.C. in July. Much will change betwixt now and then. I hope the Brewers are contenders in July, but only God knows.
Obama is as empty as any politician I’ve ever seen. Obama’s popularity is as shallow as any I’ve ever seen. Obama is popular with the most SHALLOW of the most SHALLOW.
MILLI VANILLI OBAMA.
What scares me is the intelligent humans that ignore Obama’s lack of substance yet still back him…
February 19th, 2008 at 1:28 am
I agree, vote for Hillary. She will be even more beatable when she beats Obama. All of his fans will vote for McCain to go against her.Plus Obama is dangerous with his rhetoric. He’s gaining too much support from saying nothing.I’m afraid if Hillary doesn’t beat him,Republicans won’t have a chance by the time the general election gets here.I’m too scared of what the democrats want to do to risk it.Please vote for Hillary!!A vote for Hillary is a vote for McCain!!That should make it a little easier, lol.
February 19th, 2008 at 1:32 am
I agree, vote for Hillary. She will be even more beatable by the general election, whereas Obama would only be stronger. If Hillary takes Obama out most of his fans will vote for McCain to go against her probably.Obama is scary with the amount of support he’s receiving running that campaign on rhetoric.I’m afraid of the democrats,so please vote for Hillary!!Let’s give John McCain a chance.
February 19th, 2008 at 7:00 am
There is another reason to vote for Hillary, the longer she and Obama are mixing it up, means they will be spending huge amounts of money on attacking each other, allowing McCain to solidify his base. I still think Hillary is really going to go negative as she is backed into a corner.
February 19th, 2008 at 8:12 am
What about the VP issue?
Right now it looks like Edwards will be with Obama while Hillary must select a black or hispanic VP.
But, if they team up (either way) it’s over! The question is, who would be more likely to accept becoming the VP?
February 19th, 2008 at 8:35 am
If you vote for Senator Clinton and she wins the general proudly say you helped put her in office!!!!!
February 19th, 2008 at 9:04 am
I’m voting Obama. I like the promised transparency in government, and his opposition to the Iraq War.
February 19th, 2008 at 9:15 am
Hillary, and Obama, will keep spending other people’s money to take the Nomination. It is that Hillary will destroy the Democrat party to get the Nomination. GO HILLARY!
February 19th, 2008 at 10:18 am
Vote your heart. Vote for the candidate you’d most like to see as president. It sounds like that might be Romney for you, so vote for him, whether or not he is still in the race. Or vote for Huckabee, if his views are closest to your own.
As my username makes obvious, I am a Democrat, but I briefly considered voting for Huckabee in Virginia to keep the Republican race interesting, since I was pretty confident about Obama’s chances. But I was really excited to vote for Barack Obama, and there was no way I was going to pass up the opportunity. In 2004, I voted for Dean after he’d dropped out, because I had looked forward to voting for him and I still wanted to vote for the candidate I’d most like to see as president.
As an Obama supporter, I’d obviously like to see you vote for Obama regardless of what your motive is, but as someone who takes voting as seriously as you do, my advice is to follow your heart, and vote for the candidate you’d most like to see in the White House next year.
February 19th, 2008 at 10:46 am
If you Righties want to vote for Hillary then go right ahead. But when you’re responsible for putting her in the White House you won’t be able to protest by moving to Canada (higher taxes, universal health care, and no guns).
February 19th, 2008 at 11:00 am
I’m with Patrick.
February 19th, 2008 at 11:06 am
alba,
The Bag, Hillary, will not get elected. Her negatives are about 50% now. When she “Torques” off the Obama supporters, she won’t have a coalition big enough to win even against “McChicken Nuggets”.
February 19th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
Hillary is already fighting dirty, she is contacting delegates that Obama has already won, and is trying to turn them toward her side, and there are no rules against that. She will also most likely go to court to have the Michigan and Florida delegates seated at the convention. If she is able to pull this off and win dirty, it will really make things interesting.
Also remember that Jim Doyle is looking for a job in the Obama administration… Just think about a Governor Barb “the howling moonbat” Lawton… That should scare you almost as much as President Hillary
February 19th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
This whole scenario makes me think of a joke were what do you get when a bus carrying Hillary, Obama, and Clinton goes off a bridge…
February 19th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
Oh add McNuggets to the bus, too.
February 19th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
“Hillary is already fighting dirty”
HOW SHOCKING. To think that Rodham would fight dirty is beyond comprehension. I mean she seems so pleasant. Her HINO (husband in name only) has pulled out the race card and cited Jesse Jackson to put down Obama, he has ripped the media for cheating Rodham, and he is yelling at people who confront him. This is hilarious. Meanwhile an extremely wealthy self made black couple are telling us how the American dream needs fixing.
You can’t make this shyte up.

In the early 30s there was a firebrand delivering the same passionate message of change as our dear Mr. Obama. By 1939 the whole world finally understood what his idea of change meant. A good orator is not necessarily a compassionate leader. There is no doubt this Government is in dire need of change, but at what cost?
February 19th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
Yes, Scott, and this great orator also was a fashion leader and painter. He ended up marrying an actress.
February 19th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
Scott, you’re right-wing nuts make me laugh. Obama-Hitler? How about Bush-Hitler. False propaganda leading us into an unnecessary war. Attacking our civil liberties by tapping our phones without a warrant. Cleaning out honest republican US attorneys and putting in place cronies based upon loyalty to his extremist vision. Economic policies bent to the benefit of the industrial elite. Placing the power of the executive above the legislature via signing statments and specious citations to executive privilege. Need I go on? It is really sad how low the republican party has gone. I voted for Perot in 1996 and McCain in the Republican primary in 2000. I won’t even consider another republican for a decade.

The guy’s probably a nutcase, but if you haven’t seen it yet, you may want to look at http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=56626 allegations about Obama.
February 19th, 2008 at 5:07 pm
Just yet another time when we are forced into voting for the lesser of evils..there’s no clear outstanding candidate in any party…sad, very sad.
February 19th, 2008 at 5:52 pm
what do you get when a bus carrying Hillary, Obama, and Clinton goes off a bridge…
You get yelled at because it is a huge waste of space. A bus can hold more than those three.
james carvell, ann coulter, ron paul, jim doyle, mike mcgee jr could all fit on the bus with plenty of room for more.
February 19th, 2008 at 5:56 pm
I voted McCain, even though I intended to vote Obama. Obama is the choice I want against McCain, because McCain can beat him in November. I do not want to face the Clinton machine. Obama would make a good Prom King – too bad we are electing a President. No “on the job training time allowed.”
February 19th, 2008 at 6:57 pm
While all of you are trying to out think the democrats or republicans, I am with Dan on the very first post and I voted for Ron Paul
February 19th, 2008 at 7:26 pm
The Hildebeast most likely can only gain the nomination by courting superdelegates and changing the rules to “re-enfranchise” the Florida and Michigan voters who gave her those states. Even if she is successful, this will reek of a backroom dirty deal to black voters – unless she can persuade Obama to take the VP slot on the ticket.
Right now, it looks like McCain can beat the Hildebeast if she doesn’t have Obama on the ticket. He’s going down like the Titanic if he faces Obama.
February 19th, 2008 at 7:53 pm
Obama would make a good Prom King – too bad we are electing a President.
Oooh. Can I steal that?
I considered a vote for Hillary, but if she wins in Nov I don’t want it to be my fault.
February 19th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
This is the most depressing election cycle i’ve ever been in.. I was forced to vote for Ron Paul.
Everyone else should have run their campaigns in Mexico – their true loves.
Hitlery and Osama:
- amnesty
- tax you for massive social programs.
McStain:
- amnesty
- tax you for massive unnecessary military increase in waste and fraud.
Huckster:
- Amnesty
- military increase, social program increase, fraud.
Ernesto Zedillo was right in 1996: ” we will overtake you without firing a shot” ..
I’m staying home on the presidential election day.. whats the difference, vote for a turd or a turd.

Sure, you can use that
I know what you mean about not wanting another President Clinton being “your fault.” GOD help America if THAT happens again…

[...] The results of the Republican Primaries, however, have made open primaries in the remaining races more treacherous, though. Now that McCain has more or less sealed the deal, Republicans have little motivation to vote in their party’s primary, and every incentive to f*** with the democratic race. Indeed, some conservative bloggers have proposed doing just that. [...]
