Front Page Milwaukee has some devastating numbers showing how illegal immigrants are running through our criminal (in)justice system over and over again. And they know that these numbers are only the tip of the iceberg since Milwaukee Police and other entities involved do not, and by policy, can not check into the immigration status of suspects. These numbers only represent those that have previously been deported by the federal system.
In a first of its kind investigation in Wisconsin, Frontpage Milwaukee has found:
One hundred eighty eight previously deported felons identified as illegal immigrants by federal and local officials were booked into the Milwaukee County Jail on new criminal charges, municipal violations, and other violations in the past four years, a three-month Frontpage Milwaukee investigation found.
That is between three and four arrests per week. In total, the felons had at least approximately 388 contacts with police and have been charged with at least 497 offenses dating back in some cases to 1986. Some are gang members, including one nicknamed “Shootout”.
You can read this investigative report at Front Page Milwaukee:
FPM INVESTIGATION: 188 PREVIOUSLY DEPORTED FELONS CYCLED THROUGH JAIL

Excellent investigative reporting by these UWM college students. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel could learn a lesson from these kids. After reading this Front Page Milwaukee article my first thought is that somehow Maricopa County (Phoenix) Arizona has figured out how to do this and has illegals fleeing their county back to old Mexico, why is this so difficult up here? (Rhetorical question – we all know the answer to that one.)

The problems within the criminal justice system are too numerous to mention with regard to this issue. You have men beating up on their wives/girlfriends who are here illegally, and tell them “if you call the police, I’ll have you deported.” (Not true, but it doesn’t take much to scare someone who’s in an abusive relationship to begin with.)
Second, the federal government quite honestly DOESN’T CARE about half these guys. Anyone can be deported for a crime of “moral turpitude,” but I can’t tell you how many people I know who have been laughed at when they call the DHS and tell them they have an illegal alien in custody for a minor (or sometimes not so minor) criminal charge.
It annoys me for several reasons. I can’t stand hearing stories on the news about good people getting deported when I think about how many illegal aliens are sent to prison in Wisconsin on an annual basis. It disgusts me to picture how many guys are arrested here on drug and other violent crimes after being deported years before (funny how they always manage to come back from whence they came).
It’s a complicated issue and I’m certainly more liberal than most on this board when it comes to immigration, but I can tell you right now, DEPORTING CRIMINALS should be the feds’ number one priority at this point. I have no desire to see hardworking people deported for making a mistake and coming here illegally, as opposed to the ones who come here and commit crimes.

Wow, is this the DMV? Captain Smith sounds like a real crime-fighting ball of fire!
March 9th, 2008 at 12:33 pm
Anon-Insider, first and foremost, the first phase of dealing with this problem is deporting illegal immigrants who have committed crimes. It’s a no-brainer.
However, I would certainly disagree with your belief that illegal immigrants make “a mistake†when they enter this country illegally. Even a high grade moron comprehends that people simply can’t walk into another sovereign nation and say, ‘I’m here, now educate my children, pay for our visits to the emergency room, and, oh, by the way Mr. Police Officer, don’t tell your own government I’m violating the law.’
On the other hand, it is logistically impractical to deport 20 to 25 million people (and that is the actual number of the illegal immigrant invasion, which means that one of every 8.3 people is residing in the U.S. illegally). Phase Two should consist of a crack down on employers who hire illegal immigrants. In states, such as Oklahoma and Arizona, legislation penalizing employers has caused many illegal immigrants to self deport (or at least move on to a liberal state, such as Wisconsin). With the ability to work, many illegal immigrants would likely return to their own countries.
Anon-insider, I agree with you that our nation needs immigrants. There are some jobs Americans won’t perform, such as working in the fields, in coal mines, in dirty industries (foundries heavy die casting, etc.), are part of our national security infrastructure. Our nation’s policy makers need to sit down and determine how many immigrants this nation needs. These policy makers then must expedite the entry of legal immigrants. In many instances, law-abiding Mexican nationals wait 15 years to obtain the necessary paper work to legally immigrate. Once this is accomplished, the law needs to be changed to make it a felony to enter the U.S. illegally.
March 9th, 2008 at 12:53 pm
AfterDarkDave (calling you ADD seems a little insensitive
),
I agree with most of your post. It may have been, oddly, a mistake for me to call illegal immigration a “mistake” on the part of the people who do it.:)
BUT…our government doesn’t seem to care about the low-level guys who beat up their wives and girlfriends and steal from stores. They actually also don’t seem to care about the guys that have sold undercover cops multiple ounce quantities of crack and powder cocaine and have been charged accordingly. I know that these things happen because I’ve seen it through my own experiences.
And I hate to give a personal example because it is certainly not representative of a group as a whole, but one of my best friends in law school had parents that had every intention of coming here legally. They got taken by a scam artist in Mexico to the tune of several thousand American dollars in the early 1970s.
They came here illegally but eventually became citizens, worked their butts off, and had two kids end up going to two very prestigious American universities as a result of their efforts. Those are the people that deserve a reprieve or an opportunity to make up for their errors in judgment by coming here illegally…:)
Whether it’s a grievous error in judgment, a crime, a mistake, or whatever other phrase we care to use, it’s up to us to make sure that the hardworking folks who believe in the power of the dream have the opportunity to actually make it happen.:) Problem is, no candidate or legislator has come up with a solution that addresses these concerns in a comprehensive, realistic manner.
Although yours seems pretty good…:)

Good reporting by UWM students my arse. You night want to kiss the ring of the real reporter Jessica McBride.

Oh RP, are we off our meds for the McBride Derangement Syndrome again?
I know her relative silence has left some of you a bit paranoid
Maybe you have good reason…

I agree that a plan needs to be made which includes amnesty for hard working, moral immigrants. I don’t know about all of you but when I go out to eat almost every where I go has a kitchen full of immigrants (or those that seem to be immigrants). Do Americans know how to cook anymore? I would be a little scared if they were all suddenly deported
I have worked with quite a few immigrants in my job and those who aren’t out comitting crimes would like to pay taxes, vote, and play a role in the civic activities of the community (beyond just recieving medical care or welfare).
March 9th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
[blockquote]I have worked with quite a few immigrants in my job and those who aren’t out comitting crimes would like to pay taxes, vote, and play a role in the civic activities of the community (beyond just recieving medical care or welfare).[/blockquote]
What kind of immigrants are you referring to? If they are here legally, they are already on the path to doing the things you mentioned. I don’t think anyone has a problem with that. If they are illegal immigrants, then they are already committing a crime by being here.
March 9th, 2008 at 10:41 pm
All illegal immigrants should be deported when discovered by any government agency AS SUCH.
I agree in a “comprehensive immigration” policy.
To wit: Find the criminals and get rid of them NOW.
When we stumble across illegals send them home NOW.
If illegals want to stay, they need to come clean an apply. Under the terms of todays laws or new ones we create.
They are not American citizens. We owe them nothing.
March 9th, 2008 at 11:19 pm
I agree that a plan needs to be made which includes amnesty for hard working, moral immigrants
Absolutely freaking not!!! What the hell part of illegal don’t you understand???
March 10th, 2008 at 12:11 am
Who would you suggest work the jobs that the “illegals” are working? Who would work in the kitchens, the fields, the mines, the landscaping companies, construction companies etc.? I usually don’t form opinions regarding social issues based on fiscal reasons, however, it does not seem to benefit many of the business owners in this country to “send them home NOW.” I will concede that illigal immigrants who committ certain crimes should be deported. Our prisons are already overpopulated and struggling to pay for adequate services. Entering a country illegaly does not compare to murder, burglary, rape etc. Many of the immigrants are providing vital services and ask for the opportunity to become citizens. Perhaps the real issue is that out current process for acquiring citizenship is too restrictive and results in violations which could be avoided.
March 10th, 2008 at 12:22 am
Maybe you could work those jobs.
You’re waisting space currently.
I’m not purposely insulting you. You do that just fine on your own.
March 10th, 2008 at 5:50 am
How about the inner city residents who can’t find work take those jobs now held by illegal immigrants? Ole Bubba worked in kitchens and such a number of times in his younger days before he got his CDL.
March 10th, 2008 at 6:11 am
anonymouseinsider, shame on you:
“I have no desire to see hardworking people deported for making a mistake and coming here illegally…”
No decent American citizen should condone ANYTHING illegal. What do you think laws are for??? Look what serious problems we have when people like you pretend some things illegal are okay. People are dying, women are getting used and abused and illegal drugs are running rampant. But this is all “okay” with you? Please.
I’m with mickey and Peter.
March 10th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
Well I appreciate your tax dollars paying my salary while I am just wasting space- thanks.
Jeni, have you ever done anything illegal? We as Americans are always qualifying laws based on our opinion of them: ie: speeding, general traffic laws, marijuana laws, gun laws, tax laws, etc. We seek to justify our actions just as the immigrants do. However, they have a much more altruistic goal- making money to support their families and provide a better life for their children.
March 10th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
milwaukeesocialworker, you disgust me. You couldn’t make it without a government subsidy. These aren’t “immigrants” they are “illegal immigrants”. I’m not saying I hate you, I’m sayin that you are a government trough sucking liberal without a clue. Frank Fabiano was shot DEAD by a illegal immigrant. You live on fantasy island, as most government paid liberal bureaucrats do. They come here for a variety of reasons. Each one that comes illegally needs to be sent packing.
March 10th, 2008 at 4:31 pm
Who would you suggest work the jobs that the “illegals†are working? Who would work in the kitchens, the fields, the mines, the landscaping companies, construction companies etc.?
There’s a whole bunch of guys hanging out on the corners, but it would be “insensitive” to suggest they wash some dishes or mow some lawns or, God forbid, move to a rural community with a labor shortage to milk cows.
Even a high grade moron comprehends that people simply can’t walk into another sovereign nation and say, ‘I’m here, now educate my children,
Kinda looks like a whole lot of high- and low-grade morons have realized that you CAN simply walk into the U.S. and roll out your list of demands. OTOH, Americans can’t do that to, say France. Seems unfair.
March 10th, 2008 at 4:50 pm
first concentrate on deporting or inprisoning (illegals} these offenders of law and order(not an easy task but let’s start somewhere}. Second concentrate on who’s hiring these people,in the first place. I’m sure if I came in this country, other than to commit crime, I not here to see the sights, but to get work and make more money then I ever had at the old country.
March 10th, 2008 at 5:04 pm
I see all kinds of people suggesting we start with the criminals first.
THEY ARE ALL CRIMINALS.
But to clarify, let me draw an analogy if I may.
We have very very sick children. When we find that they are sick, we get them help.
When we have kids who just have the sniffles, we don’t simply ignore them. They get care too.
It’s not one or the other it is both.
We give higher priority to the VIOLENT CRIMINALS. But we should treat all these criminals when we come across them.
If anyone involved in tax payer funded goverment work KNOWS a person is illegal, it is his/her DUTY to report that person.
March 10th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
For those who have criticized my first post, I clarified it in post #5. I believe it is illogical to deport everyone immediately. It is impractical and it just ain’t gonna happen. We have to find a solution that is pragmatic and easy to implement, since the feds can’t handle anything trememdously complicated.
And Mickey, people in government DO report illegal immigrants, as I stated in previous posts. THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT DOESN’T CARE. Complain to them, not the employees of the State of Wisconsin. I’m sure plenty of cops, district attorneys, and other government workers would gladly drive the punks to the border themselves if they could.
My point is, I would rather see people convicted of violent crimes deported first. We can think of ways to address the other problems later. But I still think it’s disgusting to see stories on the news of people coming here illegally, sometimes because they were denied political asylum, and getting deported while convicted criminals use my tax dollars as they spend their time in our state prison system. That’s my personal belief as to the way the government should handle it.
And Jeni, (post #16), please don’t assume what I do or don’t prioritize when it comes to illegal behavior. You have no idea what I do or how I do it and you have no idea how hard I work to keep this county as safe as possible.
March 10th, 2008 at 7:28 pm
It’s not illogical and impractical to deport all illegal immigrants. We just lack the will to actually do it. Most of us can agree that the illegals who commmit crimes – particularly violent crimes – after their arrrival should receive enhanced attention and priority. We do seem to have a little more willpower in such cases and for enforcement of employers, so we may have to settle for a token start there until we can wake up more of the sheeple.
March 10th, 2008 at 7:51 pm
Anonymousinsider,
We all know why you wish to remain anonymous, you don’t want your name known as another liberal idiot, devoid of contact to reality.
Illegals are ILLEGAL, period. You can’t change it with just YOUR WHIM. Laws are to be enforced, not picked and chosen as tax sucking elitists like yourself deem fit.
March 10th, 2008 at 8:05 pm
PCD,
You can ask the feds why they aren’t enforcing immigration laws. Don’t ask me; I don’t work for them.
There are other reasons why I choose to remain anonymous, and they are none of your business.
Name calling won’t get you anywhere with me; intelligent discourse will.
March 10th, 2008 at 8:11 pm
There’s a whole bunch of guys hanging out on the corners, but it would be “insensitive†to suggest they wash some dishes or mow some lawns or, God forbid, move to a rural community with a labor shortage to milk cows.
Start by eliminating all forms of public welfare. Cold turkey. Make the lazy, good-for-nothing goldbricks lying around on the sofa watching Oprah, using the safety net as a hammock, take those jobs to survive.
No workee, no checkee.
March 10th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
Anonymousinsider, I was not criticizing you. I was stating my opinion. But since you chose to engage me and reply to my opinion, I’ll do likewise.
I said QUOTE “If anyone involved in tax payer funded goverment work KNOWS a person is illegal, it is his/her DUTY to report that person.”
I meant that verbatim 100% of the time.
You CHOSE to reply with…QUOTE”And Mickey, people in government DO report illegal immigrants”
No ANON, they don’t. I’m not critical of your post, but you are not correct. Many branches of many governments in the U.S. are forbidden from reporting and many are not allowed to ask about status.
THAT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.
Do you agree??
March 10th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
Mickey- I really appreciated the “you are a government trough sucking liberal without a clue.” That gave me a good laugh today. I would think that I may have more of a clue than some of you in that I actually work with some of these immigrants and see their plight. I have never seen one sitting on the couch watching Oprah.
Secondly, some of you are misrepresenting the public welfare system. If an individual is employed, as we’ve stated they usually are, they will not recieve money from the state. They may recieve medical coverage if their income is low enough but it is not very good coverage. That is the extent of the public aid they recieve. Anon, I think you had some good points. It is beyond the scope of many government entities to chase down or report immigrants. And if they do report it, the state and nation has other priorities beyond deporting hard working, non- violent immigrants.
March 10th, 2008 at 11:08 pm
Milwaukeesocialworker-
You need to do a little research, that is if you are educated to do so, oh, and if you have time, as you are a Milwaukee Social Worker, we all know how hard you work. Maybe you can use some of our tax dollars doing so on OUR time, like you have so so nicely during your work day already.
Approximately less that 30% of the “menial” low paying jobs are held by illegal immigrant, the rest are held by, you guessed it, but don’t want to admit it, AMERICANS!!! So get off your high liberal stupid butt pedastal and face facts. You have no idea what you are talking about.
Plight, oh, boo hoo. maybe these illegals should spend their time making their own countries better and quit screwing up ours! People like you make me sick. Oh, they are not watching Oprah because it is not on the spanish channel!!!
9% of high school drop outs are Americans, whereas 60%
March 10th, 2008 at 11:14 pm
oops, 34% of illegals are high school drop outs. Who is draining our system? Also, why would companies hire the Americans when they can hire the illegals so much cheaper? The illegals take jobs away from us. Illegal immigrants have now cost us over 40 billion dollars by the government services they receive, of which they do not pay any taxes for.
I believe I can go on and on with facts. You, the social worker, still will be blind to the real truth until you actually work for your money, and realize what is really going on. Until then, shut up for things you know nothing about in the real world.
March 11th, 2008 at 5:49 am
It’s not just that illegals take jobs away from US citizens, but also that they hold down wages in many sectors because they are willing (or not able to refuse) to work for less. In addition, they are a drain on our tax dollars via social services they receive, including the salaries of those who administer said services.
34% are high school dropouts? What is the graduation rate for inner city residents? They are also a drain on our tax dollars via the social services they receive, and most likely to work in sectors whose wages are depressed by illegal immigrants.
Yes RP and Socialworker, I’m lumping lots of diversee people into groups here. Doesn’t make the point less valid.
March 11th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
Jodi, what do you do for a living? I could imagine you driving around in your pick up with your rifle strapped to the back and the confederate flag on it toting your ethnocentric racist attitudes. I am really impressed with your statistics but it\’s interesting that you did not provide a source. Did you just make those up? If you actually read my post, i explained the “government services\” which do not amount to much. I am glad that Americans are working as well, but it is not the fault of the immigrants that large corporations are lowering wages and hiring them instead. You should talk to some of your conservative buddies representing big business about that. All I am trying to do is advocate for equity for the individuals and families who are here just trying to make a living and take care of their kids.
And speaking of work ethic, the immigrants probably have a better work ethic than many Americans.
March 11th, 2008 at 9:37 pm
Make Jodi work at one of the inner city stores and then see how many minutes she lasts there. Then we could ask her about the work ethic of immigrants.

How convenient.
Leftists are by their very nature bigots. These poor poor “immigrants” are stereotyped by LEFTIES, and LEFTIES care about them, because these “immigrants are good and decent” and because these “immigrants” need LEFTOIDS PITY.
A government paid FREEEEKIN’ SOCIAL WORKER has the balls to pull the RACE CARD on someone who merely lover her own country and wants it run by the law. Not by libs.
Pathetic.

Corbin – Very nice. I like sources, hard to argue with that. You are going to force the left to have to make logical arguments now – oh how I pity them. You are not being “fair”.
March 11th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
Corbin, when I released that comment from moderation, I assumed it had to be “spam” because it had so many links associated with it. Good thing I actually read it, and realized you were just somebody who really did their homework before clicking “submit comment“. Hats off to you.
It’s rare any poster would cite that many sources. Nicely done.
March 11th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
Hey Corbin- I agree…. thanks for the sources and I will definetly read those. I am not necessarily a fan of Lou Dobbs but he seems to have a variety of view points giving input.
I am not here to personally attack anyone, sorry Jodi. I really hope that I can provide a different perspective on issues that I deal with every day. I work with the children of immigrants who are not to blame for the mistakes of their parents. They deserve education, healthcare, and social support just as our children do. Whether we deport them or not, they need the support in the mean time.

I’ll post more of my sources later.
I do not recall saying anything about being a racist, but I love how you pull that out of your arse, just like a liberal.
You are close, i don’t drive a pick up truck, I do drive a huge gas guzzling horrible for the earth SUV!! I don’t just have one rifle, I have 6!!!! I am not racist, I hate all pieces of crap. Most illegal immigrants happen to fit that profile.
Tim, I did work in the inner city for a year, with hispanics (legal) and African Americans. All of these nice kids were in their last chance high school trying to make it. Unfortunately the government is too busy spending all of the money giving it to illegals rather than trying to help the people that deserve it and are trying to make something out of themselves. I would have lasted longer, if I would have not moved. I am as tough as anyone, but I value my life. Do you work in an inner city store? If not, shut the he** up.
