Well, waking up to a raging thunderstorm, knowing it is going to be in the upper 80′s makes for a miserable start to the work week. A hot muggy day, all this rain, and more on the way throughout the day is going to make life for those of us working outside miserable, so drink lots of water and/or Gatorade.

If you have elderly family members or friends or if someone you know has trouble regulating their body temperature, take the time to check up on them, if they don’t have air conditioning, this weather can be dangerous. Suggest a shopping trip to a nice air conditioned mall, or maybe a movie, or a visit to a friend with air conditioning.

The Center for Disease Control and Red Cross has some information on and tips for dealing with extreme heat and identifying & treating heat related illnesses.

And don’t forget your pets! If they don’t have an air conditioned area, make sure they have shade all day and lots of water!

It’s a shame that anyone needs to be told that, but you are absolutely right Marge… Why are people so damn stupid?

You know, last month, while my son was at Vacation Bible School, I ran to the Fox Point Mall at the corner of Brown Deer Road and I-43. When I pulled into my parking lot, the car in front of me had TWO children and ONE Pet in the car.
I was shocked. I looked around and looked around. I was going to find a manager of some sort and the mom came bath with another daughter.

I asked if that was her car and she said yes, and I just stated you know you shouldn’t leave your child (about four) in the car, I didn’t bring my dog today because it is to hot in a vehicle.

Typical excuse “Northshore style”, we are moving, we checked every few minutes (ladies in LLBean said this was not so), she has an older sister in the car with her, blah blah blah…..

Doesn’t matter, no kid, no dog in the car on warm days = no matter what age.

    The Morning Scramble (double-barrelled edition) – 8/4/2008…

Silent E already put up an abbreviated Scramble back at my main site that can’t be missed, but I don’t leave until o-light-hundred (6 am Central) Wednesday. I may as well combine the two…

I’ll leave you to decide which…..

Illinois has a new law that forbids utilities from cutting off service for non-payment when it’s hot. Can Wisconsin be far behind?

“SPRINGFIELD – Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today signed legislation to provide a safeguard for Illinois consumers … by prohibiting power companies from shutting off utilities when temperatures reach 95 degrees or higher …”
