Just in time for the Olympics, a Russian invasion and the Democratic National Convention, a BadgerBlogger reader sends us a video of the latest fashion trend… Throw back Soviet Union military uniforms, complete with medals and ribbons.
What’s next? Nazi Brown-shirts… Ku Klux Klan hoods?
Way to show your true colors Burlington Coat Factory!

Just when you think things couldn’t get any dumber….

WOW. I knew “Soviet military” was a trend in art and fashion, but I didn’t realize anyone was getting that realistic. I work with a guy who wears nothing but Ambercrombie and Fitch (that’s gotta be in the DSM IV right there), and half his new shirts feature the CCCP red star with quasi-military lettering.
But the fake medals is a whole new level of disgusting.

Wasn’t this like the German Nazi’s when you committ atrocities in a country and then flee to the United States, you sell your uniforms?

Seriously? Holy cow. I’m calling them to complain. We’ve shopped there in the past and spent a lot of money on baby items and furniture, never really much clothing though. If this is the kind of junk that they are going to be stocking we will not shop there anymore.

Yea, but their new line of “Papa Doc” duvets are fab-u-lous!

I wonder if Jay Bullroar wears them when he teaches.

Yeah, I was so disgusted when I saw this, I had to make an extra special trip back just to film it.
Unfortunately, the leftists who now control the Universities have taught our youth a romanticized version of Soviet Communism, so few people under 25 will understand why this is so reprehensible.

By the way, I just listened to Belling’s broadcast on this subject on today’s podcast.
He is correct, these were newly manufactured items, not old worn clothes you might find at Good Will or Salvation Army. Burlington Coat Factory does not sell used items.
I didn’t think of it at the time because I was so incensed, but I wish I had caught the manufacterer’s label and price tag.

Jaeson, thanks for sending that video! I was pressed for time this morning and wanted to get that video uploaded and posted, so didn’t have a chance to get back to you via email.
One has to wonder of the people wearing these clothes realize that the Soviet Union killed hundreds of thousands of Russians and other Eastern Europeans and ethnic minorities… Their terror rivaled the Nazi’s.

No biggie. Thanks for posting it, I’m just glad there was a place I could share it, since I’m sure the local networks or newspapers wouldn’t be interested. I just wish I would have gotten the manufacturer, now that’s really bugging me.
Well, I’m sure the younger folks don’t realize it because they’re being taught a candy coated version of Soviet Communism in our schools and universities. I’m willing to bet that no one under the age of 25 has ever heard the phrase, “We will bury you,” or would know from whom it came.

I will have to remember this post the next time I see a t-shirt with the Dixie flag on it.

…or Che Guevara.

John,
No need to remember this post. Just air drop yourself in the new Soviet Empire. something tells me you’ll find it to be a paradise.

I agree that these shirts are ridiculous, and the fashion-izing of most military stuff makes me deeply uncomfortable. I think a lot of us have forgotten just what these various regimes were really all about (not so much actual communism as violent dictatorships that used communism as a convenient path to power), or are just prone to trends, regardless of their offensiveness.
But I also agree with John, in that I believe his point was that the outrage you’re all expressing here could and should be applied to the various Confederate flag revering gear you still find all over the US, too. Like not all Russians or Cubans or Germans were evil people, not all those living in the Southern States were evil, either. But the government for which that flag stands employed some seriously hideous policies and ideologies, and we forget that at our own peril.

Emily,
Actual communism isn’t any better, except in the fantasy land of unicorns, leprechauns, and rainbows, that can be entered only through the use of a water bong. There is no distinction. Communism itself is at best an incorrect philosophy, and at worst a tool for the subjugation of an entire people, as is evidenced by it’s true history, not the warped romanticized revisionist history currently being taught in universities.
As far as John’s comment, he’s using it as a chance to take an easy cheap shot at America. As most know-nothings typically do.
But no one is defending the Dixie flag. I myself have argued in the past that I can understand how a black man sees the same thing when he looks at the Dixie flag, he sees the same thing a Jew sees when he looks at a swastika.
But all of that is irrelevant, because one atrocity does not excuse another. The Black Holocaust as some have called it, does not excuse the Soviet Communist empire.

Actually Jaeson, I was getting a shot at the false shock at these items by the people on this board. I have been to communist countries, East Germany and the Soviet Union, and trust me I would never find that to be paradise. I am guessing that you have have not. I commented because I cannot stand hypocrisy and this post reeks of it.

Yeah, collectivists hate federalism almost as much as they hate when people–or states–won’t think what they tell them they should think.

I am shocked that Burlington Coat Factory would have this on their shelves. This look more like something you would find in a Milwaukee East-side shop owned by hippies. I guess I won’t be spending my money at (East) Berlin(ton) Coat Factory.

This is not that surprising to me. If you look around on the web you can find TONS of replica Nazi, Soviet, Klan outfits etc. for sale. It’s just a little odd that they would shelve this in a large and popular store.

False shock? How do you make this stuff up?
Anyway, just an update:
I rode past so I stopped in again. They’re still in front.
