Can you imagine what would have happened if a Republican threatened to punch President Clinton? But a Democratic Senator threatens to punch President Bush on national TV and no one notices… Nope, no media bias here.
Sen. Landrieu Threatens to ‘Punch’ President
Senator Mary Landrieu, the Democrat of Louisiana (whose father was a mayor of New Orleans), appears to have finally found her voice after offering only cautious criticism of the federal relief effort in the hurricane catastrophe earlier in the week. Today she promised to literally “punch” anyone, “including the president,” who continued to question the local response to the tragedy, considering the gross federal misconduct.Appearing on ABC’s “The Week” TV program this morning, Senator Landrieu still appeared to be smarting from President Bush’s comments, during his national radio address, that state and local bore a fair share of blame for the slow response. On a copter tour of the area, Landrieu said that if she heard any more criticism from federal officials, particularly about the evacuation of New Orleans, she might lose control.
“If one person criticizes them or says one more thing - including the president of the United States - he will hear from me,” she said on the ABC program. “One more word about it after this show airs and I might likely have to punch him. Literally.”
Does Senator Landrieu realize that threatening violence against the President is illegal?
The media wouldn’t show the jumpers from the World Trade Center, they stopped showing the planes crashing into the towers, they didn’t show the remains of firefighters pulled from the wreckage. They told us that they didn’t want to inflame the public… But now they think showing the bodies of flood victims in New Orleans is just fine, as long as they think they can inflame people against the President. They are so transparent.
CNN.com - U.S. won’t ban media from New Orleans searches - Sep 10, 2005
Rather than fight a lawsuit by CNN, the federal government abandoned its effort Saturday to prevent the media from reporting on the recovery of the dead in New Orleans.Joint Task Force Katrina “has no plans to bar, impede or prevent news media from their news gathering and reporting activities in connection with the deceased Hurricane Katrina victim recovery efforts,” said Col. Christian E. deGraff, representing the task force.

Just a quick comment, but I like the look of the new JSOnline website. The only negative thing, (beside their bias content, but that’s another subject) I wonder why they put the Classifieds at the top and not the news…
Professor McAdams has broken another story that proves the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s ineptness.
The paper printed a column credited to former Mayor Frank Zeidler, a proud Socialist (honest, he IS a proud Socialist). Since the column was about ending judicial activism, it didn’t ring true that a Socialist would think this way, so Professor McAdams picked up a phone and called Zeidler who confirmed that he did not write the column… Oops, the paper has some ’splainin’ to do.
Charlie got the following email from the papers Editor:
Charlie: We were made aware of this situation yesterday - and we’re preparing a full explanation of what happened and why for tomorrow’s paper. - Betsy Brenner
Great Job Professor McAdams! And another victory for the New Media!
The paper’s TV & Radio reporter Tim Cuprisin has finally caught onto the controversy at WISN’s Milwaukee Talkstar (a few weeks late…as usual). He seems to think that Bloggers like me, along with radio hosts like Charlie Sykes and Mark Belling are “egging” conservative talk radio listeners into some sort of rage.
Did I have an opinion on the ballot stuffing by members of The Daily Kos? Sure I did, I invested a lot of time on that competition. I wonder if Cuprisin even bothered to listen in. But I listened every day of the competition and posted updates and my opinions every single day. Not only did I update the post after each contestant, we also had a lively discussion in the Comments section of the blog with well over 100 comments being logged (in all of the Talkstar posts), many by contestants themselves. I also discussed the rumors of ballot stuffing back in early July, I expressed concern that the winner would not be picked by the people that actually listened to the show.
Also, Larry at Gibbsville Unincorporated invested the time to listen and comment each and every day. Larry was also the first one that I seen that made the Kos connection. (Again, a blogger, not the “Old Media”)
Was the vote swayed by Kos voters? Of course it was. Was it frustrating to those of us that have invested the time to listen and vote? Of course it was. Did the Kos readers cheat? No, they didn’t violate any rules, it was the voting system that was flawed. This should have been thought out better, but the Kosites won this one. The losers are not those of us that invested the time, we will just move down the dial, the loser will probably be WISN whose ill-conceived selection process created this mess.
Thanks to Charlie for pointing out Cuprisin’s column. I enjoyed a chance to comment, but I doubt that the fossils in he Snail Media will ever understand Bloggers, so a thorough fisking would be wasted on them.
I like this new change, it gives me a chance to catch some of Sean Hannity’s radio show
