Awesome information on the new offensive in Iraq. This is a Must Read!
U.S. Marines accompanied by Iraqi security forces launched a new offensive early today aimed at regaining control of northern Babil province, a region just south of Baghdad beset by kidnappings, shootings and carjackings for more than a year. …
Terming it their first major post-Fallouja campaign to regain control of an insurgent-riddled area outside Baghdad, officials said they would continue a series of preplanned raids in towns and farming areas largely within a so-called “death triangle” of cities bordered by Latifiya, Mahmoudiya and Yousifiya. U.S. troops have also engaged in a series of counterattacks to quell resistance in Mosul, Baghdad and other towns in the wake of their offensive to regain control of the rebel stronghold of Fallouja.
“We are going to push the fight back out to the enemy while he’s reeling,” said Capt. Tad Douglas, 28, who led an elite reconnaissance platoon of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit in the raids. “We’ve seen fighters from Fallouja filtering down here, and we’re going to take the offensive while they’re still licking their wounds.”
Belmont Clubs story also talks about the weapons caches they have found
During their patrol, Soldiers from 2nd Battalion, 8th Field Artillery Regiment discovered huge stockpiles of weapons and munitions, including: an anti-aircraft gun, 15,000 anti-aircraft rounds, 4,600 hand grenades, 144 VOG-17M anti-personnel grenade launchers, 25 SA-7 surface-to-air missiles, 44 SA-7 battery packs, 20 guided missile packs, 21 120mm mortar rounds, two 120mm mortar tubes, 10 122mm rockets, six 152mm artillery rounds and two 57mm artillery rounds. Soldiers also discovered a building full of explosive-making materials. The three-acre site is secure and still under investigation with more weapons and munitions discoveries expected, Task Force Olympia officials said.

New treatment credited with curing rabies in 15-year-old girl
Associated Press
Nov. 23, 2004 05:11 PMWAUWATOSA, Wis. - Doctors say they used a unique combination of drugs to cure a 15-year-old girl of rabies, making her the first known human ever to survive the usually fatal disease without vaccination.
A team of doctors gambled on an experimental treatment and induced a coma in Jeanna Giese to stave off the rabies infection, said Dr. Rodney Willoughby, a pediatric disease infection specialist at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.
“No one had really done this before, even in animals,” Willoughby said. “None of the drugs are fancy. If this works it can be done in a lot of countries.”
advertisementOnly five people in the world before Giese are known to have survived the rabies virus after the onset of symptoms, said Dr. Charles Rupprecht, chief of the rabies section at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.
Those people had been vaccinated after exposure with a one-time injection of a drug called rabies immune globulin that contains antibodies against the virus, followed by five doses of rabies vaccines within 28 days.
Giese’s parents, John and Ann Giese, said they did not hesitate when doctors approached them about trying the experimental treatment. They already had been told their daughter likely would die.
“Miracles can happen,” John Giese said. “We believed it from day one. We had to convince everyone else.”

Our security services have thwarted four or five September 11-style attacks on targets including Canary Wharf and Heathrow Airport, according to a report.
One plot is said to have involved pilots being trained to fly into target buildings, including London’s famous financial centre and the world’s busiest airport.
It is one of a number of attacks planned by al-Qaeda since 9/11 that have come to nothing after the authorities intervened, the reports - which cite top security sources - claim.
The disclosure comes as the Government prepares to unveil a series of tough law-and-order Bills in this morning’s Queen’s Speech, setting out the legislative programme for what is expected to be the final session of the current Parliament.
Just a quick update, the killer is now saying that he was shot at first. The hunters that were shot claim they did return fire, but only after being shot at themselves.
The killer then took off his blaze 0range and changed into camoflage before running into the woods
Also, at least one of the hunters was shot in the back!
Bye Dan, don’t let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya!
Hope his partner is crime get’s forced out too
Rather will stay on until spring, not soon enough for me, but at least he’s on the way out
Go get ‘em guys!
More than 5,000 U.S., British and Iraqi troops launched an offensive Tuesday against a swath of territory south of Baghdad where armed insurgents have roamed through the streets, imposed stringent Islamic law and carried out kidnappings and summary executions at checkpoints along the main roads.
The campaign began with a series of raids this morning in Jabala, a town east of the most restive region, which Iraqis have dubbed the “Triangle of Death.” The U.S. military said in a statement that it had detained 32 men believed to be insurgents. In the past three weeks, it said, U.S. and Iraqi forces have arrested nearly 250 insurgents.
On Sept. 12, a girl was bitten by a rabid bat, only five people have survived once clinical symptoms from rabies appeared, but it looks like this tough kid is going to make it!
Jeanna Giese, 15, reported being bitten by a bat at church Sept. 12 after picking it up by its wings, and indicated that the wound had been thoroughly washed after the incident. She did not receive medical treatment after the bite. She was diagnosed with rabies on Oct. 19.
…Only five people have survived once clinical symptoms from rabies appeared, but each person had been immunized against the virus after being bitten, said Alan C. Jackson, an associate professor in the department of medicine at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. Each of those cases has been documented in peer review journals.
Early symptoms of rabies in humans include fever, headache and general malaise, but as the disease progresses, neurological symptoms appear and may include insomnia, anxiety, confusion, slight or partial paralysis, hallucinations and difficulty swallowing. Death usually occurs within days of the onset of symptoms.

“I’m concerned that I have offended many African Americans by using a crass term to describe an incompetent, dishonest, political appointee of the Bush administration,” he wrote. “I apologize. I know the term ‘Aunt Jemima’ is not complimentary to African American women who have worked so hard and yet receive so little from our great country.”
He went on that he “will not, however, apologize for pointing out that while Condoleeza Rice has clearly enjoyed the American Dream, she has allowed herself to be used as a black trophy by an administration who is working so hard to deny that dream to other African American women.”

Yikes, this comes from the guys at PowerlineBlog.com
The Chicago Tribune reports on the Marines’ continued exploration of terrorist hideouts in Fallujah. It’s horrifying reading-cages, blood, masks, blood-stained knives, bloody handprints on walls, facilities for torturing and murdering prisoners. Over it all, a banner that says: “There is no God but God.”
And this:
On a counter in the apparent bomb factory were a disassembled hand grenade, rubber gloves and numerous bottles of chemicals.
“This one says potassium cyanide,” said an Egyptian translator employed by the Marines. At that point Sunday afternoon, he was the only one who could talk.
Sodium cyanide, he continued reading. Sulfuric acid. Hydrochloric acid.
Eventually, Chief Warrant Officer Lee Fair, of the 1st Battalion, 8th Marines, said quietly, “Anyone that knew what they were doing could put these things together and make something very dangerous. Looks like [in the next room] they were trying to put crude weapons together.”
In that room, a hooded gas mask lay beside a large glass box, as did gloves, a carton of blasting caps and beakers full of chemicals. The floor was littered with broken glass and concrete chips blown out of the walls during the attack.
Last February, we reported on the discovery of cyanide salts in a house that was said to be used by Zarqawi in Baghdad. That find went down the memory hole. I don’t know what the destructive potential of the materials described above is. Maybe some chemists among our readers could enlighten us.
At a minimum, it is clear that the terrorists were making, or trying to make, chemical weapons in Fallujah. Where did the raw materials come from? Some cyanide salts have legitimate industrial uses, as I understand it, while others may not. Are they doing any metal plating in Iraq? I have no idea. Do materials like these count as “weapons of mass destruction,” or are they merely weapons of one-on-one brutality, like the bloody knives? Beats me; again, maybe our readers can help us. In any event, I hope the people that ran that hellish place-I don’t mean that as a metaphor-are dead. Even if it took two bullets to kill them
Posted 6:50pm
Every media outlet is now only calling the murder weapon “a Chinese made assault weapon”, they make it sound like the guy was running around with an AK47 or a machine gun when in fact he had a fairly common, low cost rifle designed in the 1930’s. Why don’t people understand that semi-automatic is NOT the same as an automatic like a machine gun?
Also, I heard a report (more like speculation in my opinion) that said to the effect, “hunters are territorial about their hunting land and feel they are the only ones that have a right to be there.” Well, in fact, those people DID have the right to be there since they were hunting with the land owner and it was posted Private Property!
Also, it’s not like the guy was feeling threatened by all these people with guns, the people that belonged there (the victims) only had one gun between them and the guy had walked away and was 40 yards before he turned around and started shooting. He’s just a cold blooded murderer, plain and simple.

OMG! Deer hunting is HUGE here in Wisconsin, something like this has Never happened before, I’m in shock by this!
The clock is running, how long before an anti gun or anti hunting freak uses this as a reason to ban guns?
Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the killings of five hunters Sunday in northwest Wisconsin — bloodshed apparently sparked by a dispute over a hunting spot. A suspect has been arrested.
“This is completely nuts,” said Chief Deputy Tim Zeigle of the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Department. “Why? I mean, five people dead because somebody was trespassing on property. It makes no sense.”

Former President Bush (41) was to get on a plane today, but it crashed in thick fog. Bush’s lucky day, condolences to those not so fortunate.
A private jet that was en route to Houston to pick up former President Bush clipped a light pole and crashed Monday as it approached Hobby Airport in thick fog, killing all three people aboard.
The Gulfstream G-1159A jet, coming into Houston, went down about 6:15 a.m. in an undeveloped area 1.50 miles south of the airport, officials said. The former president had been scheduled to travel to Ecuador for a conference.
“I was deeply saddened to learn of the plane crash this morning,” Bush said through spokesman Tom Freschette. “I’d flown with this group before and know them well. I join in sending heartfelt condolences to each and every member of their families.”
The names of the three crew members were not immediately released.
Bush, who lives in Houston, was going to give a lecture for the Guayaquil, Ecuador, Chamber of Commerce, Freschette said, adding, “It’s very sad.” He said he was to have accompanied Bush, as was a Secret Service agent.

Protester causes melee at DC baseball name unveiling
Mon Nov 22 2004 13:00:00 ETBaseball’s big party got thrown a curveball before it even began.
Officials from the sports world and the city government were in Union Station today to confirm what was already widely known — that the Expos are being re-named the Washington Nationals. But before the media event got underway, D-C Statehood Green Party member Adam Eidinger jumped onto the stage holding a sign protesting Mayor Tony Williams’ planned stadium deal.
Eidinger was jumped by several men, including former Washington Senators announcer Charlie Brotman. A tussle ensued, and the podium nearly fell over, before security managed to drag Eidinger off stage.
As for the new name, it’s not really that new. Baseball officials said there were teams named the Nationals in the 1870’s and 1880’s, and that the Senators were originally the Nationals from 1901 to 1956.
RATHERGATE UPDATE: Or non-update, as the case may be. It has now been two months since CBS President Andrew Heyward promised that the investigation would be over and public in “weeks, not months.”
It’s been months, now. Just another statement from CBS that turned out to be false?

WTMJ-AM radio host Charlie Sykes has entered into the Mark Belling debate, and not surprisingly, he has elected to attack me and is misleading the public. Not surprisingly as well, the author of “A Nation of Victims” has made Belling a victim while protecting him from the wrath of justice.
Sykes, rather than bring forth that good old conservative principle of accepting responsibility for your actions, decided to dedicate a portion of his radio show towards bellowing out his notions of what hate speech is and equating my creative hyperbole of Belling as a form of hate speech.

Prediction: Watch for Tommy Thompson here, he has always liked his trains, use to run Amtrak and is rumored to have another place in the administration waiting for him…Could it be?
Though Congress approved a $1.2 billion subsidy for Amtrak, the money-losing passenger railroad still is careening toward a major disruption in service.
To save it, the Transportation Department’s inspector general says, Congress must do more. Considering current Amtrak policies, says Inspector General Kenneth Mead, it’s up to lawmakers to determine what must go and what may stay to restructure Amtrak and stop the hemorrhaging.
“Without clear direction from the Congress, Amtrak has taken the position that it should essentially maintain the status quo,” Mead wrote in an assessment being released Monday.
“However, given the level of income from passengers, state contributions and federal subsidies, that decision has resulted in a form of Russian roulette, spreading capital much too thinly.”
Mead said it’s impossible to tell when the railroad will experience a major failure.

A new video game to be released on Monday allows players to simulate the assassination of U.S. President John F. Kennedy.
The release of “JFK Reloaded” is timed to coincide with the 41st anniversary of Kennedy’s murder in Dallas and was designed to demonstrate a lone gunman was able to kill the president.
“It is despicable,” said David Smith, a spokesman for Massachusetts Sen. Edward Kennedy, the late president’s brother. He was informed of the game on Friday but declined further comment.
Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist’s health is shrouded in mystery, the extent of his thyroid cancer a closely guarded secret. Several coming events could give the public an idea about the seriousness of his condition.
Since announcing his illness in a statement on Oct. 25, the 80-year-old Rehnquist has run the nation’s highest court from his home in suburban Virginia.
He rules on cases by reviewing transcripts of arguments and passing along his votes to justices. Opinions are largely researched and drafted by law clerks. Administrative tasks fall to a top aide.
The only update on his condition came in a short statement from the court three weeks ago. It said he was receiving chemotherapy and radiation treatments, which some doctors familiar with thyroid cancer said suggests Rehnquist has a fast-growing cancer.
Speculation about whether he will step down and give the court its first opening since 1994 has swirled since disclosure of the illness. Three events could offer telling signs of Rehnquist’s future after nearly 33 years on the high court, the last 18 as chief justice.

Ron Artest was suspended for the rest of the season Sunday as the NBA came down hard on three members of the Indiana Pacers for fighting with fans when a melee broke out at the end of a game against the Detroit Pistons.
Overall, nine players from the teams were banned for more than 140 games, including some of the harshest penalties the league ever issued. Artest is the first player to be suspended for nearly an entire season for a fight during a game.
“The message the league sent was so powerful to players that they’ll never do that again,” Pistons CEO Tom Wilson said.
Indiana’s Stephen Jackson was suspended for 30 games and Jermaine O’Neal for 25. Detroit’s Ben Wallace - whose shove of Artest after a foul led to the 5-minute fracas - drew a six-game ban, while Pacers guard Anthony Johnson got five games.

Kurt Bush won the season championship in the NASSCAR race today. His teammate Greg Biffel won the race, but Bush got enough points to win the Big Prize for the year.

Perhaps it’s because the Sunday New York Times and Washington Post were put to bed too early to catch the story, but neither has an account of President Bush’s rescue of the Secret Service agent in Santiago last night. However, both the Washington Times and New York Post carry stories on the incident today. The Washington Times story is not to be missed: “In role reversal, President Bush rescues Secret Service agent.”
You would think this would be news… Yet another reason to count on The New Media, even I had the story last night.

Microsoft Corp. warned Asian governments on Thursday they could face patent lawsuits for using the Linux operating system instead of its Windows software.
The growing popularity of Linux — an open-code software that is freely available on the Internet and easily modified by users — is a threat to the global dominance of Microsoft’s Windows.
Linux violates more than 228 patents, according to a recent report from a research group, Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer said at the company’s Asian Government Leaders Forum in Singapore.

SANTIAGO, Chile - President Bush (news - web sites) stepped into the middle of a confrontation and pulled his lead Secret Service agent away from Chilean security officials who barred his bodyguards from entering an elegant dinner for 21 world leaders Saturday night.
Several Chilean and American agents got into a pushing and shoving match outside the cultural center where the dinner was held. The incident happened after Bush and his wife, Laura, had just posed for pictures on a red carpet with the host of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (news - web sites) summit, Chilean President Ricardo Lagos and his wife, Luisa Duran.
As Bush stepped inside, Chilean agents closed ranks at the door, blocking the president’s agents from following. Stopping for more pictures, Bush noticed the fracas and turned back. He reached through the dispute and pulled his agent from the scrum and into the building.
The president, looking irritated, straightened his shirt cuffs as he went into the dinner. The incident was shown on APEC (news - web sites) television.
“Chilean security tried to stop the president’s Secret Service from accompanying him,” said White House deputy press secretary Claire Buchan. “He told them they were with him and the issue was resolved.”

It seems State Senator Spencer Coggs, a long time insider, was removed from a powerful comity and replaced with newcomer Sen.-elect Lena Taylor.
Coggs was incensed that Senate minority leader Judy Robson (D-Beloit) appointed Taylor over him.
“Only an old-line liberal would have picked the new person, who has absolutely no experience,” Coggs said.
He had served on the panel while a longtime member of the Assembly. He joined the Senate last year after defeating former Sen. Gary George in a recall election.
Coggs said he is now forced into playing the role of renegade, as (Gary) George had done, to get things accomplished. “I intend to fully explore my options,” Coggs said, when asked whether he’d consider siding with Republicans on votes.

He said it was just fine that he call Dr. Condi Rice Aunt Jamimah and Colon Powell Uncle Tom.Today he handed out pancake mix and syrup making light of it. He is still claiming that his black listener(s) have given him permission to say what he did and it wasn’t racist because he was aimed at one individual “like a laser beam” not describing a whole group of peple. Negative name-calling, especially with a term that harkens back to slavery, is disrespectful and not helpful to African-Americans, Ford said.

Talk about the Grinch that stole Christmas.
Target stores nationwide are banning the Salvation Army bell-ringers. The nation’s number two discount retailer behind Wal-Mart says the red kettles are no longer welcome outside their stores during the holidays. That move has many people upset with the retailer.
For many, the Salvation Army bell-ringers are simply a part of the Christmas season. Last year, the Army’s red kettle campaign raised about 90 million dollars nationwide to help the poor. Target stores helped raise nine million of that or 10 percent, by allowing the bell ringers to stand outside its entrances.
They may be trading Bell Ringers for picketers this holiday season.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Congress on Friday blocked state and local governments from taxing connections that link consumers to the Internet for the next three years.
“Enacting this legislation is a big win for the majority of American Internet users,” said House Judiciary Committee Chairman James Sensenbrenner, R-Wis.
The bill, passed by voice vote and sent to the president for his signature, blocks taxation of all types of Internet connections, from traditional dial-up services to high-speed broadband lines.
States that had started taxing Internet access before the first ban, enacted in 1998, can continue collecting those fees. States that tax speedy DSL lines must start phasing out the levies. The tax moratorium ends in November 2007.
The House voted last year to permanently ban taxes on Internet access, but it could not find enough support in the Senate, despite a strong push from the telecommunications industry.
The bill also blocks multiple state and local taxes from being imposed on merchandise purchased over the Internet.
Today is Wisconsin’s favorite son’s 63rd Birthday! Happy Birthday Tommy!
On other Tommy news, rumor is when he steps down as head of HHS, he may take a new position in the Administration. We all know he wanted Transportation, but I haven’t heard about Norm Mineta stepping down, so I wonder if there is anything to these rumors.
Today, I heard the first part of the Mark Belling Show and he was discussing the chance that the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee could possibly get a division 1A or 1AA team in the near future. it seems that there is talk of building a stadium of about 20,000 seat range in the vacant wasteland of the former Park East Freeway (Don’t get me started on that subject!) and getting UWM set up with a team over the next few years.
Wisconsin is one of the few, and I believe the only state our size to only have one Division 1 football program with no 1A, 1AA or Division 2 programs. As much as we love our football, and since we don’t have Packer games in town anymore (thanks again Bud Selig), would Milwaukee support a Division 1A or 1AA team?
A big question is how much support would they get from UWM students and more importantly, the alumni? Would they have a sugar daddy like Herb Kohl did for the new UW basketball fieldhouse? Is there a UWM alum that would shell out several million dollars to get the team started? UWM until recently, has shown no ability to get current and former students to care about the campus or activities, but things have gotten better with the emergence of the UWM Panthers basketball team. Could this grow to a football program?
Personally, I think this would be an awesome thing, I would support the team and I do believe that Milwaukee could put 15 to 20 thousand butts in the seats to watch decent football, I hop this plan moves forward! I do know it would take a few years to really build up a team to be any good, but we are a patient people, look at how long we have waited for the Brewers… 11 losing seasons and counting…

Radio Host Calls Rice ‘Aunt Jemima’
Fri Nov 19,12:33 AM ET U.S. National - AP
By JAMES A. CARLSON, Associated Press Writer
MILWAUKEE - A radio talk show host drew criticism Thursday after calling Condoleezza Rice (news - web sites) an “Aunt Jemima” and saying she isn’t competent to be secretary of state.
John Sylvester, the program director and morning personality on WTDY-AM in Madison, said in a phone interview Thursday that he used the term on Wednesday’s show to describe Rice and other blacks as having only a subservient role in the Bush administration.
Rice has served as President Bush (news - web sites)’s national security adviser and was named this week to replace the departing Colin Powell (news - web sites) as secretary of state.
Sylvester, who is white, also referred to Powell as an “Uncle Tom” — a contemptuous term for a black whose behavior toward whites is regarded as fawning or servile.
He said Thursday night that he was referring to remarks by singer and civil rights activist Harry Belafonte that the price of admittance for blacks to the Bush White House was subservience.
As for Rice, “they’re using her for an illusion of inclusion,” he said, adding that he feels her history as national security adviser showed a lack of competence.
Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz called the remarks “racially insensitive,” while Sen. Russ Feingold (news, bio, voting record), D-Wis., said in a statement he joined “all Wisconsinites in rejecting” the statements.
Linda Hoskins of the NAACP’s Madison branch said she could not comment on Sylvester’s remarks until she had heard them in their entirety.
The station’s corporate office received about 100 calls about his comments, Sylvester said.
He added that he has a long history of commitment to civil rights and has supported Madison’s black community.
He said he was planning a giveaway on Friday’s show of Aunt Jemima pancake mix and syrup. “I will apologize to Aunt Jemima,” he said.
The incident came after a radio host in Milwaukee had his talk show taken off the air all of last week after he used word “wetback” to refer to undocumented Mexican immigrants, sparking protests from Hispanics.
Looks like the RINO’s have won another
it’s not over yet, but his support is building as more GOP Senators ignore their constituents.
Sen. Arlen Specter won the support of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Republicans Thursday to be their chairman next year, surviving complaints from abortion opponents who lobbied to skip over him in favor of a conservative.
“I have assured the president that I would give his nominees quick committee hearings and early committee votes,” Specter said at a news conference where outgoing chairman Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, said the panel’s Republicans were unanimous in backing the Pennsylvania moderate.
“I have no reason to believe that I’ll be unable to support any individual President Bush finds worthy” of the federal bench, Specter told reporters.
The Microsoft Corp. chairman receives 4 million e-mails a day, but practically an entire department at the company he founded is dedicated to ensuring that nothing unwanted gets into his inbox, the company’s chief executive said Thursday.
“There are two people who probably are the number one spam recipients in the world,” Steve Ballmer said.
“Bill Gates (is first) because he is Bill Gates. Bill literally receives four million pieces of e-mail per day, most of it spam.”
Spam or junk e-mails are unsolicited messages, generally advertising goods or services and usually sent to many e-mail accounts simultaneously, often indiscriminately.
Ballmer said Microsoft has special technology that just filters spam intended for Gates.
“Literally there’s a whole department almost that takes care of it,” he said.
I don’t get 4 million, but as anyone with a public email address, I get my fair share, but I don’t have “a whole department almost that takes care of it”

Phishing is a scam that is used to steal your identity on line by fooling you into giving up your bank ID information, this is from this article, it tells the story of a lady that was taken by this scam. Bottom line, NEVER give passwords or identification information on line. If in doubt, go to your bank or make a call to see if you are being scamed, they will never need to ask you your personal information.
The first e-mail appeared to come from Bank One, warning that Mrs. Boyle’s account would be suspended unless she updated her information to conform with the company’s new anti-fraud measures. She clicked on the link that came with the e-mail and entered the data on the Web site. Then the money disappeared from her account.
Not long after that, she got another message that looked like it came from eBay. It warned of fraudulent activity on her account and urged her to verify her details. She handed over her bank account number, Social Security number and her mother’s maiden name — the keys to her identity.
Phishing scams usually start with an e-mail that looks like it comes from a bank, Internet service provider or e-commerce company. It often tells recipients that they need to update their account information by clicking on a link provided in the e-mail. If they do not, the mail warns, their accounts could be terminated or they could be subject to some other negative consequence. This, experts say, is because the Web sites remain online for only a few hours or days before investigators shut them down.
It is believed that our troops have discovered Zarqawi’s headquarters
U.S. soldiers discovered a house in southern Fallujah on Thursday believed to be a main headquarters for Jordanian-born militant Abu Musab Zarqawi, the leader of an insurgent network responsible for bombings, kidnappings and beheadings across Iraq.
A mural in the house indicated that it belonged to the al Qaeda organization. In the house, the soldiers found letters reportedly written by Zarqawi to his lieutenants, medical supplies from the U.S. Agency for International Development and boxes of ammunition from the Chinese and Jordanian armies and nearby they discovered medical supplies from the International Red Cross.
Here is an update from the earlier post about the Canadian Parliament member that has been a long time embarrassment.
Carolyn Parrish has been thrown out of the Liberal caucus by Prime Minister Paul Martin, who said Thursday that her behaviour had become “unacceptable.”
Ms. Parrish had capped a series of controversial statements with a denunciation Wednesday of Mr. Martin, an attack that shattered the rules of party etiquette.
After meeting with cabinet in Ottawa, Mr. Martin spoke briefly to reporters.
“After speaking with the caucus executive earlier this afternoon, I am announcing my decision, effective immediately, to dismiss Carolyn Parrish from the government caucus,” he said.
Mr. Martin, who did not take any questions, said that he had phoned Ms. Parrish to tell her personally.
“I told her that, while I have defended her right to express her views frankly, I cannot, as leader of our party and the government caucus, tolerate behaviour that demeans and disrespects others,” he said. “It is unacceptable. There are better, more civil and more effective ways to make your case than those she has chosen.”

First, I want to let you know that I have put all of the Racism posts of the past few days in it’s own category, Hypocrisy of the Left. All of these articles can be found at any time from the Category menu on the side bar.
Now back to the topic at hand:
Folks on the Left have been throwing around the term “Likudnik” to refer to any non-left-wing Jew who differs with them on foreign policy [UPDATE: Case in point], even when the relevant issue has nothing directly to do with Israel, Iraq being exhibit A (to the extent the insinuation is that these Jews supported the Iraq war to promote right-wing Israeli policies, I will reiterate the point that the Israeli military, diplomatic, and political establishment all urged the Bush Administration to focus its attention on Iran, not Iraq; besides, to the extent the right-wing Likud was pleased with the Iraq invasion, the left-wing Labor Party and the moderate Shinnui were equally pleased-Saddam Hussein didn’t exactly have a big fan club in Israel). [UPDATE: The same Jewish-and non-Jewish-neoconservatives who supported war in Iraq strongly supported military action in Bosnia, but I have yet to hear about the “Likudniks” pushing the Clinton Administration into that war.]
Not surprisingly, the phrase “Likudnik” is gradually becoming a general anti-Semitic term for Jews whose opinions one doesn’t like. Case in point, an email from one Matthew Hess sent to Eugene and me, thoughtfully, albeit tendentiously, critiquing a Cathy Young column I cited earlier this week, arguing that Bush voters are not “dumb.” UPDATE: It turns out that the “thoughtful critique” noted above comes from the blog “Lean Left,” not from the email author. The author cut and pasted the “Lean Left” critique without identifying it.

I join all Wisconsinites in rejecting certain recent remarks made by John Sylvester concerning two members of the President’s staff. While it is not my intention to comment on every extremely inappropriate remark made in our society, given the proximity to the unfortunate comments made by another member of the media, I feel it is necessary to completely reject and repudiate these recent comments.
Time to go back to work, Blog at ya later
Renegade Liberal MP Carolyn Parrish has once again enraged members of the opposition and her own caucus after tossing a George W. Bush doll on the floor and grinding it under her heel on a satirical television show.
Incensed Conservative MPs demanded that Ms. Parrish — who last year referred to Americans as “bastards” and more recently likened the U.S. war effort in Iraq to “a coalition of the idiots” — be banished from the Liberal caucus for her anti-American outburst.
Tory House leader John Reynolds said the incident sets the wrong example, particularly for children, and suggested “somebody like that needs some real help.”
He also said Prime Minister Paul Martin should “kick her out and make her sit as an independent. Sometimes integrity should win over minority government.”
But the outrage did not emanate only from the opposition benches.
Ontario Liberal MP Roger Gallaway called the stunt “bizarre and stupid,” and lamented Ms. Parrish’s theatrics as “a rather perverse joke.”
“It’s a pathetic spectacle that someone would behave in this fashion. I would expect more from infants. It’s rotten timing … and I would hope that she would consider mending her ways,” said Mr. Gallaway, who nonetheless argued against bouncing Ms. Parrish, a four-term MP who represents the Toronto-area constituency of Mississauga-Erindale.

Want to put the story behind the story on Belling in perspective? Get a tape of John “Sly” Sylvester’s show on WTDY from this a.m. Sly ripped the Condi Rice appointment, calling her an “Aunt Jemimah” who is just going to have to bow before Massahs Runsfeld and Bush like that Uncle Tom Colin Powell did.
Today Sly Sylvester called Charlie Sykes and not only confirmed but bragged about it stating he did nothing wrong. When Charlie asked if he thought it racist to call Dr. Rice Aunt Jemimah, stereotype regarded as a subservient black woman, Sly responded sarcastically “She IS a subservient black woman!
Sly also declared that “my black listeners have given me permission to use that term”, but the black callers to the Charlie Sykes show weren’t giving Sly the same permission that Sly claims to have, they were all outraged at the arrogance of this man.
Russ Finegold made a statement about the Belling incident so Sykes gave Finegold a chance to weigh in on this one too. Sly and Finegold seem to be friends and Sly introduced Finegold on election night, surprisingly Finegold issued a statement quickly and fully condemned Sylvester and his comment, it was a strongly worded statement and I’ll bet it came as quite a shock to ‘ol Sly.
Hopefully Charlie Sykes will blog about this today (his show just ended as of this post), I will link back to it. I also hope he posts the audio of his talk with Sly Sylvester so all can hear the condensation and overt racism displayed by this man!
From The Times of London via Instapundit.com
Such is the fear that the heavily armed militants held over Fallujah that many of the residents who emerged from the ruins welcomed the US marines, despite the massive destruction their firepower had inflicted on their city.
A man in his sixties, half-naked and his underwear stained with blood from shrapnel wounds from a US munition, cursed the insurgents as he greeted the advancing marines on Saturday night.
“I wish the Americans had come here the very first day and not waited eight months,” he said, trembling. Nearby, a mosque courtyard had been used as a weapons store by the militants. . . .
The same story of arbitrary executions was told by another resident, found by US troops cowering in his home with his brother and his family.
“They would wear black masks, carry rocket-propelled grenades and Kalashnikovs, and search streets and alleys,” said Iyad Assam, 24. “I would hear stories, about how they executed five men one day and seven another for collaborating with the Americans. They made checkpoints on the roads. They put announcements on walls banning music and telling women to wear the veil from head to toe.”
It was not just pedlars of alcohol or Western videos and women deemed improperly dressed who faced the militants’ wrath. Even residents who regard themselves as observant Muslims lived in fear because they did not share the puritan brand of Sunni Islam that the insurgents enforced.
This is one all of you wusses that think the Marine, the brave hero that shot that terrorist with the camera man looking on was wrong for killing that scum, read this if you have the guts! This is what those hero’s are doing each and every day!
From Powerline
Later on, I intend to link to several sources talking about the shooting of the wounded terrorist in Fallujah. For now, I want to pass on this email from a Marine in the 11th MEU:
This is one story of many that people normally don’t hear, and one that everyone does.
This is one most don’t hear:
A young Marine and his cover man cautiously enter a room just recently filled with insurgents armed with Ak-47’s and RPG’s. There are three dead, another wailing in pain. The insurgent can be heard saying, “Mister, mister! Diktoor, diktoor(doctor)!” He is badly wounded, lying in a pool of his own blood. The Marine and his cover man slowly walk toward the injured man, scanning to make sure no enemies come from behind. In a split second, the pressure in the room greatly exceeds that of the outside, and the concussion seems to be felt before the blast is heard. Marines outside rush to the room, and look in horror as the dust gradually settles. The result is a room filled with the barely recognizable remains of the deceased, caused by an insurgent setting off several pounds of explosives. The Marines’ remains are gathered by teary eyed comrades, brothers in arms, and shipped home in a box. The families can only mourn over a casket and a picture of their loved one, a life cut short by someone who hid behind a white flag.
But no one hears these stories, except those who have lived to carry remains of a friend, and the families who loved the dead. No one hears this, so no one cares.
This is the story everyone hears:
A young Marine and his fire team cautiously enter a room just recently filled with insurgents armed with AK-47’s and RPG’s. There are three dead, another wailing in pain. The insugent can be heard saying, “Mister, mister! Diktoor, diktoor(doctor)!” He is badly wounded. Suddenly, he pulls from under his bloody clothes a grenade, without the pin. The explosion rocks the room, killing one Marine, wounding the others. The young Marine catches shrapnel in the face.
The next day, same Marine, same type of situation, a different story. The young Marine and his cover man enter a room with two wounded insurgents. One lies on the floor in puddle of blood, another against the wall. A reporter and his camera survey the wreckage inside, and in the background can be heard the voice of a Marine, “He’s moving, he’s moving!”
The pop of a rifle is heard, and the insurgent against the wall is now dead. Minutes, hours later, the scene is aired on national television, and the Marine is being held for commiting a war crime. Unlawful killing.
And now, another Marine has the possibility of being burned at the stake for protecting the life of his brethren. His family now wrings their hands in grief, tears streaming down their face. Brother, should I have been in your boots, i too would have done the same.
For those of you who don’t know, we Marines, Band of Brothers, Jarheads, Leathernecks, etc., do not fight because we think it is right, or think
it is wrong. We are here for the man to our left, and the man to our right. We choose to give our lives so that the man or woman next to us can go home and see their husbands, wives, children, friends and families. For those of you who sit on your couches in front of your television, and choose to condemn this man’s actions, I have but one thing to say to you. Get out of your recliner, lace up my boots, pick up a rifle, leave your family behind and join me. See what I’ve seen, walk where I have walked. To those of you who support us, my sincerest gratitude. You keep us alive.
I am a Marine currently doing his second tour in Iraq. These are my opinions and mine alone. They do not represent those of the Marine Corps or of the US military, or any other.
Linda Ronstadt just doesn’t get it, does she? She is an entertainer (not a good one, but a washed up entertainer), if she had half a brain, she might be more, but by criticizing the majority of the country by calling us stupid, she is marginalizing her self even more.
Since she is a Liberal, this will not be deemed hate speech, right?
Hey! Where did all these Hitlers come from? Linda Ronstadt, hummin’ an outraged tune.
“People don’t realize that by voting Republican, they voted against themselves,” she says. Of Iraq in particular, she adds, “I worry that some people are entertained by the idea of this war. They don’t know anything about the Iraqis, but they’re angry and frustrated in their own lives. It’s like Germany, before Hitler took over. The economy was bad and people felt kicked around. They looked for a scapegoat. Now we’ve got a new bunch of Hitlers.”
Sykes shared a Waukesha Freeman article on the possibility that Lier Lazich may be forced out of her newly bought (with 30 pieces of silver) leadership position.
WILL LAZICH QUIT?
Is Mary Lazich on the way out? An intriguing story from the Waukesha Freeman reports that Lazich is under heavy pressure to drop her leadership jobs. The story, by Dennis Shook includes some sharp comments from Waukesha County GOP chairman Don Taylor and Senator Ted Kanavas:

DOUBLE STANDARD ALERT
Can this be true?
A listener from Madison writes:
Want to put the story behind the story on Belling in perspective? Get a tape of John “Sly” Sylvester’s show on WTDY from this a.m. Sly ripped the Condi Rice appointment, calling her an “Aunt Jemimah” who is just going to have to bow before Massahs Runsfeld and Bush like that Uncle Tom Colin Powell did.
Oddly enough, I’ve heard of no protests from the minority community demanding Sly be suspended or fired. Of course he’s a white liberal, and Rice is a black conservative, so I guess than makes it all OK.
I shudder to think of the reaction down there if you or Mark had used that term to describe Gwen Moore and belittle her election to congress.
If Condoleeza Rice was a Democrat, the media would have been full of stories today about how she’s is the political equivalent of Jackie Robinson. Since she’s a Republican they can call her and “Aunt Jemimah” and nobody (institutionally) bats an eye.
As a follow up to my earlier post, the American Leigon is demanding that the Pentagon not roll over and start fighting to support the Boy Scouts.
Liberals offended by the Boy Scouts’ moral code are now using “religious discrimination” as a tool to bludgeon the organization.
In response to a lawsuit filed in 1999 by the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois, the Pentagon has agreed to inform U.S. military bases worldwide that they may not directly sponsor Boy Scout troops — because the Boy Scouts require a belief in God.
“If our Constitution’s promise of religious liberty is to be a reality, the government should not be administering religious oaths or discriminating based upon religious beliefs,” ACLU spokesman Adam Schwartz was quoted as saying after the Pentagon agreed to settle the case.
But the head of the nation’s largest veterans organization says the Pentagon should “stand firm” against the ACLU in its campaign against the Boy Scouts.
In a “strongly worded letter” to Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, American Legion National Commander Thomas P. Cadmus wrote, “The idea that sponsorship of Scouting by American military units is ‘unconstitutional’ goes beyond the absurd, even well past the point of stupidity.”
These were brought to light by Rush, the racism is so clear, yet none of them will be called on it because they are Liberals, let a Conservative try this and…well, just ask Mark Belling! There is no respect at all for Dr. Rice, it’s disgusting when you see just how racist these people truly are.

And then there is this story in The Mirror:
IF THERE were a monkey in the White House - and many reckon there is - then his trainer would be the world’s most powerful person.
In the case of George W Bush, almost everything he knows about foreign policy has been learnt from Condoleezza Rice.

Here are a few quotes from the Chrenkoff story, but I urge you to go read the full story
The most historic shift in Poland’s international orientation in a half a millennium has been taking place in recent times. A staunch Atlanticist, a faithful ally both in the war on terror and in Iraq, and one of the few countries in the world that names streets and public squares after right-wing American presidents, it’s hard to imagine that until quite recently - in historic terms - of all the Western states, Poland was most closely associated and allied with France.
Several decades later and the French are still causing indigestion in Washington and London, but the Poles are definitely in the in-crowd now. It’s time again to celebrate the contribution of Polish fighter pilots among “the few” in the Battle of Britain, and the courage of Generals Kosciuszko and Pulaski in the American War of Independence (or for that matter sacrifice of Polish artillerymen at Alamo). And let’s forget that Polish glassmakers were the first workers to go on strike in America in 1608 - albeit to fight for the right to vote. Oh, and the Polish jokes are definitely out.
Strategically, Poland’s American reorientation has everything to do with the Cold War history. Post 1945, the United States has become everything that France was not anymore - a great power, an anti-communist bastion, the leader of the Free World. Those of us who lived on the wrong side of the Iron Curtain in the shadow of the Evil Empire, the evil, capitalist, imperialist America was our only champion and the only hope. France was a nice country, to be sure, but its choice of moral equivalence as the guiding principle of foreign policy could not but to leave us largely cold; it was all fine for the French to talk about the need to balance the two superpowers while enjoying all the benefits of association with one and none of the costs of domination by the other.
This sentiment that France, unlike the United States, has done preciously little to liberate the Eastern Europe from under the communist yoke, merely built up on an already very common perception of France as an appeaser of the other totalitarian threat. As Bulgarian Foreign Minister Solomon Pasi remarked last year at the height of the Old Europe-New Europe controversy over Iraq: “We all remember the hesitancy of the Allies, who weren’t sure whether to attack Hitler. They could have prevented so much.” Poland, in particular, has good reason to to resent the French inaction in September 1939 which allowed Hitler to strip his western border of military units and supplies and throw them into his first eastern blitzkrieg. Albion might be historically perfidious, but Gaul was at best an unreliable friend.
Poles might still think first of France when they want high culture, good food and nice holidays, but defence and international affairs; well, that’s a long distance call.

It’s not only killing the babies…
“How many more deaths is it going to take before the FDA takes action to remove this drug from the market?” said Monty Patterson, 51, of Livermore, California.
His 18-year-old daughter, Holly, died on September 17, 2003, of septic shock caused by inflammation of the uterus. The teen took RU-486 on September 10 to terminate an unplanned pregnancy, Patterson said.
At least two other American women who took the pill in the United States died, although the FDA says it is unclear if their deaths were directly related to the pill’s use.
Those three deaths were among 676 adverse events reported through November 5 by women who used the pregnancy-termination pill. The reports include women who felt sick and dizzy to more serious illnesses that required hospitalization, according to the FDA.
Seventeen women who used RU-486 had tubal pregnancies; the drug is not to be used in women with suspected or confirmed ectopic pregnancies. Another 72 women bled so heavily after using the pregnancy-termination pill that they required blood transfusions. And seven women suffered serious bacterial infections, including sepsis.
…Since the drug was approved, the agency has received reports of serious bacterial infection, bleeding, ectopic — tubal — pregnancies that have ruptured and death. The fatalities including a death from sepsis, a severe infection, recently reported to FDA and leading to the revised black box.
A few excerpts from the CNN.com story.
The people at eBay were no believers in this cheesy miracle: half of a 10-year-old grilled cheese sandwich whose owner claimed it bore the image of the Virgin Mary.
Diana Duyser put the sandwich up for sale last week, drawing bids as high as $22,000 before eBay pulled the item Sunday night. The page was viewed nearly 100,000 times before being taken down.
… On Tuesday, the Web site allowed bidding to resume, with the top offer reaching over $16,000. Bidding is scheduled to end Monday.
…”After looking at it a second time, there’s nothing to indicate that the seller isn’t willing to give up this cheese sandwich to the highest bidder,” he said. “We’re going to allow it to stay up.”
In mocking response, two similar items were posted later — grilled cheese sandwiches bearing the images of the Virgin Mary’s used chewing gum and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.
Duyser thought eBay would be the best place to show off the sandwich, made on plain white bread with American cheese. It was cooked with no oil or butter.
Duyser, 52, said she took a bite after making it 10 years ago and saw a face staring back at her from the bread. She put the sandwich in a clear plastic box with cotton balls and kept it on her night stand.
Kmart is buying Sears in an $11 billion deal that industry watchers say could shake up the mall-based landscape by creating a low-priced shopping haven for consumers. “Imagine going into Kmart and buying a Sears Craftsman tool set, or buying Kmart’s Martha Stewart home products at Sears. This deal will take the loyal shoppers of each retailer and cross-pollinate them with familiar brands from each store,” said retail analyst Marshal Cohen.
