The TV show 24 made a boo-boo, a phone number that came up on a cell phone and people around the country paused the picture (the power of TIVO) and called the number, it seems that it was the real number to their prop room at the studio. So far about 50,000 phone calls have come into that number ![]()
Please oh please! And a Hillery/Feingold ticket…Could we ask for more?
Dean wins backing of state Democratic chairs
Howard Dean won the backing of state Democratic Party leaders Monday, putting him in a strong position to win the chairmanship of the Democratic National Committee.“If all of our members vote for him, that will be half of what he needs to win the chairman’s job,” said Mark Brewer, chairman of the Association of State Democratic Chairs.
Charlie Sykes: TWO QUERIES TO THE BLOGOSPHERE
This is admittedly insider stuff, but here goes anyway:
Query One: Why no interest in Doyle’s handling of school choice in the blogosphere?
Query Two: What’s the next step in promoting the new — very active — WI Blogosphere? I’m open to suggestion. The MSM will ignore this development as long as they can, but that shouldn’t deter us. (Either post your replies — I read your stuff — or email me…)
You are right Charlie, we need to raise more attention over Jim Doyle’s treatment of Milwaukee’s inner city youth. With his killing of the “Enrollment Caps”, thousands of students will be “expelled” from the schools that they love and that are working wonders for them, all because their parents can’t afford to send them to these better schools…the way Jim Doyle does. We learned today that Jim Doyle is holding a party for Wayland Academy, the very exclusive school that he sent his kid to.
If what Doyle is doing now was done by a Republican, he would be called a racist, but since Doyle is a liberal Democrat, he get’s a pass. Thanks for raising this question Charlie, it is something I have been interested in but admit that I haven’t said much, but I’ll work on it.
As for what’s next for the Wisconsin Blogosphere, great question. Several of us are now in contact with each other and the Badger Blog Alliance has become a sort of group blog while we each still retain out primary blogs. The BBA, along with our email contact, allows us to pick each others minds and share information.
What’s next? I’m ready for anything! Maybe a full page add in the Journal Sentential, they can’t ignore that, can they? ![]()
Charlie Sykes: THIS STORY JAZZES ME
From JSonline today:Road Runner service speed to increase
Time Warner Cable announced Monday that it’s boosting the speed of its Road Runner Internet service this week.
The company will increase the maximum speed of its basic high-speed Internet access from 3 megabits per second to 5 megabits per second, and
subscribers of the premium package will see a surge from the current top speed of 6 megabits per second to 8 megabits per second. The speed increases will be phased in over the week and will not require home visits from Time Warner technicians, according to a Time
Warner spokeswoman.Bring it on. Blogging at and even faster rate….
We know Doyle will veto this, but will the few remaining Democrats be able to block the veto override? We all know that this has overwhelming public support, will the Dem’s have the fortitude to stand against the public to support Doyle?
TheMilwaukeeChannel.com - News - State Republicans Want To Require Voters To Have ID Card
Wisconsin voters would have to present a state-issued identification card before casting their ballots under a proposal Republican lawmakers released Monday. The legislation is similar to a bill the Legislature approved last year. But Gov. Jim Doyle vetoed it.
Doyle has already expressed his opposition to the bill, but Republican Rep. Jeff Stone said he believes reports of voting irregularities in Milwaukee will generate more support for the legislation this time.
Currently, voters who are already registered don’t have to present any identification before casting their ballots.
Those not already on the voter rolls are allowed to register in person up to Election Day if they have a utility bill, lease or other documentation listing their addresses.
3 sisters perish in Sunday blaze
Three young sisters were killed in a fire early Sunday - the latest victims whose lives might have been saved by working smoke detectors, fire officials said.Killed were Iralisha S. Hinton, 6; Zaria I. Hudson, 3; and Zacarra A. Hinton, 2.
“They were my only babies,” said their mother, Aleisha K. Hudson, 22. “They’re all I got. I don’t know how I’m going to live without them.”
The detectors in the home…, where the three children died, didn’t have batteries, 5th Battalion Chief Leo Harper of the Milwaukee Fire Department said.
“We sing the same song over and over again,” Harper said. “Smoke detectors, smoke detectors, smoke detectors.”
Batteries are so cheap, go replace yours today!
I can’t wait until the State Of The Union speech! Bush is riding high and I can’t wait for that little smirk and twinkle in his eye as he says “The state of our union is STRONG!”
That’s it Russ, Kerry lost because he wasn’t liberal enough
At least Feingold won’t have to do the Kerry spin on the “I voted for, before I voted against” BS since he has never supported anything that President Bush has done.
Feingold is probably THE most liberal man in the federal government, he’s the only one that opposed the Patriot Act and now he is calling for the Federal Death Penalty to be ended…
The Daytona Beach News-Journal: West Volusia
One of President Bush’s most vocal opponents in the Senate is weighing a 2008 run for the presidency.U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold, D-Wis., told the Tiger Bay Club of Volusia County on Friday that he’ll decide whether to run after “going around the country” working to return a Democrat to the White House.
In Bush’s first term, Feingold opposed the president’s policies on the Iraq war, USA Patriot Act, Medicare reform, education policy, environmental regulation and abortion rights. He made clear he was leaving his own presidential options open after a club member asked if he plans to run.
This is the evil we are fighting against! My God, what animals!

Will the King of the Plea Bargain plea bargain this one? Will Milwaukee County District Attorney E. Michael McCann reduce charges against the alleged Democratic tire-slashers from felonies to misdemeanors?Reasons to think he will plea bargain: He always plea bargains. McCann has never met a deal he didn’t like. McCann’s philosophy is to get as many convictions as possible, without regard to their severity. In addition, since two of the defendants are sons of U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore, D-Milwaukee, and former Milwaukee Mayor Marvin Pratt, McCann will be under heavy pressure to avoid the publicity of trials that will embarrass Moore and Pratt. In addition, reducing the charges to misdemeanors will save the sons of Moore and Pratt from having to do any prison time.
Reasons to think he will not plea bargain: McCann is finally on the hot seat. State Republican leaders have publicly demanded tough charges and a cave-in here would permanently expose McCann as a fixer for local Democratic corruption. His decisions to not file charges in illegal 2000 and 2004 vote-fraud operations and the failure to criminally charge the New York “smokes for votes” mastermind have infuriated Republicans. If McCann takes another dive, they’ll go nuts. Besides, the case against the five men seems airtight.
Call me naive (I’ve been called everything but that) but I’m guessing McCann sticks to his guns. He has a security guard’s eyewitness account and the four main prosecution witnesses are Democratic operatives who have no reason to lie. The real question will be if the five Democratic henchmen will be sentenced to prison.
Go read the whole thing, it get’s better.
~sigh~ Why does this not surprise me.
Here are past posts I have made on this boondoggle.
JS Online: DOT chief had stock in company
When Acting Transportation Secretary Tom Carlsen in 2002 gave a former employer part of a $600,000, no-bid contract to build a Web site, he held more than $20,000 of stock in the firm.Carlsen’s HNTB Corp. holdings did not make his decision on the site a violation of the state’s conflict-of-interest laws for public officials, said Jonathan Becker, a lawyer with the state Ethics Board.
Those laws bar public officials from weighing in on matters in which they have a “substantial financial interest.” Becker said a contract worth $545,558 - HNTB’s cut of the Web site deal - would be unlikely to affect the stock price of HNTB, an employee-owned firm that had $480 million in gross revenue in 2002.
Carlsen approved the contract after state workers determined that they could do the job, in conjunction with contractors, for $460,000, about 25% less than the consultant’s initial estimate. Carlsen said he did not believe the state could get the site done on time if it kept the job in-house.
The Ethics Board reviewed the matter this week after the Journal Sentinel raised questions about Carlsen’s stock ownership.
“Our primary focus was whether Carlsen benefited financially from the Web site contract, and we have found no evidence he did,” Becker said.
Others said the Web site deal doesn’t look right.
By their own rhetoric over the past 30 years, we should have been extinct from both an ice age and global warming by now. Do they realize that people laugh at them when they come out with this stuff?
‘Dangerous’ Global Warming Possible by 2026
World temperatures could surge in just two decades to a threshold likely to trigger dangerous disruptions to the earth’s climate, the WWF environmental group said on Sunday. It said the Arctic region was warming fastest, threatening the livelihoods of indigenous hunters by thawing the polar ice-cap and driving species like polar bears toward extinction by the end of the century.
“If nothing is done, the earth will have warmed by 2.0 Celsius (3.6 Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial levels by some time between 2026 and 2060,” the WWF said in a report.

The man replacing the mayor of Baghdad - who was assassinated for his pro-American loyalties - says he is not worried about his ties to Washington. In fact, he’d like to erect a monument to honor President Bush in the middle of the city.
“We will build a statue for Bush,” said Ali Fadel, the former provincial council chairman. “He is the symbol of freedom.”
Fadel’s predecessor, Ali al-Haidari, was gunned down Jan. 4 when militants opened fire on his armor-covered BMW as it traveled with a three-car convoy.
Fadel said he received numerous threats on his life as the council chairman, and expects to get many more in his new post.
“My life is cheap,” Fadel said. “Everything is cheap for my country.”
As Iraq prepared for a volatile election that is being watched across the world, Fadel heaped praise on the United States.
Fadel acknowledged that many in his country appear ungrateful for America’s foreign assistance. He said most Iraqis are still in “shock” over the changes, and need time to adjust.
Any public monument to Bush is likely to further incense terrorist forces, who have attacked American troops and their supporters for months.
Fadel said he is undaunted.
“We have a lot of work and we are especially grateful to the soldiers of the U.S.A. for freeing our country of tyranny,” Fadel said.
As for his own protection, the new mayor will be traveling in a new $150,000 SUV complete with bulletproof windows and flat-resistant tires.

Once again, we are reading story after story about vote fraud that didn’t happen in the November elections instead of reading stories about the voter disenfranchisement that actually did happen. One has to admire the Republican success in promoting a nonexistent issue to the news media. But the media really should spend more time covering the real election problems instead of fraudulent Republican claims.
McNally rambles on about how the Republicans are making fraudulent claims of fraud, I knew this was coming after hearing him on Mark Bellings TV show, listen in to see how this crazy liberal thinks. The man is insane.
