Tuesday, May 31st, 2005

I found these at RightVoices.com and is gives you a look at how patriotic (or unpatriotic) the two American political parties are…It looks like the DNC forgot that this was Memorial Day weekend, a day set aside to remember our fallen troops.

Walker Fires Back

Tuesday, May 31st, 2005

Scott Walker has posted on his Blog, a response to the JS Editorial by Michael D’Amato

Taking Heat for Tax Freeze
It is amazing to read just how far liberals will go to try and discount the public revolt against high property taxes. Milwaukee Alderman Michael D’Amato wrote a column in the Crossroads section of my local daily paper that attacks a property tax freeze and makes some very misleading arguments. Some of these are similar to comments posted elsewhere on the blog, so I see fit to respond here.

Go read the whole thing…Go get’em Scott.

U.W. Stout reverses ROTC decision

Tuesday, May 31st, 2005

U.W. Stout has reversed its decision to keep the ROTC off campus. (Details can be found in Topic 3)

It seems that they found out that their federal dollars may have been at risk… Never get between an Educrat and his tax dollars ;)

This seems to be the very first words that the Milwaukee paper has ever written on this topic. Until now, this has been a non-story to them.

JSOnline: Day Watch
The chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Stout has reversed his earlier decision to prevent an Army ROTC program from being established on the campus, citing earlier UW System regent policies and federal law.

Chancellor Charles Sorensen, who announced the reversal today after two weeks of criticism from Republican legislators and others, said he remains concerned about the ROTC programs position on “banning people because of their stated sexual orientation.”

Nonetheless, he insisted the change was not a result of “external political pressure,” but rather that the school could not violate regent policies or federal laws. UW-Stout could have lost significant federal funding if it barred the program.

Unanimous Supreme Court overturns Andersen conviction - May. 31, 2005

Tuesday, May 31st, 2005

The case against the accounting firm Arthur Andersen (shredding Enron records) has been unanimously rejected by the U.S. Supreme Court. The jury instructions were so bad that a rare 9-0 decision came down very fast.

Unanimous Supreme Court overturns Andersen conviction - May. 31, 2005
The Supreme Court unanimously threw out the conviction Tuesday of fallen accounting firm Arthur Andersen, a symbolic victory for a nearly defunct company torn apart in a document-shredding case involving onetime energy giant Enron.

But the ruling represents a major defeat for the federal government’s aggressive efforts to fight corporate wrongdoing.

In a 9-0 opinion, the justices concluded “jury instructions at issue simply failed to convey the requisite consciousness of wrongdoing.” Chief Justice William Rehnquist wrote the opinion, saying, “Indeed, it is striking how little culpability the instructions required.”

The opinion came unusually quickly after oral arguments in the case were held April 27, a clear sign the justices found the government’s arguments quite unpersuasive. Lawyers for the Justice Department faced tough questioning from the bench during the arguments.

The ball is back in the local court’s hands, no word yet on whether or not there will be a retrial.

Deep Throat identified

Tuesday, May 31st, 2005

Vanity Fair has reported that W. Mark Felt, the #2 guy at the FBI, was Deep Throat, and Felt has confirmed that this is true.

Ex-FBI official says he’s ‘Deep Throat’
W. Mark Felt, who retired from the FBI after rising to its second most senior position, has identified himself as the “Deep Throat” source quoted by The Washington Post to break the Watergate scandal that led to President Nixon’s resignation, Vanity Fair magazine said Tuesday.

“I’m the guy they used to call Deep Throat,” he told John D. O’Connor, the author of Vanity Fair’s exclusive that appears in its July issue.

Felt, now 91 and living in Santa Rosa, Calif. reportedly gave O’Connor permission to disclose his identity.

A new week begins

Tuesday, May 31st, 2005

Sorry about the light posting the past few days, it seems that the entire internet was slow…A nice three day spring weekend, I wonder why :)

Actually I hardly left the house this weekend…I know, I really do need a life  but I did get some thing accomplished, a full reinstall of Windows and resetting my PC with all the goodies I wanted was something that REALLY needed to be done. This kept me busy enough that I didn’t have a lot of time to blog, but now I feel that need…So I’ll be back :)

I’ll be getting back into the swing of things later today, just wanted to drop this quick note before heading back to work.

Oh, and don’t forget to swing over to MKE Online and vote for your favorite Blogger.

I would like to propose a toast

I would like to propose a toast

Please join me in raising my glass in honor of the outstanding work done by Milwaukee’s weather forecasters. Here’s to you Mark Baden, John Malon, Sally Severson, Vince Condella, Brian Bledsoe and all the rest!

As late as Friday afternoon, we heard that the holiday weekend would be cloudy, cool and rain & mid 60’s every day, in a word, it was going to be a rotten holiday weekend. In reality, it has been a beautiful, sunny, warm three days without so much as a cloud in the sky…So much for the rain, huh?

So join me in raising my glass high in honor of our local meteorologists (meteoroliegists?)…before dumping our drinks over their heads!

Danica Patrick

Sunday, May 29th, 2005

Wow, congratulations Danica Patrick! She came in 4th in the Indianapolis 500!

Dan Weldon won the race and had to be pushed back to the victory circle because he ran out of gas. He is the first Englishman to win the 500 since the 60’s.

Sexual Predator Placement Update

Sunday, May 29th, 2005

Milwaukee county residents and others in South Eastern Wisconsin really need to check Franklin Alderman Steve Olson’s page dealing with predator placement. It sounds like Stojkovic doesn’t want us to find out what he is up to. We can not allow these people exempt themselves from open records & meeting laws that were put in place so the voters can see what out government is doing! This can not be allowed to stand.

Sexual Predator Placement
Through comments made at the last committee meeting, there will be an effort to keep the public in the dark about the contents and slant of the report.

Committee members have asked for a closed session to discuss the report.

Committee members have requested that the draft NOT be subject to the open records (and meetings) laws that have been put in place to guarantee that the public knows what their government is doing.

Citizens for a Safe Franklin is investigating their legal rights to assure that the document be open to public scrutiny. I’ll be working with the Franklin City Attorney and our Special Counsel on the same issue.

Check his site for full details and keep informed so they can’t ram this down out throats. Steve and Citizens for a Safe Franklin have been working hard on this issue from the beginning. we can’t let this board slam the door in their faces and work in secret.
