Potawatomis refuse to pay

Thursday, June 30th, 2005

Charlie Sykes points out that the Potawatomis say they will not make their payment to the state for their casino.

Charlie Sykes: GAMBLING CONTINUES, PAYMENTS STOP

As far as I am concerned, this means that law enforcement can and should shut them down, right? They are making hundreds of millions of dollars and now they refuse to pay the pitiful amount they owe the state for allowing them to have the only casino in Milwaukee…. Shut ‘em down!

Iranian President was part of hostage group

Thursday, June 30th, 2005

Several of the men that were held hostage for 444 days by terrorists in Iran in 1979-80 have identified Iran’s new President as one of their hostage takers and interrogators. One of these men, a Milwaukee area native, Kevin Hermening spoke with WTMJ’s Charlie Sykes about this. Please take the time to listen to this interview, Kevin was the youngest hostage, a 20 year old Marine guard at the embassy, he is very knowledgeable about Iranian politics and terrorism, he was an outstanding interview.

The Bummer of the day

Thursday, June 30th, 2005

I haven’t Blogged about this at all, but I have been following this story closely, it is about the amazing teenager named Lexi Georgeff, she was born with a stomach that couldn’t digest food, so she needed a stomach, intestines, liver and pancreas. She has been flying between the Milwaukee area and Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh, where the transplant team was. Even with the setbacks, Lexi and her family were so upbeat.

Lexi has come so close several times, including just a few days ago, but while she was on the table, they discovered that the organs were not viable. She was ready to come back to her home to wait some more when another donor became available. The surgery was underway when they discovered an infection. By that point it was to late to stop.

At Lexi’s website, the last update as of this post is that she is in surgery, but at 9:30 p.m. Lexi’s poor body just couldn’t take any more and she passed away.

JS Online: Cedarburg teen dies during transplant surgery
Lexi Georgeff, the Cedarburg teen who needed a multiple organ transplant to save her life, died during surgery Wednesday night at Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh, a family spokesman said.

As the 14-year-old was undergoing a multivisceral transplant, including stomach, intestines, liver and pancreas, doctors discovered an infection they were unaware of before the surgery, family spokesman Todd Merryfield said.

“The trauma was too much for her,” he said.

Once they began the procedure, they had to continue, he said, even after discovering the infection. He received the call that Lexi died about 9:30 p.m.

On Saturday, July 2nd, there was a scheduled fund raising event, this event is still on, it will become a celebration of her all too short life. It will be at Fireman’s Park in Cederburg Wi.

Good discussion going on

Thursday, June 30th, 2005

The Badger Blog Alliance has a good discussion of the little covered Supreme Court decision that makes it illegal to sue a police department if someone violates a restraining order. It is drifting to a discussion of Wisconsin’s Concealed Carry debate. Check out the posts and the comments.

I feel a laptop coming into my life

Wednesday, June 29th, 2005

I think today is the day I cut the cord from my desk top PC’s. I have been thinking of getting a laptop for some time now and I think today is the day :)
I will never give up the speed and size of my desk tops, but I have been itching to take a laptop ‘out on the town’.

I do have a “toy” laptop, an ancient Toshiba that I have been messing with, it runs Win 95, no internet access or even CD ROM, but it allowed me to do basic things and save them to floppies and move them to the real PC, but I want to do more! I want to sit at one of the many internet cafe’s that have sprouted up around town, and check my email and blog and …well, just blogging will make me happy

I have never used WiFi, so I’m excited to give it a try :)

The Blog Reporting Kit I want

Ever since I started Blogging, I have wanted to get a laptop and everything I would need to make my blogging better and more professional. Below I have linked to several posts that I have saved because they have given me good ideas.

I pretty much have everything I need for a “Blog Reporter Kit” that I have really been looking forward to, I just needed the laptop. Personally, I will add to mine a small tv band radio and with my Audio Recording Wizard I will be able to better add audio clips. I already have things like a digital audio recorder, digital cam, headset/mic, USB jump drive, USB hub, a nifty USB “goose-neck” type light and probably a few other goodies that can be added. I will need to pick up a small laptop mouse, the touchpad is not something I am looking forward to. I do have a hand held “finger mouse” and after using it for a few minites, it really works well.

I aslo have enough software to keep me going, I can run Audasity if need be, but I do 90% of my audio editing right from my Audio Recording Wizard. You can also edit audio as well as video right in Windows Movie Maker, this only saves to .wmv (.wma for audio) but it can be converted to other formats easily enough. For still images, Irfanview does almost everything I need, is easy to use and free, but I do have more advanced photo editing software too if needed.

Here are a few other “kit” posts from Instapundit — Nano goes to Washington — Belmont Club

I’ll probably expand on this as time goes on…Now I’m getting excited LOL

The Golden Eagles, the failed former nick name for the Marquette sports teams…Is again the new name… What a joke the once proud Marquette University has become thanks to Fr. Wild and the weak, ineffective board.

The polls, where are the polls now?

Wednesday, June 29th, 2005

Charlie Sykes asked a great question this morning, when is the last time a President made a major speech and the media didn’t run over night polls? There seem to be none today…Why?

We know why the polls aren’t all over the front pages, it is because they will not show what the MSM (Main Stream Media) want, each time President Bush speaks the way he did last night, the American people feel pride and support grows, and heaven forbid they show positive news.

Once again, we see that the MSM decides what is, and what is not news, they do it by what they chose to cover, and most importantly, what they chose not to cover.

Political Odd Couple — Together Again

Wednesday, June 29th, 2005

I still chuckle and shake my head when I see these two together.

Ex-Presidents Bush, Clinton Play Golf - Yahoo! News
Former Presidents Bush and Clinton teed off Tuesday for a round of golf on the second day of a get-together by the former political foes at Bush’s summer home along the Maine coast.

Chatting briefly with reporters near the first tee at Cape Arundel Golf Club, Bush and Clinton said their friendly relationship should demonstrate to people at home and abroad that political rivalries need not stand in the way of personal friendship.

The two former presidents cemented their friendship earlier this year when the current
President Bush appointed them to head up fund-raising to assist victims of the Asian tsunami.

“We found that when we traveled abroad, people said this couldn’t have happened in their country. The equivalent of a Republican and a Democrat — this never would happen. Well, it doesn’t have to be that way,” the elder Bush said.

“You can feel strongly about your principles, and we do, and we differ on a lot of issues, but that’s not what tsunami relief was about and it’s not what life ought to be about,” he added.

Congratulations Travis Diener

JS Online: Magic makes Diener toast of the town
Fond du Lac’s favorite son, Travis Diener, had achieved his lifelong dream.

Years of blood, sweat and tears shed on basketball courts both in the Fox River Valley and around the country paid off for the 6-foot-1, 165-pound point guard Tuesday night when the Orlando Magic picked Diener early in the second round, No. 38 overall.

Possible Ethics investigation of another board member.

Wednesday, June 29th, 2005

Milwaukee County Supervisor Paul Cesarz is in a bit of hot water, it seems that he has failed to disclose some properties he owns jointly through a corporation. He says he didn’t know he needed to disclose properties owned by the corporation, however, he has disclosed the corporation it’s self. The company buys ‘distressed’ homes to rehabilitate. There have been some minor code violations on a few of the properties they own, but they are working to make thing better.

My feeling is that this is just an attempt to distract from Lee Holloway and his 90 ethics violations.

JS Online: Supervisor failed to report holdings
Milwaukee County Supervisor Paul Cesarz, who helped spur the ethics inquiry into Board Chairman Lee Holloway’s property dealings, has himself failed to publicly disclose multiple properties he co-owns with former board colleague Alvin “Bud” Endries, public records show.

Building code violations and neighbors’ complaints have documented problems with uncut grass, unplowed snow and broken doors, windows and gutters at two of the six properties they have purchased since late 2003 under the company name C&E Investment Properties.

The end of the Marquette fiasco

Tuesday, June 28th, 2005

Tomorrow 6/28, Marquette will announce the winner…well, sorta… of the name change (if they change) contest. yawn

Sentry food stores are starting a new ad campaign that plays off of this fiasco, it is really funny, give it a listen.

The Speech

Tuesday, June 28th, 2005

The White House has posted the Presidents speech.

We Energies

Tuesday, June 28th, 2005

We Energies won their case in the State Supreme Court. A group of environmentalist wackjobs found a judge across the state to stop construction of a much needed power plant, but the Supreme Court slapped down that judge and the wackos.

The cost of this delay of some 4 months was probably in the millions in legal fees, but that is far from the worst part…Because of the delay, it has cost We Energies $200,000 each day in fines, that is $1 million per week while the construction company sat idle.

It is bogus to say that We Energies is paying this fine, it is of course the consumers that live in South Eastern Wisconsin that get stuck with the bill, compliments of a group of fools and a Madison Judge.

Barrows, Wiley & the UW shuffle

Tuesday, June 28th, 2005

The Paul Barrows story took another interesting turn today. We have been hearing from the UW Chancellor John Wiley about Barrows having a medical excuse for his 7 month fully paid leave…Well it turns out that he didn’t have a doctors excuse.

It seems that a few days after this story broke… Wiley asked him to have his doctor send a letter approving the sick leave retroactively. Barrows doctor wrote a draft of the letter, but refused to sign it.

“Barrows said Wiley called his doctor directly on Monday, asking for a signature on the letter. Barrows said the doctor refused.

It seems that Wiley was afraid that the affair Barrows had with a student would come back on them and Wiley encouraged him to take the time off and find a new job.

It is clear to me that both Barrows AND Wiley need to go, Wiley has been running a cover-up since this story broke, he has lied to state legislators and the public… Get Out!
