Gee, thanks Mayor Barrett

Milwaukee Mayor Barrett is asking Governor Jim Doyle to exempt city government from paying the state gas tax. Screw the citizens that are trying to get the tax eased so We The People can get a little relief!

Time limit on roadside memorials gets OK

by @ 1:57 pm. Filed under Home

I support this, the movement to put a time limit on those “road side memorials” cleared another hurdle, if approved, they will have to be removed two weeks after the incident.

I discussed this a few weeks ago in this post.

JS Online: Time limit on roadside memorials gets OK
Makeshift street-side memorials to people killed in homicides and other tragedies would have to come down after two weeks under an ordinance approved by the city of Milwaukee’s Public Works Committee this morning.

The committee voted 4-1, with Ald. Terry Witkowski in opposition, for sanitation crews to tag the memorials and take them down after 14 days. The ordinance now goes to the full Common Council for a vote on Oct. 18.

Ald. Michael McGee, who sponsored the ordinance but with a 30-day limit, said the memorials have become increasingly popular in his and other districts, sometimes drawing crowds that cause trouble at night.

The committee rejected 4-1 an amendment proposed by Witkowski to ban the memorials altogether.

Nice to have the Democrats campaigning for us

by @ 12:14 pm. Filed under Home

I laughed out loud when I heard this yesterday. Racine County Exec. McReynolds is considering a run for the seat being vacated by Cathy Step. A Democrat challenger, Rep. John Lehman had this to say about McReynolds:

“He has the philosophy of small government, watching taxes. And the question is if that philosophy will best serve Racine County when it comes to creating jobs.”

I would like to thank Mr. Lehman for drawing the line. Do you want a small government tax hawk or a liberal that thinks these are bad things.

RealDebateWisconsin: You heard it here first. 21st dist politics.
State Rep Lehman is already slinging mud at McReynolds, claiming “He has the philosophy of small government, watching taxes. And the question is if that philosophy will best serve Racine County when it comes to creating jobs.”

UPDATE: It’s Official

It’s official, Bill McReynolds has announced that he is running for the 21st District seat!

Brian Fraley interviews Bill McReynolds about an hour after he announced.

Another Talkstar competitor on the air

by @ 12:12 pm. Filed under Home

Thanks to Wendy from Boots & Sabers for the heads-up. Local politico Brian Fraley from The Markesan Group will be sitting in for Mark Belling today. Brian was a contestant in the WISN Talkstar competition that ended in a highly questionable internet vote.

Brian did a great job at the time and had it not been for the questionable voting, I believe he had a real chance to win the whole thing. Brian will be the second person that was defeated by Talkstar winner Nichole Devin to be on the air before Nichole even starts. Devin’s show begins this coming Monday, you can read the press release in the comments of this post. She will be doing the show with another former Talkstar contestant Pat Crowley.

Boots & Sabers - The blogging will continue until morale improves…
Political dude and Milwaukee Talk Star contestant Brian Fraley will be filling in for Mark Belling this afternoon. Check him out on WISN from 3-6pm.

UPDATE: Audio
I have added audio of Brian talking with Bill McReynolds about an hour after he declared that he was indeed running for the Kathy Step seat. Audio is posted here.

Breaking News
Just reported, there will be no charges filed against the Bucks player accused of fondling and slapping a woman a few days ago.

HOLD THE PRESSES!

Now it sounds like this report may be bogus… Stand by for details.

As of 1 p.m. the report is the District Attorneys office has not made a final decision on charges in this case. The reports on this that I have posted about come from WTMJ Radio.
