Mark Reardon

by @ 7:22 pm. Filed under Home

Earlier today, I made this post in which I expressed my support for County Executives Scott Walker (Milwaukee) and Bill McReynolds (Racine) who voiced opposition to spending $3.25 million more for a new video board display, believing that this is a poor way to spend taxpayer dollars.

To that post, I added that WTMJ’s Mark Reardon was going to speak in support if this taxpayer expenditure. Now I am going to deal with Reardon’s conversation. I admitted that Reardon has always rubbed me wrong, he didn’t fail at that again today. Reardon sounded like a Democrat today. His arguments were on the order of, we are paying the tax anyway, so let’s spend it. He was rude and loud to everyone that disagreed with his opinion, asked questions without giving theopportunity to answer and ridiculed everyone that believed that this wasn’t a wise way to spend tax dollars. We were told that we were stupid and he made fun of callers (taxpayers paying for this). He also said that this is so small that it shouldn’t be a serious issue, and we are wrong to question it’s use in this manor. He also said that some of us have been brain washed… Of all the stupid arguments, this one is at the top.

When one caller told him he was talking like a Democrat, Reardon blew up, saying that this was a ridiculous assertion. He then went on  asking questions without allowing answers before cutting him off.

His claim is that since this is a tax we are already paying, then we should spend it on this. And if someone had the audacity to ask if this is the best way to spend this $3 million, Reardon shouted them down.

At one point, he started whining and said "After hearing the amount of people I have heard today, complaining about this, I almost forget we even have this stadium here, that we even have a team, I think the community would have been much better off without this staduim," then went on to talk about how shortsighted we in Milwaukee are, just ridiculous.

He then went on to say that one of the reasons he is supporting this is because us whiners and cry babies keep crying about the stadium tax when there are other taxes that are worse. While I agree with this, does that mean that we are only allowed to oppose wasteful tax spending that he tells us is allowed?

I have listened to the last of this loud rude fool.

We are not the most important thing on this planet…

-Nichole Devin WISN radio

Update

Now that I have a few minutes, I want to clarify the reason I posted this as  I was leaving home this morning. The topic being discussed was the Navy’s use of active sonar and the claim (unsubstantiated) by some that the active sonar used by submarines kills whales and dolphins. Nichole kept talking about how arrogant it was that we (humans) believe that we are the most important thing on the planet.

Just as I was walking out the door, a caller asked the question that I wanted to ask. "Why is it that the people that think that killing animals is wrong are the same ones that have no problems killing unborn babies." This was answered, as usual, by silence

We do NOT need to supply the Brewers with more video boards

UPDATE BELOW

Very Good! The Taxpayers should not pay for additional video screens!

JS Online: 2 county execs bash stadium video plan

The county executives of Milwaukee and Racine counties said Thursday that taxpayers shouldn’t have to help pay for a proposed $3.25 million video-board display inside Miller Park.

The Milwaukee Brewers say their proposal is a legitimate request that will make Miller Park a more exciting place to watch baseball next season.

The electronic video boards are already fixtures in many arenas and stadiums around the country and have proved to be money-makers for professional sports teams. The Brewers’ plan calls for the boards to be affixed to the fascia of the club level from the .300 Club in left field to the right-field foul pole in time for opening day 2006.

Check the whole article for comments from Scott Walker and Bill McReynolds. If any of the Stadium District Board members appointed by these two go against their boss, they better be drop kicked hard! No comments from the representatives are available yet… We will be watching!

UPDATE: Mark Reardon to discuss this
Just a heads up, it sounds like Mark Reardon, sitting in for Jeff Wagner on WTMJ will be discussing this issue. It sounds like he may be defending this waste of tax dollars. There is just something about this guy [Reardon] that rubs me wrong, if he goes the way I think he will on this issue, he may push me off the edge! Glad I have a new audio book loaded onto my mp3 player, I may need it!

Wisconsin’s own Travelgate

by @ 5:59 am. Filed under Home

They had to be dragged to it kicking and screaming 6 weeks after the story broke, but now that the paper is finally on the job, even their editorial lapdogs think this stinks.

JS Online: Editorial: Wisconsin’s own Travelgate?

As a candidate for governor, U.S. Rep. Mark Green (R-Wis.) may have a political motive for criticizing Gov. Jim Doyle, but on one point he’s exactly right: Doyle’s political connection to a businessman awarded a state contract has "cast a cloud on state government."

Rebidding the contract is the least of the steps that should be taken toward removing that cloud. Equally necessary is the joint federal, state and local investigation announced Thursday by U.S. Attorney Steven Biskupic.

If wrongdoing is found, those responsible should be held accountable.

The paper goes on to call for a re-bid of the entire contract… Better late than never, I guess.
