McKinney is a disgrace (Update Below)
Friday, March 31st, 2006I didn’t mention it the other day when it happened, but I’m sure you heard about Representative Cynthia McKinney’s incident where she punched a police officer that had stopped her from entering the building.
Members of Congress wear a special pin and it allows them to bypass the security checkpoint. A few days ago, McKinney walked past the checkpoint and was not rearing her pin, an officer tried to stop her, she ignored his request to stop and when he grabbed her arm, she punched him.
Apparently she believes that the officers are supposed to recognize here, news reports say many do, as she regularly does not wear her security pin. But since there are 535 members of Congress, is it realistic that each officer would recognize every member?
The reason I bring this up today is McKinney is now playing the race card and going on the attack. Her lawyer now says:
“Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, like thousands of average Americans across this country, is, too, a victim of the excessive use of force by law enforcement officials because of how she looks and the color of her skin.”
“Ms. McKinney is just a victim of being in Congress while black,” Myart said. “Congresswoman McKinney will be exonerated.”
I find it disgusting that this woman who was clearly in the wrong, is accusing this officer, who’s job, is to die to protect her if necessary, of being a racist.
UPDATE: More on McKinney track record
CNN had some interesting info on McKinney’s background. The Congresswomen has been involved in at least 5 incidents since 1993, all about her treatment at the entrances of secured buildings. She also once complained that she needed to be approved at the entrance of the White House, by “white people”.
In this incident, she claims that it “was instigated by the inappropriate touching and stopping of me, a female, black, congresswomen.” It didn’t have anything to do with the fact that witnesses say that she refused repeated requests to stop to check her credentials since she wasn’t wearing the pin that would have identified her as someone that was exempt from the security screening.
Perhaps Ms. McKinney needs to look in the mirror to find the core root to her problems.
