CITY WI-FI DEMO COULD COME THIS MONTH
A demonstration area for Milwaukee’s city-wide wireless Internet service could go live later this month, according to a progress report on the initiative on the city’s website.
The demonstration area, centered on the Marquette University area, is bordered by 10th to 47th Streets on the east and west and by Vliet and Canal Streets on the north and south. The network, which consists of rooftop antennas and additional access points to be attached to poles, will initially offer access to a limited number of free accounts distributed for testing purposes. Rooftop antennas are already in place, and the first street-level access point was installed today, on 28th and Wisconsin Ave. The full network is expected to be operational by March 2008.
