Today, I seen a half eaten candy cane laying on the sidewalk, and it was covered with ants. What is strange about that, you ask? It is January 5th in Wisconsin!
It has been so warm, that the insects are becoming active in the middle of winter… I love Global Warming!
My title is only exaggerating a little… But why is the Mexican governments plan to provide the people illegally invading United States territory global positioning satellite (GPS) trackers.
Will we ever get serious about securing our borders?
U.S. Protests Mexican Decision To Give GPS Devices To Illegal Immigrants
Mexico City, Mexico (AHN) - U.S. officials are in an uproar after the Mexican government approved a bill which will issue global positioning satellite (GPS) tracking devices to emigrants crossing into America illegally.
Mexico says it will issue an estimated 200,000 devices in 2007, in an effort to save hundreds of lives as the crossing North grows even deadlier in the hot summer months.
The move is seen as a protest against Washington’s efforts to build a fence along the U.S.-Mexico border to curb the growing problem of “undocumented workers.”
Mexican officials say the crossing, which is usually led by a guide, called a “coyote,” is dangerous and deadly. Often, a coyote will take the payment and simply leave the immigrants stranded in the desert, or even hold them for ransom.
Police Chief Nan Hegerty to retire in November.
I think that this is a good thing for Milwaukee, the current chief has had three years, and has shown that she can not get a handle on violent crime. Milwaukee needs a change, we need, and deserve to have a chief that is willing to aggressively attack crime on the streets. When you have a chief that suspends a police captain for telling his officers that the thugs are not going to win. If you can’t handle thugs being called thugs, you can’t aggressively confront the violence in the streets of Milwaukee.
What Milwaukee needs, is a chief like LAPD Police Chief William J. Bratton, who coincidently was supported by L.A.’s very liberal mayor, for another term. What Mayor Barrett and the Fire & Police Commission need to do it to talk to Bratton and Rudy Giuliani and try to hire away someone from their short list of recommendations. If they stay with a local person for the new chief, there is only one name that means law and order to me, but he was just reelected as Sheriff and I am hopping that he takes on crime as his main issue on a run to become Milwaukee’s next mayor. I am speaking of course of Sheriff David Clarke.
I’ll have more on this as events unfold, but I think that this is the clean start we need around here. We have a new Attorney General, a new District Attorney and will have a new police chief by the end of the year. Now we have to wait and see if these changes will have an effect on crime, but we can’t afford to wait to long, we need change now!
Update: Barrett speaks
Charlie Sykes just spoke to Mayor Tom Barrett, check his website a little later for the audio, as I assume he will post it. If he doesn’t, I will post it later this evening, I missed the first several seconds, but I did get most of Barrett’s comments.
