Judge voids plea agreement so he can slap the wrist of a stalker

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

Two men stalked and terrorized a woman and her son for ten months, sending her over 50 threatening and sexually explicit letters, and included information that made it clear that they were following her during the day. The woman was in so much fear, that she bought a gun and checked under her bed several times a night. “Nighttimes were awful, where I would just sit with my gun by my side,” she said. The threats included giving her the date that they were planning to murder her. They also contacted clients of the woman (she’s a real estate agent) and threatened to burn down their houses if they didn’t fire the woman as their agent.

Once police finally arrested the perpetrators, it turned out to be a 53 year old man and his 52 year old developmentally disabled brother. They reached a plea agreement, David P. Goetsch agreed to serve a 7 year sentence and Thomas J. Goetsch was to serve a year. These are agreements that the men made and plead guilty to receive, but the judge, Judge James Bolgert, threw out the plea agreement and sentenced the men to only a small fraction of what they agreed to. Instead of 7 years, David will serve only 18 months, then probation. And Thomas, instead of a year, will get no jail time at all, only probation.

Know where his happened? Judge James Bolgert is another of the disgraceful judges of Sheboygan County. Do the voters of Sheboygan elect people like this disgrace, Judge Terence Bourke and Judge Timothy Van Akkeren because they want their judges to become the laughing stocks of Wisconsin’s judiciary? You, the voters, are the only ones that can do anything about it.

Looks like the D.A. has decided to go easy on Terry Gaouette, the man that has run the Milwaukee Public Museum into financial disaster.

What a joke.

Coat Tails?

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

Others have “Fisked” Eugene Kane’s latest, Coattail effect could be Taylor made, so I’m not going to go there, I just want to comment on two things that leapt out at me this morning.

It seems that Senator Lena Taylor, who is running for Milwaukee County Executive, is planning to ride some coat tails in her election. First, I have never heard a politician that thinks they are not strong enough to win on their own. Clearly Taylor thinks she needs the help of when she thinks will be a large turnout for people voting for Hillery Clinton or Barack Obama… The problem is, those elections are not held at the same time… They are months apart.

In November 2008, there will likely be an African-American or female candidate for president, which might set the stage locally for a big turnout from minorities and women. Moore received a similar boost when she ran in a presidential election year.

“I’m looking to ride some coattails,” Taylor said, referring to anticipation of the fall presidential race. The county executive race is in spring.

State Supreme Court has another candidate

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

Circuit Judge and former DA Michael Gableman has just announced that he will be challenging the unelected Doyle appointee, Loophole Louie Butler for his State Supreme Court seat. I thin we finally have a candidate that Wisconsin Conservatives can feel comfortable with. He did a short interview with Charlie Sykes this morning and was very impressive. I’m sure Charlie will post the audio later today, we’ll link to it ASAP.

This is going to be a great race with a clear choice between a Liberal and a Conservative!

Gableman gets in court race, insists he’s not partisan

Update: Gableman for Supreme Court is up, check out his video.

MPD “Summer Initiative” results to be released today

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

According to the Journal / Sentinel’s “NewsWatch”

“She will appear at a press conference this afternoon along with other city and law enforcement officials.”

Expect many toothy grins, high-fives, and mutual back-patting. I suspect Mayor Barrett will show up to absorb his share of the love.

Do you think Chief Nan was up late last night manipulating compiling the final tallies?

UPDATE: Hegerty and Barrett declare NSI program a success, Barrett vows to find funds to renew it next summer
