Dipping my toe into the 21st Century

Saturday, October 6th, 2007

I finally got myself an iPod… I have had am mp3 player for a few years, but my old Rio has finally died on me. I’m not a music listener, but I really enjoy listening to audio books while at work, so a player that plays the special .aa audio from Audible.com. As I narrowed my search, I centered on the iPod Nano. So today, I have entered the genuine iPod world.

I went from my 512MB Rio to a 4GB iPod in a much smaller package, and this little thing even plays video with incredible clarity.

Yes, I know some of you have iPods with huge hard drives, but this little bitty thing is just right for me. And at work, I use an adapter that slips into the cassette player and plugs into the headphone jack, so I can listen over the stereo.

It is smaller than a credit card, and not much thicker. It is an all metal case, so it should be pretty rugged. My ears don’t do ear buds, but any headphones will work fine. I downloaded a TV show from iTunes and the video quality is really surprising, even small type on the video screen is very readable.
(BTW, mine is silver)

Another shocking “Watchdog” report from the Journal/Sentinel

Saturday, October 6th, 2007

Hot on the heels of last week’s news of “voluntary” (for now) staff cutbacks at Journal Sentinel, Inc. comes todays feature story about a shocking rise in the cost of Little Debbie products.

I think we all know why this is “big news” in the halls of J/S Plaza. I’m guessing a few less 70’s-era metal desk drawers were slid open this week to reveal a mid-morning newsroom snack. Can an upcoming follow-up on recent reductions in the portion size of Ramen Noodles be far behind?

Might I remind you that this is a paper that often relegates homicides to the netherpages of the Metro Section?
