An interesting post in today’s jsonline.

Louis Vega: Eliminated? Or withdrew his name from candidacy? You decide.

Saturday, October 13th, 2007

In a Journal/Sentinel story published yesterday, Leonard Sobcak, Chair of Milwaukee’s Fire and Police Commission, tells reporter Greg Borowski that Louis Vega, previously a candidate for the job of MPD Chief, has been “eliminated” from the list of finalists.

As reported here at Badger Blogger by former MPD Captain Glenn Frankovis last Thursday, Mr. Vega publicly questioned the integrity of the FPC’s decision to allow additional candidates into the race well beyond the application deadline — and sent a letter to the FPC on Thursday, withdrawing his name from candidacy. In fact, Mr. Vega authored a previous letter to the FPC on September 23, 2007 after first being notified — via e-mail — that a “mystery candidate” had been allowed to apply for the position.

From Mr. Vega’s September 23 letter to the FPC:

“What is the reason this person did not apply for the position in the same timely manner as the rest of us, why the interest all of a sudden? If some other individuals expressed an interest, would you allow them to enter the process at this late stage?

With all due respect, this decision appears to violate the sincerity and integrity of the whole search process. It may also be perceived as highly suspect and a total disregard for a fair and ethical process.”

Was Louis Vega “eliminated” from the process, or did he voluntarily withdraw his name from candidacy? Thanks to Badger Blogger’s Captain Glenn Frankovis, you now have Vegas’ letters to the FPC, reprinted with permission of Mr. Vega. The decision is yours.
