Dan Bice reports that Elizabeth Coggs has repaid Milwaukee taxpayers for her trip to watch the inauguration of President Obama. County’s budget director Steve Kreklow confirms the payment, but does not know if Coggs used her personal, or her campaign dollars to pay for the trip.
My supervisor, Toni Clark, has not made a payment yet; it is Clark’s expenses that were by far the highest, as she spent $644 per night for part of the time in a DC hotel, as opposed to Coggs, who stayed with family in the DC area.
Media outlets around Milwaukee have been trying to talk to Coggs & Clark, but they have been dodging all attempts, and except for the strange statement from Chairman Holloway, he has also avoided all media contact.

Makes sense to me
Coggs & Clark are still dodging the media.

I few years back, there was talk about reducing the size of the county board, making it a part-time job instead of a full-time job, or both. One of the reasons given as to why it should not be changed was that it would be harder for board members to respond to or serve their constituents.
I’m not sure what service (other than spending my tax money and trying to raise my taxes) the county board does to justify a full-time board with the same size.
I do know that these supervisors are not available to answer to their employers.
Will things get better?
Will I stick around after I am eligible to retire?

In any private sector job, you rip them off for 4K and you’re done. I politics it’s a “whooopsie” and you simply pay it back.
what a joke.

Well at least she paid it back and I bet there will be some 2nd thoughts before someone goes on a trip in the future, except for Holloway.

The speed at which they agreed to pay the money back says something about the legality or at least what they fear the legality would be if the D.A. looks into this.

Far from being over, this whole fiasco should raise some questions:
1. Even after repayment, will charges be filed against Coggs & Clark as they should?
2. What else did Coggs & Clark charge to the taxpayers that they haven’t yet been caught with?
3. What have other supervisors have charged things to the taxpayers that hasn’t been caught? Isn’t an audit in order?
4. Why is Halloway upset that the public is now aware of inappropriate expendatures?

If Halloway didn’t want this known to the public, what else is he attempting to keep from the public?

Am I missing something? The check she dropped off is far less than the $4K cost of the trip. Holloway is the biggest problem of all and he’s the leader.

If they didn’t attend the meetings “for the children” like they explained the trips were for. Then they were stealing the money away from the children. This is really bad…
Stealing money from babies, finally some pocket picker community wreckers get caught with the goods.

MvnOn- She paid for her version, in full, with that check.
January 29th, 2009 at 10:13 am
My supervisor, Toni Clark ran up most f that bill by staying in a $644 a night hotel.

Better check and make sure she didn’t pay for it with a County Credit Card.

Walker Surprised by Holloway Letter

As long as the CRIMINAL TROIKA (Liz Coggs, Toni Clark, Lee Holloway) remain in office, I could care less about the problems of their constituents who voted them into office. I wish them peanut butter!! I laud Dan Bice for exposing this criminal behavior and Scott Walker if he tipped Bice off. Holloway should be recalled as Chairman for mocking and criticizing Walker. Clark and Coggs should be recalled and DA Chisholm, if he has the ‘stones’, should criminally charge them. Will there EVER be an elected official from the inner city I can be somewhat proud of and support? I think not.
January 29th, 2009 at 4:28 pm
In other words, Holloway’s making an ass of himself yet again, and Walker is content to let him.
January 29th, 2009 at 10:43 pm
Holloway is not making an ass of himself again.
Holloway has permanent ass written all over himself.
The fact that Lee Holloway is in charge of anything more significant than a “Charity car wash” is ridiculous.
The good people of Milwaukee County and specifically Lee Holloways supervisory district…..CHOSE LEE HOLLOWAY.
They have the right to be stupid. I moved.
January 30th, 2009 at 1:51 pm
So lets get this straight, Coggs and Clark pretend to go to DC for the children, but end up stealing $4000 from the children. Holloway backs Coggs and Clark for stealing money away from the children. By backing Coggs and Clark, he and others may take more away from the children.
So Holloway, Coggs and Clark are actually against the children. Why are stealing money away from the children or for stealing future money away from the children? Can’t the government do something about the government officials that steal from the children.

Anybody hear whether or not Clark repaid the money she owes? I received an e-mail from one source indicating that as of this afternoon she had not yet made payment.
January 30th, 2009 at 10:24 pm
I sure would like to know….. and I hope they both get investigated!
February 2nd, 2009 at 10:59 am
As of this morning (10AM), Toni Clark has not reimbursed the County.
February 2nd, 2009 at 4:04 pm
Payroll deduction of $10 a check, maybe?
Any consequences for their actions - yet?
February 2nd, 2009 at 6:01 pm
She was “entitled”. We “owed” it to her. Maybe she’s waiting for Barack to take care of it.

In the name of the children they stole the money from the children. They learned this from Doyle.
As long as they steal them money and the problems are not solved, they can twist the arms and get the pot refilled.
Where does Clark think the money came from and what was it for. It was for the children and you stole it.
Doyle you stole the money from the children by over taxing the companies and driving them out - with their parents jobs. What about the peoples children who lost their jobs because of you and your arm twisting for the children policies. Now you are going to stimulate us with our own money and create tax burden unproductive jobs? Why did you just keep the productive jobs here in the first place?

I don’t know about you’all, but I wrote my supervisor and he is one of those that signed…
Supervisors want legal review of trip to Washington, D.C.
By Steve Schultze of the Journal Sentinel
Posted: Feb. 3, 2009 2:17 p.m.
Six members of the Milwaukee County Board are asking for legal advice on whether the trips to Washington, D.C., by two other supervisors broke any laws or rules.
The six today released a copy of a letter to county Corporation Counsel William Domina and County Ethics Board Chairman David Carr seeking an opinion on the trips.
Supervisors Elizabeth Coggs and Toni Clark spent nearly $3,800 in county money on a trip to Washington, D.C., last month. Both attended the inauguration of President Barack Obama and also said they met with groups regarding county funding issues.
Coggs and Clark apologized for the trip and agreed to pay back the county. Coggs already reimbursed the county for her $798 in expenses.
Clark said today she would pay back the county from personal rather than campaign funds. Her tab came to $3,017.
The letter asked whether Coggs and Clark broke any aws and also whether the approval process for such trips was adequate. Coggs and Clark got advance approval for the trip from Terrence Cooley, the County Board chief of staff.
Supervisor Lynne De Bruin, one of the six supervisors who signed the letter, said the incident reflected on the leadership of County Board Chairman Lee Holloway. As chairman, Holloway ultimately is responsible for approval of all County Board expenses.
Holloway has defended the trip as appropriate.
Other supervisors signing the letter were Joseph Rice, Paul Cesarz, Mark Borkowski, Joe Sanfelippo and Jim “Luigi” Schmitt.

Proposing and voting to get taxpayers money in the name of the children and/or education to ultimately be taken (pocketed) from the children is about as bad as it gets.
Doyle you have taught them well, but how long can this be kept up?
Stimulus only works if it comes from external sources. It can not work if you take more from the source that you are trying to stimulate. How can anyone be stimulated to spend if you take more and give me back even less as it goes through your even larger unproductive administration. You are wrecking it for us and our children.
We do not need more government and programs, we need the productive businesses and jobs that you chased out of WI and Milwaukee. Stop it.
February 3rd, 2009 at 8:48 pm
We need more mandatory sick leave to attract more industry. I blame Scott Walker.

Toni Clark is Un-American, stealing money from our children, couldn’t wrecking the American economy by stealing from it be considered “Treason”. These people have taken oaths to protect, but instead steal from our children.
