Barry Obama just raised cigarette taxes by 155%! The cigarette tax is one of the most regressive taxes we have, since the majority of smokers are considered among the “Working Poor.” Also, like the gas tax, it is one of those things that hit those that can least afford it the most. Sure, some will say that it will encourage some to stop smoking, but we all that that’s not going to happen, and if it did, it would lower the income generated from this tax, which is said to pay for the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP).
So much for Obama’s promise not to raise taxes on the poor, huh?

Well, it sure is nice that the working poor are going to subsidizing illegal immigrants and people making up to $100,000. That is so nice of the democrats. Even though I make over $50,000, I can now get health care for free. Thanks smokers.

As increased cigarette taxes and smoking prohibtions go into effect, they will decrease the amount of legal smokers, thus reducing the amount of tax dollars that are received.
Any guesses where government will try to make up that loss?

What about the businesses that sell and manufacture the cigarettes. I suspect they will be laying off more workers and moving manufacturing plants overseas.
How is this going to help the children, when their parents have no jobs, no food, no shelter, out in the cold only to have to sign up for SCHIP and wait 13 months for treatment. But of course now their parents don’t have healtcare either.
So Obama is proposing to reduce jobs, build wasteful and corrupt SCHIP (20% efficient), such that children will no longer have food on the table or a nice place to sleep.
It can be shown that Obama’s raising of taxes is actually hurting and stealing the money from children, in the name of the children he is trying to help.
Obama, you must create productivity and jobs, duh. Not government desk jobs to deny claims.

You don’t get the Plan.
The Plan is, government charges ruinously high taxes- but then, IF you behave as government wishes, AND if you’re needy or a member of a favored group (e.g., teacher’s union) then you get some of that money back- perhaps even more than you paid.
Surely, no one expects government measures to halt Globaloney Warming, and promote supposedly “green” energy projects, are not going raise prices for everyone- including those who can least afford to pay more?
But, it doesn’t matter: you’ll pay more, but if you’re politically correct and behave correctly, you’ll get what you paid (and perhaps some more) back.

I do understand that they are only 20% efficient/effective.
Basically if we put $10,000 it goes throught the greedy corrupt inefficient system first, outputing 2,000 of effective work.
So the stimulus proposes that we gets a check for 1000, but we effectively put in 5,000 to gets a check for 1000. Stimulus is a bad deal by any standards.
5,000 in pocket or bunch of administrators deciding how much to give back to stimulate you.
Nothing is for free, voting for free check is stealing from children, reducing jobs, reducing Social Security, reducing medicare, and wrecking education for our future children.

I don’t smoke so this tax increase doesn’t directly affect me. However, I have a suggestion: Delay the census for a few years, using this money toward truly URGENT needs of children of citizens, not illegals. I’m sure this would be a simple way of funding these needs WITHOUT RAISING ANY TAXES.
February 5th, 2009 at 9:41 am
Actually it does affect you, by creating less jobs and reducing tax revenue from that particular industry, there will be an even greater social need. They taxes and money the workers made and spent in America will be gone.
Sort of like when Doyle chased GM out, there will be about 5 billion less dollars spent in WI. Property taxes and income taxes will be raised to compensate and more businesses will be chased out.
You, what ever is left of the working middle class will have to end up paying for all of this. Nothing is for free and voting to take your neighbor profits will affect your profits proportionately.

Delaying the Census is not only foolish, but DIRECTLY VIOLATES Article I, Section 3 of the United States Constitution.
This count and subsequent reapportionment is critical to this country’s future. It will shift electoral votes and Congressional seats:
+4 Texas
+2 Arizona
+1 Florida
+1 Georgia
+1 Nevada
+1 Oregon
+1 South Carolina
+1 Utah
-2 Ohio
-2 New York
-1 Michigan
-1 Illinois
-1 Lousiana
-1 California
-1 Massachusetts (Please let it be Barney Frank’s)
-1 Minnesota
-1 Missouri
-1 Pennsylvania

We could just use your figures above for reapportionment and skip the counting saving taxpayer dollars. That would be a simple way to count heads without spending millions of $s.

The census is a legitimate, Constitutional duty of the federal government.
“Free” “children’s” “health insurance” isn’t.
February 5th, 2009 at 12:04 pm
No, the Supreme Court has ruled that only an actual head count can be used to apportion Congressional seats.
It is appalling you are allowed to vote.
As HeatherRadish said — free children’s health insurance is not a Constitutional guarantee.

We voted and funded social security as well as medicare. The corrupt and inefficient government created loopholes to steal the money. The more money spent the more they can steal, treasonous I say.
Now they are figuring out how steal even more and eliminate more jobs for the children in the name of the children.
I thought they liked the illegal immigrants, now there will be less tobacco to pick. Where are they going to go now.
Indirectly Obama is stealing from our children in the name of the children.

But Patrick…this is the new form of tough love from our lib friends. Cigarettes kill…so make them so expensive that people will stop buying them. Up next: Gas-burning cars are killing us slowly…so make gas so expensive that people will move to smaller cars or public transit. After that: Guns kill people…make the ammunition so expensive that people won’t buy those evil guns.
February 5th, 2009 at 5:47 pm
…and use the taxes for free birth control, because all those people who aren’t being killed by tobacco, cars, and guns are a drain on the economy.
It’s all starting to make sense to me now! Send help!

I have more bad news for you B-bloggers.
We all know what ACORN “is” and does….(I think).
ACORN is a LIBTARD attempt to get as many LIBTARDS..living, dead, eligible or ineligible to vote as LIBTARDS DO.
Well here is the bad news friends.
The CENSUS is now a POLITICAL WEAPON and it’s in the hands of LIBTARDS and is being funded by LIBTARDS.
Let’s review.
The CENSUS is BY THE LIBTARDS, OF THE LIBTARDS and FOR THE LIBTARDS.
Your garden variety normal day to day friend, has no clue as to the MACHINATIONS of LIBTARD POLITICS.
I’ll give a quick example of what CENSUS’ can be used to do….
MPS. If we give I-PODS for free to KIDS to get them to SHOW UP FOR BREAKFAST at SCHOOL……
We have created a CENSUS TRACT that we can use for our LIBTARD purposes.
The kids don’t NEED the breakfast, but LIBTARDS NEED (WANT) THE TAXES. So an incentive is created to bribe the kids to come for the breakfast that they don’t NEED, in order to create a phony CENSUS scenario and DISHONEST NUMBER of NOT-NEEDY kids in order to satisfy the legislative qualifications for further rape of the taxpayer.
It’s called WORKING THE SYSTEM.
Libs create the system with the aquiesence of RINO’s, knowing full well that the sytemt they’ve SUCKERED the RINO’s into “bipartisaning” is going to be worked.
I’m bloviating, but someday, most of you will understand that I’ve always been ahead of the curve. I am now.
