Congratulations to our progressive comrades. You have been granted your party’s ultimate unspoken wish. Newsweek makes it official: We Are All Socialists Now.

Now that the genie is out of the bottle, Newsweek makes it clear who rubbed the lamp:
Why, of course: George W. Bush.

“We remain a center-right nation in many ways—particularly culturally, and our instinct, once the crisis passes, will be to try to revert to a more free-market style of capitalism—but it was, again, under a conservative GOP administration that we enacted the largest expansion of the welfare state in 30 years: prescription drugs for the elderly. People on the right and the left want government to invest in alternative energies in order to break our addiction to foreign oil. And it is unlikely that even the reddest of states will decline federal money for infrastructural improvements.

The architect of this new era of big government? History has a sense of humor, for the man who laid the foundations for the world Obama now rules is George W. Bush, who moved to bail out the financial sector last autumn with $700 billion.”

GWB and his Republican cronies pushed the snowball down the hill, Obamalosi-Reid are just chasing after it, watching it grow. Interesting theory, and regrettably, one I can’t disagree with.

The Newsweek brain trust offers a tentative, simple solution:

“The answer may indeed be more government. In the short run, since neither consumers nor business is likely to do it, the government will have to stimulate the economy. And in the long run, an aging population and global warming and higher energy costs will demand more government taxing and spending.”

No denying it, folks, I’m pretty sure they’re right on this one. The answer to what ails us is bigger government. Bigger, heavier and more all-consuming than ever before, “new and improved” with additional layers of faceless, accountability-free bureaucracy. We’ll be happily taxing and spending our problems away… driven by global warming, and our insatiable desire for Lipitor.

We should all be doing cartwheels, right?

  1. John Smith Says:

As we are threatened with fat stimulus packages, businesses prepare by cutting jobs (est: 20% average) forcing workers to do more for less.

As even more tax burden (jobless) and tax revenue (no one has money to spend) is lost, all they can think of is attacking more businesses to take the profits for funding?

When are they going to wake up? The economy is not down, businesses are cutting the fat, for the government is attacking their profits. It is the government that can not survive if all are jobless. I sense a downward spiral, don’t get too comfortable in your cushy desk job and start planting a garden, I hear the cheese isn’t very good and the corn is now used for ethanol.

  2. gus Says:

Johm Smith…Libtards don’t care nor do they understand what makes the economy go. In fact most libtards have disdain for the private economy. Their existance is made comfortable by their Mommy, the Government. Regardless of which party is in power, most government is run by career libtards. Liberals will milk the economy until it is dry. Then they’ll sit stunned that taxing and spending didn’t help the economy.

  3. John Smith Says:

Yes Gus, there is no stopping it now. I would start planting a garden and maybe some barbwire fence, for when they find out they paid ten fold for the free checks, they are going to be hungry and a knocking on your door.

Have you noticed they are proposing even more predatory loans? Basically I think you get 15k up front, first year, then when you can’t make the payments next year they take the house away and everyone is sad and broke.

Reality - they get to live for free, for a year, all on your tax dollars that could have helped the children. 15k = Cable tv, cell phones for all, big screen tv’s, high speed internet, steaks… All will be gone next year.

  4. gus Says:

It’s not that nefarious. They are misguided and above all stupid.
The ones that understand are not going to be harmed.
Do you think Bawney Fwank will ever have to pay for this?
    Pelosi?
    THe Pharoah Obama?
Nope normal middle class Americans like us will be screwed and the poor will be just as dysfunctinoal and pissed off.

  5. Martin Says:

“We”? I take it the Editor had a mouse in his pocket when he came up with that cover headline.

Or he might be referring to the getting-smaller-every-day readership that Newsweek actually has.

Unfortunately, The only “We” I see in the equation is the hellride that the rest of us will go through before more people wake up to the Democrat’s quest for eternal power and glory and shut it down. I have no doubt it will get shut down! The Dems are going full bore and just about anything that they will trip on the one landmine of an issue that will wake everyone up to realizing that they’ve been duped.

Be it an issue like HR 45(National Gun Registration) or an attempt to silence talk radio with the “Fairness” Doctrine, the loss of secret ballots(Card Check) or realize that their taxes are doing nothing more that buying continued votes from deadbeats. I am confident the Dems will trip and do something that will P.O. the most loyal Democrat and wake up the average MSNBC viewer into realizing that he/she has been fed a steady diet of BullS*** for all these years.

When it does happen, it will be fun to watch!

  6. John Smith Says:

In anycase, if you’ve surrounded yourself with good neighbors and relatives, participated in education and community, the hard times won’t be so hard. Real neighbors do care and actually help each other.

If you’ve voted to take the money from your neighbors, stolen from your neighbors, lined up to steal from flood victims, steal money ment for your neighbors children, dumped on your relatives, general not participating in community or education, the hard times will become harder. The government can not stop ya, therefore they can not help ya, no matter how much money the bleeding hearts throw at ya. Your neighbors and relatives may also no longer help.

  7. gus Says:

John Smith, you don’t understand. Unless we let Nancy Pelosi and David “Nice Beard David” Obey spend our children and grandchildrens money, we’re going to have the first HOPE and CHANGE…………….CATASTROPHE in history!!!

  8. John Smith Says:

We are in for some very bad times, maybe even civil war as we let others to continue to infringe on our freedom. Start preparing yourself, noting that as they print more money it becomes worth less. There is no-longer any gold backing this paper, its just paper.

What can you do? What will you do when government takes your job and house away? If you really never cared, who will most likely choose to pillage, murder and steal from their neighbors?

  9. MjM Says:

    “We Are All Socialists Now.”

This is what is known as “projection”.

The socialist tendencies of the US Gov is nothing new. It’s built into the Constitution, “general welfare” and all that. The snowball has been rolling, growing since the beginning.

However, any barricades against a full-blown socialist state were torn asunder with The New Deal and the implementation of Social Security. At that point the slope on which the snowball rolled steepened greatly.

Seeing the glee with which the people accepted this new-found appeasement and pseudo security, pols found the Golden Key to position and power preservation; I give you, you give me vote.

    And so it goes. Sadly.

All of which does not mean we should give up and lay down. The irony is, the best chance to turn back will come with the collapse of SS, when the grand Socialist promise fails. This new spending bill, pols ignorant of the fact, hastens the arrival.

In the mean time, do not give up the good fight.

No, we are NOT all socialist.

    I can’t let this pass….

“People on the right and the left want government to invest in alternative energies in order to break our addiction to foreign oil.”

    More projection.

Yes, we on the right have no fear of alt-energy but in no way do we want it subsidized by G’vment (see: the ethanol scam). We on the right want a balanced energy policy: alt-energy, nuclear, complete development of our own natural resources (coal, oil, gas). The left wants to kill all logical sources and demands that we rely solely on expensive and highly fluctuate sources (wind, solar).

  10. John Smith Says:

There is a clear difference between people that can’t and people that can. Sadly the social liberals have lumped everyone into the can’t group.

Social Security was for people that can’t. Liberals gave it to people that can, but choose not too. Wrecking it for people/children that really can’t fend for themselves.

Not fair to Social Security - to the people that can’t or the children. The liberals are stealing from the children, poor, and elderly, the very people they claim to be fighting for? Why don’t they put the 838 billion into bailing out social security and simply expect the people that can do something, do it. This might be the stimulus that is really necessary.

  11. MjM Says:

Yes. SS was the harbinger of institutionalized welfare. Beyond it’s growth as a welfare system, it soon became America’s de facto retirement plan and is, I suggest, a major cause of the decline of personal savings.

The expansion of SS benefits and qualified beneficiaries was my point.

    >>>Why don’t they…

Because power and control are paramount.

The same reason The Obamamites are now making a Chavez-like grab on the census.

  12. John Smith Says:

No, the opposite, people didn’t and still don’t save. Your going to have to find a spot for them when they/we can no-longer fend for themselves/ourselves. Maybe the empty military bases and freeze dried food. Although not very nice places, and they shouldn’t have to be, there should be someplace to go.

However, being rewarded for reproducing babies like rabbits and pretending to not know who the many fathers are is the final string. There should be no reward, in fact they should lose some of their freedoms for burdening the community with their selfinflicted problems.

How about loaning them money instead of giving them money? How about requiring them to identify the dad/dady’s?

Instead Obama proposes 80 billion to throw at them , to be flushed down their toilets.

  13. gus Says:

I had a client who took exception to George Bush trying to (as he called it) “Privatize” Social Security. My client is a nice man, but not real bright. He said “look at the stock market, it’s down 40%, people would have lost alot of what they had if Bush got his way”
I asked him how much of his SS payments the government was holding for him.
He hemmed and hawed and stammered, until I pointed out that 40% is better than zero.
When the government loses ALL of what you’ve paid in, it doesn’t phase the common moron. They just figure the government can get more for them.
This is the same reason why urban losers don’t care about waste and corruption. They still eat.

  14. John Smith Says:

You can try and privitize, but they will get you with the net worth tax they are now proposing. Add up all the money the bad guys saved for their retirement and make them write a check.

Hey you voted for change and free stuff, now they have to get the money from you to pay for it. Sorry about your job though, good luck at second harvest, they seem to have miss-placed the food and donated money you gave for the children.

  15. MjM Says:

    >>No, the opposite, people didn’t and still don’t save.

Beg to differ. My father, born during the height of the Great Depression, is a penny pincher to the Nth degree, as were his parents (farmers). As were my mother and her parents (dairy producers). I had a bank passbook by the time I was five.

“Saving”, you see, isn’t just about dropping spare change into the jar every now and then. Those people lived the “penny saved, penny earned” philosophy. They had to.

Today we scorn pennies and define poverty as not being able to get digital TV signals.

In 1940, Ida Fuller was first person ever to receive an old-age monthly SS benefit check, $22.54. The event was highly publicized. (The irony is, a hint of the future of SS’s solvency may have been seen in that occasion: In three years of working under SS, she contributed $24.75 into the system. The Ponzi Scam had begun in earnest)

It wasn’t until the mid 40′s/mid 50′s that people began to get lazy, a time that coincides with heavy expansion of SS and the first generation born fully under it’s umbrella.

Over the years I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard those elder than me say, “.. but I’ve got social security”.

To gus: I’d settle for an Opt Out clause, like those folks somewhere in Texas. We’d all be better off, even if just stuffing the money into CDs. Admittedly, at my age, it may be too late to amass enough privately using redirected (to me) FICA taxes, but I’m thinking of my 24-yr old daughter, and as a tail-ender of the Boom, I’ll be S.O.L. anyway.

  16. John Smith Says:

You will no-longer have to save with the Death-Clause in the stimulus package. If you are to OLD they can deny Healthcare in the name of the children. They can now dictate what your private doctor can administer under penalty of great fine or prison.

Basically if you haven’t saved enough to go overseas to get the care you need, you die.

With the net worth tax, they will also take your capability to live with the money you’ve saved, in the name of the children.

    Death to grandparents STIMULUS package…

This reminds me of a made for tv movie, where at the age of 16, they were carted off to a special room to be liquidated.

  17. John Smith Says:

The Death Clause in the Stimulus Package must have came from the made for TV “Logans Run” in the mid 80′s.

When people were to old, they were disintigrated for the good of the whole.

Does anyone remember this? This is where their getting their new heathcare ideas from?

  18. gus Says:

What use has Ted Kennedy had in 47 years in the Senate? I mean besides keeping Scottish Distilleries in business?
